I would guess Canan, as JMU initially put an emphasis on special teams. He’s been with FHCBC for sometime, and had some great success with the special team effort.

When I kidded Sr. that Bob learned everything he knows from him, his response was, "I have an undergraduate degree in coaching and Bob has a Ph.D." At the last football kickoff, he was having a beer and had a refresher bottle on the bar in front of him. I told him "I was going to buy you a beer but I see you have one and another on deck and wouldn't want to be responsible for what might happen with a third beer." His response: "Tom, I'm from Pennsylvania, that'd be no problem. They don't even hit my sides." I bought him another but had to leave but was happy to see him on the sidelines a couple days later none the worse for wear. Great guy and the proof in the pudding is we have a picture of him with my grandson who really likes him. If he passes muster with my grandson, he's good enough for me. Having met one of my dad's old friends from that neck of the woods; I can readily believe that.

And I had a Classmate who lives in the area who gave me almost a direct quote.
Must be a local expression kind of like Rhode Island’s “I know a guy.” 😊

Hurts to see Bob in JMU attire and pitching NILs. I do wish the best for him and his family. But, it still stings a little.

You don’t want to hear how many Holy Cross coaches he’s bringing with him and when? Or what types of players he’s targeting in the portal? Okay I guess but this still affects us for another few weeks. I wasn’t saying listen for Bob or JMU info but for how it will impact Holy Cross. That should be obvious.

You can have it all at James Madison! Nice Try Troll...You can't get a HC degree at JMU. You cannot be a Crusader. Your jealously is delicious.

The football program will have to settle for 4 activity fees we already paid Note the background- stadium is more impressive than its capacity, which is around 25K.

Since the campus is (by HC standards) pretty much in the middle of nowhere (Washington DC is over 2 hours away and I can’t think of a decent-sized city closer), a modern-ish 25K stadium is probably a good fit for the campus. It can sell out.

I’ve seen the stadium myself and it really does look larger than 25k If they sell out regularly then the demand is greater and they could consider enlarging it in the future - with Ches that’s a real possibility

I'm not about to be critical of JMU, they were good enough to entice BC away from Holy Cross . . . . and they may be more than good enough to take some of our graduate transfers. Let's stay tuned on that front. As an aside. that 17 minute interview with BC was great if I was a JMU fan. What you hear there is what you get when you talk to Bob 1 on 1 or in a crowd. I accused him of being the most optimistic guy I've ever met and I stand by that. He knows how to speak in public and, small crowds and individually. The great communicator among college coaches. I really can't think of another coach at any level that does it as well. He can be a "win one for the Gipper, Knute Rockne" type but he's more than that. He's left but I'm still one of his biggest fans . . . . for a guy young enough to be my son.

And you can't get play in a bowl game, be a Duke, or play in the highest division of College Football instead of playing small time College Football. I don't like how everyone seems to bury Foley at every turn, but this comment did strike a chord with me. Yes, we're playing in the lower division of college football. I myself have said we should pour the resources into Hockey and Basketball, where we have a better chance (for a great number of reasons) to be the "real" national champion, or at least compete at that level, versus bifurcated football. And now football is seeing even further division and chopping-up, and losing amateur status...
With all that said, JMU isn't the highest anything. Big time college football is Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Clemson, Ohio State, Florida State... I would rattle off maybe two dozen or three dozen names before JMU crosses my mind. Nothing against FHCBC, or JMU, their fans, whatever. I don't care about them, and they're not in the national consciousness [yet? maybe...]

Are you suggesting we could invest more in basketball and compete for a national championship??? That's just crazy. Also, I am really sad to see Chesney leave, but this is the perfect next step for him. JMU is showing serious support for their athletic department and the results are showing. They are a top 25 (FBS) program and a top 25 basketball program now. If Chesney wins there over the next couple years, he will again be one of the most sought after head coaches and likely get a top P4 job. It's a brilliant move for him.

In reverse order, nothing against Bob making the move. They have potential. My comment to Foley was that they're not there yet.
And it's not crazy, only you seem to think so. Holy Cross can merely got hot during "3 games in March" and automatically qualify for the same championship tournament that Duke, North Carolina, Oregon, Louisville, Villanova, and everybody else all compete in. There's no second tier (I am seriously discounting NIT and CIT here). And HC doesn't even have to be particularly good to do so. Bucknell won an NCAA tourney game. Lehigh won an NCAA tourney game. That's basketball, particularly neutral site basketball. We're not doing it with this team, but it's far more likely to happen in basketball (or hockey) than it would be for Holy Cross to fly down to Alabama and beat them on their home field. Alabama wouldn't even schedule the game. HC could potentially play the top dogs in basketball or hockey in a meaningful, playoff game. That's my point. A Cinderella run could happen, and the stakes would be the same in basketball or hockey. In football, you're not even in the same sport.

WCHC’s Bama comments above reminded me that Trey Gowdy mentioned us on his show the other night. He was talking about the CFP and who the best teams in the country are. He was talking about Georgia, and said something like, “They were #1 all year and they lost one close game. It’s not like they lost to Holy Cross. They lost to Bama.” Now, he was talking to ND’s Brady Quinn so it’s possible he meant Rudy’s HC in Indiana. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.
