UMBC beating Vermont definitely helps Bucknell's seeding. I think they're on the fringe of a 13.

The IVY League got it right with this 4-team single-site tournament, with both semifinals televised on ESPN2.

The Bison’s good fortune continues Probably, although Marshall could conceivably get a better seed than BU. Their RPI will be about 10 places worse than Bucknell's 77 - but they do have three good wins by NCAA standards: two over Middle Tennessee (34 RPI) and the one tonight over Western Kentucky (35 RPI before tonight). With Ball State - who was in the top 100 - losing their last four games, Bucknell now only has one top 100 win - vs Vermont (now #51).

Davidson beats URI With far less talent( and far more stringent admission standards), McKillop outcoaches Hurley for the second time this season

Davidson beats URI With far less talent( and far more stringent admission standards), McKillop outcoaches Hurley for the second time this season McKillop is a good coach but that is not the reason his team beat Rhody twice in ten days. URI shot poorly from the free throw line in both games. Today in a one point loss they went 9-17 while Davidson was 14-16. In the game two fridays ago down at Davidson, URI missed the front end of three straight one and ones in the last 40 seconds (was a 2 pt win as Davidson made last second layup and one). Rhode Island had been a decent ft shooting team most of the year. Rhody had easily handled Davidson by thirteen in the first meeting.

Sure statistics are relevant, but when both games were close at the end, the Davidson defense, as well as their execution on offense showed McKillop’s superiority. If URI’’s talent had prevailed, neither game would have been close at the end. McKillop is a very good, not just a good coach.

So Hurley's Rhode Island defense which held Davidson without a field goal for nearly 13 minutes in the latter part of the second half was not good? Do you also attribute that span to McKillop's great coaching?

A.J. Brodeur looking awfully good for Penn . . . And another Northfield Mount Hermon kid, Kellan Grady, doing the same for Davidson. Both Brodeur and Grady will likely be conference PoYs before they're done. Wish we could compete for players from NMH.

Sure URI’s defense was good in those 13 minutes, but the game is for 40, and Davidson was better at both ends for most of those 40, especially the last few, when it most counted.

The two wins Mckillop's Davidson team recently had were the only wins in the last six games vs URI over the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons. As I indicated, if Rhody had just shot 70% from the line in those games, they would be an undefeated 6-0 versus McKillop and Davidson. McKillop is a very good coach. He helped put his team in position to win two games provided the opponent stumbled. Both victories were the result of URI making mistakes (poor ft shooting) rather than McKillop winning because of some brilliant coaching.
And by the way, the talent disparity may not have been as great as you think. RI is deeper and has more overall team talent. Both teams however had the same number of players on the all conference teams and it was Davidson, not URI, that had the A-10's co-player of the year (Aldridge) and rookie of the year (Grady).
If Davidson had only taken care of business in the OOC schedule instead of going a dismal 5-6, winning today would not have their only path to the NCAA. McKillop's great coaching somehow did not come through with wins versus less talented RPI 200+ teams such as Appalachian State and Hawaii.

Like most of his teams, McKillop’s teams progress during the season. URI did not get better. Davidson won the tourney, URI did not. They beat URI TWICE in 10 days. By using a few isolated players, you make it seem as if the teams have comparable talent. They do not. Teams make mistakes at the end because they do not handle the pressure as well as those who do not make those errors. Coaching has a great deal to do with that. One coach’s calmness vs another’s frantic behavior may be a factor.
