Following the talent to places like TX, FL, GA etc. Good sell to smart, talented kids in those states as opposed to Northeast which is crowded, picked over and far less talent rich. We will land our NE kids, but love how we have expanded our geographic reach to areas which produce far more Division 1 football talent than New England states combined.

Think of the College's desire for geographic diversity. One small step for football, one giant leap for Holy Cross.

Certainly true that Texas has a lot of talented HS football players. Also true that NE is a very competitive recruiting. Texas is at least as competitive if not more. The NE however has a much broafer and deeper talent pool. Pa NJ Oh DC Md Del are PL prime areas. As Bear Bryant said, referring to an asst taking Temple job, You can throw a stick up there and hit more good players than I can reach in a 3 hr drive.

NorthEast, sure, but New England alone...not sure about that.

NorthEast, sure, but New England alone...not sure about that. Just New England is a tiny pool of talent comparatively. NE however does include NJ Pa NY DC Del and Md. Entire area within PL local recruiting. A wealth of talent with the resulting stiff competition. We all recruit nationally by necessity for qualified student athletes. Lehigh has focused on Fl Ga and to an increasing degree on the Carolinas northern IL and Mich.

I hope all these recruits who say they are "blessed" to get all these offers understand that if they actually go to Holy Cross they will be "blessed," being a Jesuit, Catholic college and not so much if they go to some Ivy school, the academies, another PL school or a D-IA football program.

Safe to assume offers coming directly after some of these players attended their camp?
|
|
|
Post by breezy on Jun 29, 2017 9:20:29 GMT -5
Not really sure about that. Have seen numerous tweets about players attending camp sessions last week and yesterday -- final camp session is today -- but thus far have not seen any tweets that make a direct connection between attendance at camp and a subsequent offer. But it is possible that there may be a correlation that just is not reflected in the tweets.

some commitments are trickling in for others. Rich at the LFN blog has counted 7 so far for Lehigh. I believe Colgate and Fordham also have 3 or 4 lined up for 2018. I'm not concerned, but certainly would hope we'll have a handful by the end of the summer

Seems Coen altered recruit strategy a bit this year by making so many early offers. More than double last year' s early offers. Schollie recruiting still a learning process for all of us. Coen has tweaked our strategy a bit every year.TG's shotgun approach has resulted in some better athletes and more speed in the last 2 classes. Not sure whether it is the most efficient mode of recruiting tho.
