I've been beating this drum for a while about the CAA getting totally watered down with some skeptical additions in recent years.

Wow. I'll eat my words. Thought this would never happen.
This shows by shedding itself of stupid, draconian self-restrictions name schools will kick the tires.
Hopefully this coincides with an announcement on revised redshirt rules.

I have no other info but find it hard to believe Richmond is doing this alone. Hopefully 1 or 2 more. Just would make sense.

My first question is -- What happens to the New England CAA schools?
I just can't imagine Maine, UNH, and URI (and Bryant, for that matter...although this is probably a better situation for them than the Big South was) are happy with these developments.

Is the AI going by the wayside? I would think it’s at least getting watered down IMO. Spoke to a Richmond football grad recently that said lots of players there are definitely outside whatever the standard deviation marker would be for their AI. We will find out soon enough but perhaps they’re meeting the league in the middle somewhere? Perhaps this could help G’Town as well. |

Richmond chose the PL.
I'm convinced they will not be the only CAA school that ventures over to the PL...

I just can't imagine Maine, UNH, and URI (and Bryant, for that matter...although this is probably a better situation for them than the Big South was) are happy with these developments. I would think the CAA football officially or implicitly breaks into North and South Divisions. I’m also assuming Nova follows Richmond to the PL in 2025. North - Maine, Albany, URI, UNH, Bryant, Stony Brook, Monmouth South - Towson, W&M, Hampton, Campbell, NC A&T, Elon Play each team from your division every year and rotate 2 from opposite division. Be cool if they could swing a Championship game but FCS calendar makes Conf Championship games virtually impossible. |

The Spiders' travel budget will probably be increased - closest eastern Pa schools are about 320 miles from Richmond and on a Friday that's a very long bus ride through congested highways (same for Fordham) - assuming games at Colgate and HC will always be via air.
Is it possible they will have to fly to all league road games (exc GU) ?

It shouldn't be overlooked that Richmond's AD, John Hardt, was the Bucknell AD for nearly 20 years.

And, of course, with the upgrade in membership
What impact will this have on increasing the budget of the football program? 1843?
Staff support for 1843 and 90 Wide?
What other creative offerings can Holy Cross provide, like the brilliance of 90 wide, to support future student-athletes?
How should CAF dollars for football be earmarked to provide new tools to develop players (Technology, Food and Nutrition, etc)
If there are more additions to the conference, like Villanova and W&M, does Georgetown stay?
A very good day for Holy Cross football and the Patriot League.
If we bring the three over that leaves us with 2 OOC games--
If I was the CFO I might require two buy games each year

Great news for PL Football. Boosts membership to 8 teams - which among other things means everybody can end the season with a league game now.
As to another addition - I look to Villanova before W&M because if a school sponsors a sport, most conferences require you to compete in conference if the conference sponsors that sport.
So if W&M is going to come to the PL in football, it needs to pack its bags for all it's other sports too. W&M might be willing to do that given the schools that currently make-up the CAA, but it's a tough choice for them institutionally, although easier if Villanova also comes to the PL for football.
