Nice pickup there. By chance, do we have a different recruiter assigned to either state than we did in the past, especially Michigan?
Edit— guess that’s a silly question with the turnover we’ve had in coaching staff with Coach Chesney leaving….

There have been years when the total number of offers approaches 200. There has also been years when a Holy Cross offer is immediately followed by offers from other Patriot League teams.
This suggests, to me at least -- and for the most part -- that the current staff is being very selective and focused on specific recruits rather than throw out offers to a wide spectrum of targets. Of course, even if I am right, there may still come a time when a broader outreach is deemed to be necessary to fill the recruiting goals for this year. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Usually recruiting works like a funnel. The widest target of offers take place early and it becomes more selective as the cycle continues. The close rate early is usually 10% while it can reach 50% towards the final weeks of the second signing period. The current class is suspected to be 15/16 scholarship players which leads us to believe the total offers will be around 65-75.
However, as we know recruiting is fluid. The 15/16 spots are projected as of now. Those could easily go up if a few kids transfer, retire etc after the season and then they have more money and needs to fill from December to February during the second period.

Edit— guess that’s a silly question with the turnover we’ve had in coaching staff with Coach Chesney leaving…. Coach Walsh (safeties) is recruiting IL and MI. Coach Gunnell is still recruiting OH. For coaches with newer territories, this will be a year to build relationships (also thinking Coach Schell in TX). The staff’s traditional stomping ground of New England and the DMV plus BV’s NJ and FL dirt will likely lead this class throughout the cycle. They might target and go grab a kid later from a program with past connectivity to Holy Cross (thinking a Prosper TX type).

OV weekend begins today with ~7players on campus this weekend. A quick recap. 10 players off the board with 2 to HC (Ferrara and Georgs) 7 to FBS - UCONN, East Carolina, Troy, Miami OH, Kent State, Western Michigan, Marshall 1 to FCS - William and Mary New staff but our competition for players looks very similar v. our first wave of offers last few years. IMO, we are trying to lock down at least one top of the board player at each position by July 4 w/ August 1st at the latest.. MASSIVE Weekend on the Hill! **updated to 10 players off the board. I forgot Gardner to Marshall initially. July 1 update - This is a massive week ahead with commitments across the national landscape. First week of July always is. Then will be the sprint to August 1st to lock down top of the board players at each position. 23 players have now committed from our 44 public offers with HC winning 5. (Ferrara, Georgs, Sorrentino, Redfern and one still unknown). This is an ~11% close rate which is line with the ~10% most programs target during the first wave of recruiting. That being said, my guess is our coaches are shooting for a close rate closer to ~15% with their selectivity and fewer offer strategy. Of the 18 Non-HC commits, 15 have gone FBS with only 3 to FCS (W&M, Yale and Richmond). In looking at their offer strategy, it appears like they want to close the following top of board positions by August 1st. QB WR TE OL #2 DE CB RB doesn’t look like a major push right now. I expect that by this weekend they will know where they stand w/ their priority players above and adjust accordingly to bring the next group of targeted players to campus in July. Took inventory and did some research on current available prospects by position. Tried to break down most plausible one’s best I could. Here’s what I currently have: QB - Dom Campanile (NJ) RB - Jackson McCarter (VA) WR - Lincoln Fisher (DC) OL - Patrick Enright (NY), Charlie Simeone (MA) DT - Ethan Brown (VA), Tim Taylor (FL) DE - Henry Eber (CT), Mason Smith (PA), James Steel (NJ/DE) CB - Grant Grayton (MD), Gabe Levrone (MD) P/K - Owen Saraceno (VA), Brian Checkley (MD), Cooper Welch (MD) Last OV’s of the summer likely next week so big week to close any that have already visited and / or move onto the next man up.

From the 05 update, does anyone know if Henry Eber, DE, still has mutual interest with us? I thought he was a really good target but it's been such a long time ... His posting style reminds me of Schoonmaker from the incoming class. NE prep star that posts very little about himself and waits a long time to decide. I always feel we've moved on from each other in most of those situations but Schoonmaker was a pleasant surprise to me when he committed and stuck.

I can't answer your question, but I still have him listed as uncommitted.
It appears he also has offers from Elon and Villanova.

IMO his final 3 are likely HC, Nova and Richmond. He has 16 total offers now as he just picked up Elon this week.

The DE prospects / pipeline are very interesting. Eber and Steel are more “combo” type DL similar to Robinson and Couch where they can probably get up to ~265-270 lbs with Grautski after 1-2 years and play both strong side DE (TE side) in a 4-2 or move inside in a 3 man front like Whitley, Kuz and Reichwein all did.
Smith is a true edge rush DE that we really haven’t seen at HC in a long time. Thomas Kiessling was probably the closest type of player but severe injuries unfortunately halted his career after a very promising freshman season in 2019.

x.com/JamarionK3/status/1811361606812483896New name taking OV next week. Jamarion Kolagbodi. CB from Ft. Wayne, IN. 5’11 170. Offers from several good MACs - Ball State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Miami OH and Kent State. Plus Army, Air Force, Illinois State, Lehigh, Cornell and Delaware. Likely need to see him in person (measurables) and interview w/ Curran and Robbat before a formal offer at this point in the cycle since he’s not a local kid and my guess is Coach Walsh (recruits IN) is the only coach that’s met him in person.

That is, is it Steel/Eber vs a true edge like Smith, one slot for a level 1? Re Couch, is there any recent thoughts on whether he'll be inside vs DE? I thought he'd be a DE but it was indicated he'd be moved inside.

Re Question 1: One spot for level 1
Re Couch: my guess he begins as a pure DE but could bulk up his way inside in future years in certain 3 man front schemes with his frame and another 20-30 lbs.

Offer #29 Christopher Climes OG/DT from Elizabeth, PA Offers from: Kent State, ECU, Richmond, Lehigh, Villanova, Bryant, Mercyhurst, JMU, Monmouth, ODU, Colgate, Air Force, Lafayette, Delaware, Bucknell, Columbia, Maine, Yale, probably others x.com/Cclimes66/status/1794509336489681400?t=89agYZzTyI57i6nF5sUkgg&s=19Climes to Buffalo. x.com/Cclimes66/status/1812195990717268188Massive win for Lembo over Chesney. JMU was his final OV and he came back to UB. Over 30 total offers. As I’ve told people off line - we need to definitely watch and respect his ability to recruit and develop. You don’t take Lehigh to a perennial top 10 FCS program like he did in the late 90’s and early 2000’s with only ~50 scholi equivalencies in the “non-scholarship” era w/o some know how. Early and now Climes are damn impressive gets for Buffalo. Two head to head wins over JMU.
