Happy Memorial Day Weekend all! Mayor Larry Vaughn thinks this might be the best Summah evah! Hope so!
Anyway, this pretty much being the "down time" for HC sports, I'd thought I'd bring this up.
As for 2025 we already have:
8/30 at Northern Illinois 9/6 at UNH 9/20 at Yale 9/27 URI
There will be 7 PL games starting that season. 2025 will also be another 12 game season. (every 5 years we have back to back 12 game seasons due to the calendar). One would assume that our 5th OOC game will be Harvard, but who knows? if it is, it would be a game at Fitton as we are in Allston this Fall.
I'm also curious how the league will determine who is home and away with Richmond starting that season. Lastly, do you think the PL will mandate an annual last season game now that there are 8 team members? I know the Spiders have played W&M for that week but maybe they could shift that game to another week? Geographically I suppose that would be: Richmond-GTown, Lafayette-Lehigh, Fordham-HC and Bucknell-Colgate. Not sure how pumped UR would be with that.

Harvard is interesting. Coach Murphy retiring will eventually allow the new head coach to influence the direction of the Crimson OOC slate. I don't know how far out contracts are signed, how easily breakable they are or how much scheduling influence the AD had with Murphy and if it's different with a rookie coach.
League wide a similar dynamic will unfold. With one fewer OOC game each season, PL teams will become less available and more desirable as opponents. One might think HC benefits by playing Harvard but they might be motivated to keep us on the schedule and concerned we have fewer OOC games now. Of local traditional opponents, BU and Northeastern dropped football and BC and UMass went FBS. They can't just conjure up another century old rivalry.
Somewhat similar with Yale and the rest of the Ivies in their scheduling relationships with PL teams. Current PL teams are now both less available and in a stronger conference.

But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the beaches are open and people are having a wonderful time. Amity, as you know, means "friendship".

Regarding Richmond, another Patriot League football member means another Patriot League football game. While it may not be a 'traditional rival" (whatever that means) it is certainly an upgrade for the Patriot League and losing an OOC game is not necessarily a bad thing.

Assuming we’ll have just one league ‘plane trip’ road game each season I think we’ll be ‘at’ Richmond in 2025 (we’re at GU in ‘24)

One of the local high schools, Monomoy (Harwich and Chatham, where there have been a lot of sightings); has embraced the "Jaws" legend by nicknaming their teams the Sharks.

Mattapoisett, for decades had the only shark attack fatality in New England (1937), until there was one sadly a few years back on the Cape. Jaws has always been big in these parts....also shot on the Vineyard as I'm sure many here know.

Hopefully, their rival teams are the "Jets." Closest thing to that is nearby Dennis Yarmouth- who have (or had 3 or 4 years ago) the classic Jets (Joe Willie, Bill Parcells) unis.....but, ironically, their nickname is the Dolphins.

Have a neighbor who is a huge Jaws fan. He also happens to be going through a procedure to have replacement teeth implanted, just went through having his remaining teeth pulled. Was talking to another neighbor when he pulled up, we both asked him how he was doing. He was telling us not bad, but explaining how he can only eat soft food, etc. He happened to be wearing a Jaws t-shirt....I couldn't help myself and said "kinda ironic with that shirt, huh?"...he had to laugh

Seems like a good time to implement the CHC8485 build a real rivalry plan.
Schedule Colgate as our season end game in football - as was talked about almost 40 years ago when the BC football series was cancelled. With Colgate’s improvement in men’s basketball and our improvement in football (and possibly other sports, time will tell) schedule Colgate as the final (or close to final game) in all sports. Over 5 years there will be some upsets, a win that knocks out a reigning champ, some bad calls, some bad blood, an arrogant competitor that you hate on the other team that you’d love on your team. That will build an increased desire to “beat those guys.” It starts with a couple of sports feeling that way and it will spread to other sports, other sports will have similar experiences and in no time it starts to mean more to the student body, alumni and fans.
Let’s go. Make it happen Kit.

They have had a lot of success over the years. They are a similar size, with a similar student body composition. Could be a wonderful rivalry. Fordham, on the other hand, is only a football rival who is afraid to play us in hoops!

What are you guys talking about?!!! For goodness sakes, we already have a rivalry with BU. Haven't you heard about the "Turnpike Trophy?" I'll bet there must be at least a dozen students and alums from both schools that care about this award.
As for Colgate, not wild about playing the last football game each season when the chances of a snow storm in Hamilton are better than 50% and not a lot better in Worcester. That said, the two schools have played each other in almost all sports for many decades and the size of the schools are a smidgen closer than HC-BU. While I would much prefer Fordham, they would never want to downsize to the PL except for football. But a trip to the Bronx for the last game is preferable to an odyssey to Hamilton.

A football game during a snowstorm has a certain allure to it though.

A football game during a snowstorm has a certain allure to it though. Crosser, having lived in the Syracuse area for 9 long winters where they average 120" of snow a year, I am actually very used to snow and have sat through snow games in Hamilton. The issue, for me anyway, isn't the snow during/at the game, it's the driving through the snow to get to/from there safely. I'm not 40-something anymore.

Fordham and Georgetown are each more easily accessible by plane, train or automobile when you factor in the weather and have the Jesuit connection but they are only Associate PL members so Colgate is a better rivalry.
