St. Joe's in 2008.
A10 was real good then, got 3 or 4 bids. Hawks were not A10 champs.
If I have to guess another one, I'd go w/Providence in 1977. HC beat them to earn the auto bid to the dance, PC went as an at large.

They began that season 15-5 (6-1), but limped to the finish line of the regular season at 18-11. Winning three games in the A10 tournament got them on the right side of the bubble. There's a more recent example than 1977.

That 2008 win over the Hawks occurred on the night when the four HC Jerseys were raised to the Hart ceiling.

That 2008 win over the Hawks occurred on the night when the four HC Jerseys were raised to the Hart ceiling. The 2008 win was during the 08-09 season. The game being referenced was in 07, during the 07-08 season. Believe we received top 25 votes the following week. We began the season 7-1 with the win over St. Joe's, win over a solid Ohio team (Cruze buzzer beater), and two-point loss to another good A10 team Dayton at the DCU. If we played Dayton at the Hart, we win that game.

I'm thinking no, but could it have been one of those 2 wins over UAB (92-93 and 99-00 seasons)?

Well, I wasn’t in Hawaii for sure- apologies I thought I had seen us beat Cincy in Boston . I do recall beating Providence in Boston…… The Cinci game in 1979 (they had Pat Cummings, who played for the Knicks; pre season rated very high, but in the end had a disappointing season) was about as well as I've seen a HC team play. That and the Iona game in 84-85 when a McCaffrey led depleted team blew out the Gaels, who had just beaten someone very good.

While it would likely be a daunting research task to find out, I wonder where our Crusaders would stand, compared to our peers (both in size and in academic standing), re: wins over Division 1 nationally-ranked top-ten teams in the major sports over the past fifty years.
I suspect that our little college on the hill would fare pretty well in such a compilation.

HC beat them to earn the auto bid to the dance, PC went as an at large. if that was the two game set called the ECAC tournament, they were two of the best 3 HC wins I ever saw in person, UConn and two days later PC. The third was beating BC at BC with Hochstein, Siudet, Murray I think, and a good lefty shooting guard Stan? ....ski. a terrific BC team. Best loss ever was a game we lost in the last seconds of OT at Boston Garden with Ron Perry leading a huge comeback and losing on a slow clock last second shot. It was the early period of the first sustained UConn good teams. Great game, heartbreaking loss.

The Colonial Classic, same season, were also two thrillers although not nearly as much was on the line.
Beat PC at the buzzer on a Potter put-back (game was tied at the time). Beat Umass in OT the night before. Umass wasn't as good then but they played well and HC was fortunate to win.
