Well the letter just came out from OOP changing the Mascot and Moniker--guess I need to hit the bookstore online and order the articles I want before they are taken off the shelves.

“Nobility, chivalry, bravery” out the window after nearly 100 years........still a cave in to political correctness........disappointing to say the least.

What a joke. It would be tough to have a weaker President than we have right now.
We need a “Holy Cross guy” (or gal) running the school.
And that HC “shield” logo they are replacing the knight with is awful.

Surprised we can keep the poor guy's shield. Next the snowflakes will be demanding the removal of that medieval, violent, and offensive hate-symbol.

I suppose the Black Knights of Army West Point should be asked to leave the Patriot League now...rather than subject any of these politically correct meatheads to possibility of even seeing such a sight on the campus.
I will donate to the Crusader Athletic Fund (provided that name renames) but not one dime to the general fund....ever.

From the letter to alumni:
However, the visual depiction of a knight, in conjunction with the moniker Crusader, inevitably ties us directly to the reality of the religious wars and the violence of the Crusades. This imagery stands in contrast to our stated values.
This "guy" and the BOT are daft, don't know the history of Islam one darn bit. Pathetic.

What’s going to be the new logo? Androgynous snowflake person hugging him/herself? That could really catch on nationally with millennials. Think of all the t-shirts they could sell.

The more I consider the email from Phil Boroughs the more angry I become. There is nothing worse than an individual, group or institution that is spineless. And clearly the BOT and Phil Boroughs are clearly spineless. Yes, we will let the community say they are Crusaders but the reasonable depictions of a Crusader is not. Either it is or it ain’t. Phil - don’t let the door hit your backside on the way out. And to the board that allowed this to go down this path, shame on you - those that try to make everyone happy, make no one happy. You would think that all The business experience you gained over the years in your careers would have taught you that. Leadership is more than what you have capitulated to - shame on you.

We missed a great chance to take a stand against the rampant political correctness that is doing so much harm to our country. Sticking with the Crusader as is would have given us a great PR opportunity. I'm reminded of when I was a regional manager for The Coca-Cola Company and TPTB decided to change the formula for the flagship brand.......Maybe HC can do what TCCC did and bring back the original after the "new version" upsets the brand's loyalists. When Coke did that the brand took a huge leap forward...

Holy Cross stopped being the Holy Cross most of us old farts knew, a long time ago.
The school's academic rep is way down from where it once was, athletics are mostly a joke now, I hear the social life of the school is pretty miserable now...the whole place is a mess. Sad.

When you try to please both sides, you end up offending and creating anger on both sides! ! This is going to hurt HC where it hurts the most - the bottom line - $$$$$! Have already heard that one big donor/alum is DONE, DONE, DONE!!! How do you keep the name CRUSADERS and "cleanse" yourself of the knight in armor? Really feel bad for the class of '68! This is their 50th reunion coming up in a couple of months! Instead of becoming a "Purple Knight" and receiving the Purple Knight lapel pin, they might now be given a "Shield" !!!!!!! How much is it going to cost to remove/replace the beautiful logo on the end zone wall of the indoor football facility? ? Can't wait to hear what Tommy Heinsohn has to say!!!!!!!! Hopefully there is so much backlash that this decision will be reversed!!!

I wish it could be reversed, but one thing is true about political correctness...the actions of those who follow it are often offensive to many but those making the decisions are always certain they are "correct." I feel sorry for the HC president (no longer "our" college president). He was in a difficult position and seems not to have had the courage to stand his ground. I am glad I stocked up at the bookstore some time back and found a couple of new Avatars.

PS: Any chance we can get the shield on Crossports changed or at least add a knight and sword somewhere? After all, this site is not run by the College.

Love the trick where you remove the title Father from a priests name because you disagree with something they did. Would be like me not referring to someone as a Doctor because I didn't like their diagnosis.

Worcester State is the Lancers....they have a Knight with a sword as a logo. No problem there. Groton-Dunstable Regional High School is the Crusaders....people fought to keep name many times. Whitinsville Christian School is the Crusaders and has a Knight as their logo. No problem there either. Lunenburg High School is the Blue Knights. Have a menacing Knight as there logo. No problem there. These are just a few examples.
The HC Knight is about as intimidating as Ronald McDonald. People making this decision are a bunch of clowns. If I was an alum I'd be embarrassed.

Luckily my high school has enough sense to stay the Crusaders. Fewer snowflakes I imagine. IIRC, their newspaper is (and has always been) the Herald but their yearbook is also still the Crusader. Of course they also have lights for night games and major sports programs to go with their high academic standing, so maybe they are simply less threatened by political correctness.

I don't even want to stock up at the bookstore. Why give this spineless school one more penny? This is not the Holy Cross that I graduated from. PATHETIC!!! About a year ago a good friend bought me the ( inexpensive ) white coffee mug with the classic Crusader knight on horseback holding a lance flying a purple banner. As this 'logo' has been in use at HC AT LEAST 65+ years, I'm sure all of you are familiar with it.
I vividly recall as a young boy, when such was required, my parents buying several glossy HC book cover sheets in the campus store for me. Upon returning home I couldn't wait to 'cover' my school books. These glossy sheets had classy purple border stripes AND the exact purple Crusader knight on horseback as this coffee mug.
So it appears in a few years my office coffee mug will be a collectors item.
