Wilbarrr trotted back to the paddock.🙂 (Looks like I’m the only who gets the reference!) Was one of my favorite shows to watch as a kid on a Ainday night with my parents. Best episode was the baseball game with the Dodgers. Featuring….Leo,who almost played at HC, Durocher. Too bad he got in trouble in High School. Could have add to the interesting history of HC baseball.

I was around for the first run of Mr Ed and I recall that there were kids in my grade school who believed that the horse could actually talk.

So now it seems safe to say there is at least (assuming no non senior movements out) 1 slot remaining for 2024-25. Does anyone know if perhaps there are any D2-D3 big guy prospects that might be candidates to move up (like the Middlebury kid that Sacred Heart got this past year; he was pretty good)?

Unless the staff feels they can find an impact big with two years left, I would save the schollie for a year so they can bring in 2 kids in the fall of 2025. BTW, Joe Octave hasn’t entered the portal yet.

I thought our sleuths figured it out by reading individual's twitter/X accounts, but the actual portal was kind of confidential to the general public

A player like Joe O. might decide to announce on social media when/if he actually signs somewhere.

This should be HCDP's first, second, and third priority.

Unlike Mr. Ed, which was just plain bad, Green Acres was sometimes so bad it was good. Good soliloquy by Jules in the restaurant scene in Pulp Fiction in which Arnold was a prominent part thereof.

Will we be able to differentiate the defections from those who were “allowed” to leave? In the world of the portal nothing surprises me and so much is disappointing. From the current roster, we have five seniors that will not be returning. Of the remaining seven players, the likelihood of losing one or two players to the portal would seem reasonable for any program. But given none of us know anything it is not a good use of time to speculate or post names as possible departures. Time will tell, but with some luck the probability of departures and the reality of the same do not intersect. Unfortunately, these departures are fast becoming the new normal for college sports in the post Covid era.

College basketball has become less user friendly due to the high number of portal transfers. Don't like it. My interest is ebbing. How can one cheer for a bunch of hired guns without any true tie to their school? They want to enter the portal. Then, go. You don't belong at Holy Cross. Get the hell out. Don't let the door hit you from the rear on your way out. I'm sick of the whole damn thing. It's supposed to be college not some damn NBA light.

mm,
We have no idea why the kid wants to leave. Maybe HC isn't a good fit. It happens, both with athletes and non-athletes. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the portal and am not a fan of NIL at all.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about the portal and am not a fan of NIL at all. Of course you are correct. I was merely venting. But, TBT I felt the same way about Stacom & Kelly when they transferred. Go. Get out. You don't belong at HC. The massive number of portal transfers has made rooting for a college team meaningless. I prefer watching the hired guns of the NBA. No illusions. And the quality of play is better, Just one grumpy old man's opinion.

I definitely hear what you're saying, but then I think of kids like Austin Butler and Gerrale Gates and Bo Montgomery, etc. and realize HC still gets a lot of great kids, real student athletes who get what HC is all about.

True, they give me hope. Please understand I'm not making a moral indictment on these folks who leave. They just don't belong at HC. The scale of petal transfers has put the lie to kids playing for their school except for those who stay. I get it. Grumpy Gus.

I got a call fromJoe Nugent today thanking me for my support of HC basketball. I’m sure many teams do this but it’s a nice touch nevertheless. We had a nice chat. I told him I was in Louisville and excited about Max Green coming aboard and Joe had some nice comments on Max.
I got a call last week from Donovan Comestro of HC football but I couldn’t answer and he left a thank you message.
