We have discussed the PL's failings ad nauseam on this board. Let's stop for the time being and just win football games.

This thread bores me. Can we put it to bed and move on to UNH? I don't want to see the "NEW" next to it anymore.

In the late 90's, our JV team also played Tufts and Bentley varsity teams.

As much as I may dislike the PL, I think we should hold off on freaking out until we actually win the league. The PL has an auto-bid. Let's use the PL for that purpose and try to make some deep runs in the playoffs. Until we do that, the rest is not relevant. Win the damn league, and get into the show. Also, schedule as many FBS games as possible. They help with recruiting, money and recognition. Edited to change FCS to FBS. Just error on my part. For clarity, I think it is better for the program to lose to a BC or Navy than win against a Wagner.

PP- Respectfully, Chesney previously was an hc at Div. 2 Assumption. Peter Vaas, God Bless him was a successful HC qb, successful hc at Allegheny, a qb coach at ND and had a losing record at HC and after Holy Cross left coaching to sell insurance. So what's your point? Look, it has been one game, a big loss to a far superior Navy team. Now, let's fire assistants? Do you really believe it was offensive sets or talent & team speed that were the reasons for our loss? Everyone knew that this game was going to be extremely "tough." Why not fire Chesney? Fire Fr.Boroughs as the person ultimately responsible. We finished last year with 4 straight wins. Do the assistants get any credit for those 4 wins or should they nonetheless have been fired? Why not let the season play out and then evaluate. Just sayin'. With respect... LoveHC mm67, I am not interested in firing Chesney. I was simply observing that the coaching backgrounds of the three assistants most responsible for the offense are predominately small school backgrounds, and I am of the view that much of what you learn as a coach is through assimilation from the coaching and competitive environment one finds oneself in during a season. For me, their c.v.'s do not suggest they are big change agents. Mike Sherman hasn't walked through the doors at Luth. At Dartmouth, the background of the three assistants with the same position responsibilities. OC / QB Coach. Played UC Davis as a QB , drafted in fifth round by Titans. Four years of NFL experience. Seven years an assistant at Cal Berkeley. Third year at Dartmouth. (Majored in biology, BTW ). WR coach Played at Dartmouth. 15 years of NFL coaching experience, including five as HC of the Bengals. Played one year in NFL. Second year at Dartmouth. RB coach Played at San Diego. 15 years of prep school coaching experience (NJ/PA) , as head and assistant. Fifth year at Dartmouth. Not impressed by the resumes when you look at the actual people. Shula would not have been an offensive quality control assistant in the league without his last name. HC has a history of great assistant coaches, even in leaner times. Regardless of their resumes, etc. there are two things we can do with respect to assistants to improve the team: 1. Provide for higher pay for future openings; and 2. Immediate create an opening at Offensive Coordinator.

An option offense is not a good indicator of how good your defense can be. Easy to defend on paper, but a different story on the field. UNH will be a better indication of how this year will go.

Not surprised at some of the money being tossed around in these games. VERY surprised at the amount ($1.3 million) that UMass is getting to travel to Rutgers. Shocked that Rutgers would pay that much out. Rumor in CMass was that HC didn't get much for 2018 BC game. Hopefully they renegotiated after the great crowd last year. After bribes and kickbacks to the upstanding politicians in NJ, they are probably only getting about 1/2 that.

Is it possible that some members of the football team follow this site?
3crusader4 comments were inappropriate and hurtful.
Why don't you take it down a couple of notches. These men playing deserve our appreciation for being part of the team and our support for being part of the HC football family. However, they are scholarship athletes playing DI football, and if they cannot handle criticism, they should play better or find another sport. While his comments may be harsh; there is some truth to the notion that Considine may not be as good as anticipated if he cannot beat out Clifford in camp. Based on what we saw last year, Clifford lacks the talent and athletic ability to be a winning quarterback at this level.

Let me make sure I’m understanding thus. Do you think Dom had a better receiver corps than we have had in any season since then? or before?

Monmouth is not a weak program. It is also close to Scott's home. The Hawks have 5 QBs returning in addition to Scott (entering as a sophomore). They include 1 sophisticating, 3 juniors, and a 5th year player. That 5th year player, Kenji Bahar started e very game last year, so it. is doubtful Scott would see much more time at Monmouth than he saw at HC. A plus for him could be that Monouth does not have any frosh coming in at QB behind him. He read the tea leaves and probably figured he was not going to play here. He went back home and his brother is on the team. He has to sit a year in any event. Good luck to him, but not an issue for us.

#6 - QB Marco Siderman. 3* but only see an offer to FAU Helms is announcing today. Could be HC. Would leave one smoke signal to reconcile and make 8 verbals Chesney beat out Kiffin for a recruit. Not too shabby.

He has 2 years of eligibility left. Started 7 games at Tenn Tech before transferring to LSU as a walk on. If true, just more good news for the QB competition. Let the best man win the job.

I welcome Matthew to the family. A hard fought QB competition will only make the winner (whether him, the Frosh or someone already on the roster) better and place the team in a better position to compete for the PL ring.

While all that is true and agree with your point later on in your post that no school is going to unilaterally disarm by reducing basketball coaches' salaries, to me, it is ridiculous and this wasn't just Carmody. (Yes, Carmody makes moer than the current and former football coach) I had been watching and occasionally posting salaries of the Holy Cross football and basketball head coach salaries. While I don't have the numbers in front of me, I pretty clearly recall Kearney and Brown (and, of course, Willard) made a heck of a lot more than Gilmore even after he won or placed multiple years as PL champ and basketball was a "no show." I don't think we've seen Chesney's salaries yet via federal 990 but I guarantee you he isn't making what Carmody makes or even anything close to what Brown or Kearney made. Say what you want about Tom Gilmore, he was noted as the hardest working person atop Mt. St. James - bar none. Chesney, I think, is in that same mold and his salary should be more equitable to someone who manages a team that's many, many times smaller (90 players to no more than 15) and doing it with a much smaller percentage of assistants. Now, if we were winning the PL regularly and beating people in the NCAAs routinely, I'm "all in" for basketball coaches making a lot more. For participating? Not so much. End of rant. Not sure how basket salaries are paid - annually or season. The 990 for Milan Brown's last year showed he was paid 505K in base. Carmody was paid 285 for that partial year? Gilmore did not appear on the top earners in the 990.

Chris Butash is getting on a plane tomorrow... Headed up to HC for the summer. Work outs and meetings... Good News. Maybe he'll have the playbook down by Fall. Obviously, we need to trust the coaches to play the QB that puts us in the best position to win. Based on what I saw last year, it would not surprise me if it was a Freshman. We can discern that you are related to or connected in some way with Chris. In such case, Welcome to the HC FB family.

In days of yore the Boston Globe Sports Section would publish an annual list of MA or perhaps it was Metro Boston only, football recruits and the local colleges they had chosen. Holy Cross got a bunch and Northeastern and BU got their share. NU and BU dropped football but HC only has 7 offers so far this year which means we may only get 2 or 3 players to come, if that? To me MA is fertile recruiting ground that isn't being fully cultivated, but have trends changed and kids want to go away to college to another region now or is MA HS Football less accomplished than PA. and other regions? Or is HC a down brand in it's home region? As an old farmer once told me: "the only thing you can grow in #@*&$~! soil is #@*&$~!."
