UMass has scored 25 points in the first 3/4 of their game with Richmond. 46-25 Spiders with 11:00 remaining. BTW, there is a guy on the UMass bench who sure looks like Derek Kellogg.

(short as it has been to date), Or is Kit giving Nelson some time to work the phones and possibly identify a landing spot for himself, wherein it will be announced that he is leaving to pursue another opportunity. No coach gets fired any more. In all of the announcements of coaches being "fired" so far this offseason, (short as it has been to date), the announcements are laced with euphemisms. "Leaving to pursue other opportunities", "Mutually parting", etc. I know the euphemisms fit in some instances but certainly not all.

Here's to playing some mad libs....did Nate Pine leave the template in the drawer for Kit Hughes? Loyal Crusaders, Let us begin by offering our sincere appreciation for your support throughout this difficult year. While no one is satisfied with the results of this past season, we are deeply committed to building a basketball program in which we all can take great pride. As the leaders of this basketball program, Coach Nelson and I take full responsibility for the disappointing performance this year and we will be working very hard this offseason to improve our results for next year. Holy Cross basketball has a rich and storied tradition of success, and with the many recent improvements in a number of critical areas, we believe the future is bright. Coach Nelson, the staff and our student-athletes are committed to putting in the effort and working tirelessly throughout this offseason to produce the results we all so strongly desire. We have never been more determined to move this program forward than we are today. The staff will hit the recruiting trails and transfer portal this week to complete an incoming class of top quality student-athletes to join our ranks on Mount St. James this coming season. After completing a post-season recovery phase, our players will be returning to the weight room with renewed enthusiasm to begin their off-season workout program. We have no doubt that after this last season everyone will be dedicated to the process and will be working with extra motivation to reach our goals. While we are not where we want to be, we have great optimism for the future of our program. With the return of several top players in 2023-24, we can put ourselves in a strong position to compete for the Patriot League title next season. We will also be challenging ourselves with some exciting non-league games, beginning at home against Clark and Conn College and on the road against Binghamton and UMBC. We have heard from many of you, our dedicated fans and alumni, and we appreciate and share your passion for the College and our basketball program. We wish you the very best for a happy Easter. Go 'Saders! EFG72 and Sader1970 don't know what they are missing. Right about now, I am thinking I should have taken the pledge as well.

I would have expected nothing less...unless an announcement was very imminent (and by imminent, I mean Hughes was on the call while walking to the press conference), then perhaps he would have teased something...but it doesn't surprise me that he got generic answers, especially after an earlier promise here to share the contents of the call. I thought the same thing on your latter point although today, you have to assume anything you do or say could appear on Twitter or Facebook or a message board for that matter, in a matter of minutes.

If it's status quo heading into next season, season ticket holders will have a chance to voice their thoughts. The thing is, HC has lost so many season ticket holders over the years, I don't know if it will matter. I would love to know how many season tickets have been sold over the last 10 years on a year by year basis.

I wouldn't expect an AD to divulge much to a former player on a phone call with the possible exception of people named Smith or Luth and even then, he or she might speak vaguely. The AD listened to the feelings of a former player and cataloged them. I don't view it as a waste of time.

Not based on any info or specific coaches, it would just seem much easier to get a coach to move from Keene State to HC than from Swarthmore to HC. I didn't realize how good Keene State basketball was until the last week or so. Nice to see a Central Mass guy doing so well.

According to HoopDirt, Bowling Green fired their coach after 8 years and a 126-125 record. According to Jeff Goodman, Austin Peay has parted ways with their coach after 2 years. Same AD hired and fired him.

Over the last 15 years we are 165 - 262 for a win percentage of 0.386, which includes all non-DI games. That reminds me of the NY Giants 1978 season and the banner that flew behind a plane over Giants Stadium during the final Giants home game of the 1978 season - about 3 weeks after the Joe Pisarcik fumble. Kit Hughes, President Rougeau, Rich Flaherty and Dr. Helen Boucher to paraphrase that banner ... 15 years of Lousy Basketball ... We've Had Enough! Take real action to remedy the situation. You have to do more than change coaches. The timeline shows what happens when the rest of the PL has Scholarships. Without looking it up, I am going to guess Ralph Willard's OOC record at HC was pretty good.

If I were Nelson and knew I was coming back, I would go to KH and get his approval to post a video on the basketball website. In the video I would apologize to the fan base for the lack of success that the program has had over the last few years and, without making excuses, would tell them that I and my staff were more focused than ever in changing that. I would thank Gates for his incredible contribution to the program and say that, with most of the team returning, some big bodies returning from injury, a fine crop of incoming freshmen, and possibly some help from the transfer portal, that I am optimistic that things will turn around next year. I would thank everyone for their patience to date and promise them that they will see the benefit of their patience and support next season. (I think that would go a long way to making a bad situation at least a little better. It would also take some of the heat off KH. No real downside doing this because, if next year is another disaster he’s going to get fired anyway.) Just a suggestion…. I will say that just acknowledging we have been bottom of the barrel bad for 4 years, we know it's unacceptable and committing to working tirelessly to get it turned around would be a good beginning. There is no sugarcoating 27-84. If he is retained and we just move on like there is nothing to see here, that would not be a good look.

Not much chatter on the Bucknell board the last 24 months. Other than fire Nate Davis. If Kosmalski is interested in both HC and Bucknell, Crossporters will seal the deal for the Purple.

Although 162 miles apart, Swarthmore and Bucknell are both in the Keystone State and HC is out of region. The question is does Kosmalski want to be a colleague of Bob Chesney or Dave Cecchini? Not much chatter on the Bucknell board the last 24 hours.

We're overflowing with young local talent. I hope Kit doesn't overpay for an old name. Just because someone has won elsewhere in D-1 (and anyone who HC can afford will have presumably lost a little, too.) doesn't necessarily make them a better fit at Holy Cross than someone who has won in a lower division, imo. HC is a complete turnaround job, a reclamation, even an exhumation 🙂 while I'm on a roll. Beware someone who has won inheriting good players or stepped into an established well run program and kept it going. None of that is available at HC. Look for the coach who has inherited a lump of coal and turned it into a diamond. Based on what I read about him today on the Bucknell, Kosmalski fits that requirement to a T.

I don't think the following is true, but I've sometimes wondered if Crossports is perceived by some as a group of mostly older, cranky, over sensitive, nit-picking alums whose unremitting scrutiny of HC sports is not representative of alums as a whole. I like KH--a lot-- so I don't think he would have this mindset. We’re definitely not representative of alums as a whole because we actually still care about HC sports. Most alums have long since given up on men’s basketball. But we’re hanging in there trying to advocate in some small way for change that will help move the program and the school as a whole forward. Maybe there just aren't enough of us who think a more successful athletic program, done in the right way, promotes Holy Cross.

The Jocam has not worked since late last week. The problem is not the camera, or the feed from the Holy Cross end. The problem is at the company that supplies the webcam feeds to the Internet. They have been alerted. It is back on.

I don't find it plausible at all. There's no way the prior AD added a year to BN's contract and the current AD and TPTB are unaware of it. 0% chance. So what’s the holdup?

If Nelson is going to be let go, I can see no reason why it hasn’t happened by now. Perhaps the title of this thread was prophetic. The drift appears to possibly be when Kit lowered the boom, Coach noted his Covid extension and it was like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, catching Kit and TPTB flat footed. Could FADMB have given the extra year to BN with little fanfare (it was Covid after all, the world stopped for a while) and between transitioning Presidents, ADs, Interim ADs, Board Athletic chairs etc., nobody currently in office picked up on this legally binding amendment? Maybe this weekend everybody is scrambling to find an unsuspecting Peter to rob to pay Paul (Bret) an extra 350K to get this cluster---- done and go on to win the next press conference. Entirely plausible.

I can tell you for a fact: his former players are INCENSED over the double standard. That is literally what I’m trying to communicate. It is the number 1 reason why I was adamant about a swift/prompt dismissal day 1. The opportunity has been blown, the door is now wide open for any and all despicable reasons (or 1 REASON) as to why Brett Nelson is still coaching this team. Holy Cross…you blew it..again. We do have a bit of history in doing that. As someone once said, "We have met the enemy and it is us." Not sure how I will respond to next fall's email about renewing my season tickets.

High Point fired their head men’s bb coach after one year, he was asst there for 4 years prior to being named head man, after the team went 13-17 this year. Coaching Fraternity stages a one day general strike in response. Touchee.
