WCHC’s Bama comments above reminded me that Trey Gowdy mentioned us on his show the other night. He was talking about the CFP and who the best teams in the country are. He was talking about Georgia, and said something like, “They were #1 all year and they lost one close game . It’s not like they lost to Holy Cross. They lost to Bama.” Now, he was talking to ND’s Brady Quinn so it’s possible he meant Rudy’s HC in Indiana. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse. As the legend goes, supposedly Alabama reached out to HC in the early '80s for a 2 game home and home series...our home game in Foxboro presumably....not sure who squashed it....BC ended up picking those games up and actually beat Bama twice. We are also 3-0 lifetime versus Georgia

I won't be watching the press conference, mostly because I'm just ready to move on from the FHCBC era (as great as it was), but I'd definitely appreciate if anyone could post any updates as it pertains to HC coaches he plans to bring with him.

I watched much of the presser - as you could expect Ches is very comfortable in such an environment and was impressive - there was a question about the staff and he did not address any names directly except to say 'I didn't get here by myself and many people helped me along the way and they deserve to be rewarded' - reading between the lines, he will be able to offer our assistants a lot more $ so we could expect to lose at least a couple, imo.

You have Kennedy twice, just accidental duplicate or is there another one?
Also, given that list, I really wouldn't be surprised to see him start going after our recruits.

Also kind of imperative we get our hire situated soon, otherwise we're going to cleaned out of coaches by Bob and really struggling to regroup.

We are also 3-0 lifetime versus Georgia There's a joke in here somewhere that [small European kingdom] is 3-0 in major medieval conflicts against [large European kingdom], except when as--constituted back in the thirteenth century, said countries looked nothing like they do now. I'm sure can be said about the HC and Georgia and 'Bama profiles.

There was opining on a JMU board that BC would retain JMU assistants to help recruiting in the Piedmont and NC. That is, in JMU's neck of the woods, HC has not really recruited outside of Metro DC.

I personally see Kennedy, Canan and Grautski. All day long. DiMike would be crucial to try and keep. But I get it.

Doubled that by accident — my Irish Catholic blood gets going sometimes. Also, I can’t imagine him taking any recruits, JMU is a whole other step up

I think Cannon and Grautski are probably sure to go - they are Chesney guys from the beginning. Would Ches risk standing by hiring such a young OC in Kennedy at JMU, regardless of how good he is? Of all the coaches, I really hope DiMichele stays - he bleeds purple (eschewing thought of JMU's colors), is great at recruiting, and mainly, he is HC family. Wouldn't blame any of the coaches for leaving for more money. They have families and/or deserve higher compensation. It would be great if the rest stayed - consistency of winning culture will beget more winning.
Overall, I would like Kit to make the right choice on coach rather than rush into a decision, even if that risks some hits to one recruiting class.

I'd certainly hope he wouldn't try and get kids to decommit or enter the portal though. I am ready to root for App St though, should those things happen.

As good as these 14 verbals are, there’s only one that I see that is a potential top 40 FBS caliber team (JMU) HS level recruit. Plus Bob needs to win right away, not 2 to 3 years from now when these kids are redshirt sophomores/juniors.

The JMU chat site is raving over BC. Not unexpected.
I watched the first half of his presser - when he was making his remarks. It was typical BC. He owned the room.
He also had very nice things to say about VR, KH, and HC in general.
A class act.

If you were a Holy Cross assistant coach and were offered a job by Bob Chesney at JMU, would you risk staying at HC and being jettisoned by the new Holy Cross head coach?

No, but I don't think anyone's suggesting they should. Just that we should be doing anything we can to retain specific individuals. If they leave, they leave, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be making an effort (especially someone like DiMike who the new coach would be wise to keep)

Wouldn't call it a 'rush into a decision' rbut doubtlessly a brisk and thoughtful head coach hire would certainly help with recruting, retention, and staffing issues. (A slow hire would risk unecessary hits on all three categories and not necessarily for just one year)

What's interesting to me, is what made Chesney so successful at HC? Was it his offensive or defensive philosophy, both? His ability to recruit and/or develop talent at HC? His building of a culture?
For me, it's hard to pinpoint exactly. Probably an amalgamation of all these things.
