Jehyve Floyd now has 121 blocks, good for 7th place all-time at HC and is likely to tie or pass Eric Obeyesekere in his next game. EO is in 6th with 123 career blocked shots. The 7 blocks tonight is tied for 2nd all-time for a single game. Eric Meister, surprisingly, holds the record with 9 blocks in a game. JF, EO, Big Tim Clifford, Josh Sankes, and Malcolm Miller all had a single 7 block game.
JF will become our all-time leader in field goal percentage (he is 245 for 384= .638) after he makes 55 more baskets as the list requires 300 made baskets. Ernie Floyd at .581 will fall to second place and Jim Nairus, now #10, will exit the list.

This was a big win. Wasn’t sure if they could handle SB, but they more than did so. Stoney brook is athletic, and a decent team. I’ve been to every game. This team is special- get on the bandwagon!

Missed the game, but definitely an impressive win tonight. Stony Brook is a solid team that we apparently dispatched pretty easily.
Looking at the young season objectively, we should be encouraged by two very convincing wins in the games we could be expected to win (sacred heart & stony brook) and beating a likely soon to be top 10 team (Michigan) and another strong big east team (Providence) at the half with our best offensive player (butler) a combined 2-27 from the field in those games. Definitely an encouraging start to the year and a fun team to watch, especially for how young we are.

Fun game to be at. All five starters in double figures for scoring. Jehyve with a stat stuffer of 10 points, 8 rebounds, 7 blocks, 5 assists. He’s fun to watch.

This was a tough gritty win against a team that has solid players. HC had a good shooting night, but the thing that impressed me the most was that HC was able to adapt when SB went to a zone, and eventually forced SB to go back to man-to-man -- at which point HC adapted again. HC also handled the press very well and protected the ball throughout the game.

Back from the game... Boys looked very, very good tonight! This is a win they needed and against a very good SBU team! There were several calls that went SBU's way and allowed them to get to the FT line much more than we did. Ironically, we were up by I think 12 and they were 17 - 19 from the FT line while we were 8 - 9! If it were not for that we would have been up by 20+! This is a fun team to watch! While the rotation of players is not long (you have to go with what is HOT at the moment) we are doing a very good job on O and D! Hopefully we can get a few more ( 2 or 3) to get on the bandwagon and we would have a very deep team that can make some noise! ! Of the four games this year, I've seen 2 in person and 1 on TV. The player that I am most impressed with his improvement from last year (and he was good last year) is JG! He seems to have grown in size and has been just leaps and bounds ahead of where he was last year! He is not a "WOW" player who has spectacular stretches but one who quietly racks up points, plays with a sense of urgency both on O and D! CG is another who has a tremendous amount of self confidence and doing very well! Great two handed power STUFF by MF tonight! Good to see AB get back on track! You knew he was better than what the last 2 games indicated! All in all a very good all around effort by the CRUSADERS!!! ! NAD and sader1970 sittng Court Side tonight! ! NAD was getting a bit worried when SBU had their run, but AB hit a three and almost fell into NAD's lap! He looked at NAD and gave him a wink and a "don't worry, we got this one"! ! Go get them on Sunday! Kind of wished that NS would have won out over Sienna since we play Sienna i a few weeks...

One of the most enjoyable HC basketball games in many years. The team played well in all facets of the game. An astounding 25 assists on 30 field goals. So happy that our warrior Butler got out of his scoring slump in a big way. He showed some of his good humor and confidence to NAD. Grandy was the beneficiary of a lot of great passes for back door lay-ups that he made consistently. In fact the muffed lay-ups of the last two games seem to have been "cured." 14 of 16 FTs made. 50% of FGs made and a very respectable 38.5% 3 pointers made. The crowd was sparse but among those who did attend was the usual solid turnout of purple, especially Crossporters including hchoops, sader81 (thanks, again!), NAD, HCFC45, Tom, HC92 and the entire clan ("you, you, you . . . on you!), I think I saw crusader1970 across the way but my eyes aren't what they once were. Probably others that I can't remember right now (past my bedtime! ). Nate and Stephanie in the crowd and seemed appreciative of the turnout and post game was very happy with the results. Also. happy to see ANT in attendance as well as Rob Champion up from NYC. Don't want to count the proverbial chickens but saw some of the Siena/Norfolk game and if the Crusaders can play against Siena as they did against Stony Brook, we should rack up our 3rd win of the season.

What a great game tonight! I’m very excited by our team’s strong start; it’s not inconceivable that we could have been 4-0. I’d never be hired to be a hoops talent scout - and my memory’s not the greatest, but I can’t recall an HC starting five that’s as quick and physically conditioned as our current squad. I can remember some more spectacular passing teams, but none with the timeliness and accuracy of the assists our guys are dishing out now.

Just watched the replay--most enjoyable. My two big takeaways--and I always admit I am at the opposite end of the spectrum from our real experts: (1) passing was very crisp--really snapped those passes, unlike in some games last year where the velocity on the passes was sub-optimal. (2) the back door cuts are just a joy to behold--great passing and finishes for the basket.

Otherwise disposed last night, but heartening to see the boys prevail. As always, checking performance against Dean Oliver's "four factors" - EFG% a big plus on both ends of the court, took great care of the ball, a solid performance (26.7%) on the O-boards. DRB% was poor again, and so was FT/FGA (which is pretty much baked into Carmody's system). www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/holy-cross/2019-gamelogs-advanced.html

Would be interested in hearing from those who watched, re: our defense. Were we "staying at home" more or still employing lots of run-and-jumps, overplays on the perimeter, etc.?

Austin is cool, just so cool. He clearly loved entertaining us old guys courtside. And I just checked the boxscore and could not believe Grandi's line: 21 points, 8 rebounds, TEN assists, and 1 turnover. Two of our big guys with double digit assist games 4 games into the season!
So much fun to watch. Jehyve seems to be having a blast out there. And this was a good team they beat, no doubt.
Keep it going boys; looking forward to tomorrow!

Great game dominated from start to finish against a good opponent. JG played the whole game except for the last minute of garbage time and had a near triple double. I think he is becoming an impact player and will be the consistent scorer this team needs on a daily basis. Nice to see JF have a dominant game which I think will be a common occurrence against mid major comp and particularly in PL play.

I must admit that I like the offense that can "never let the ball touch the ground" by HC. Thanks for the link to the replay of the game. Even more fun to watch the second time around.

Just my casual observation, but it does seem like we have slightly reduced the perimeter overplays a bit....and in turn, we seem to be attacking the post feeds more aggressively; just seemed like there was more purple around the ball under the basket than I remember in other games. I assumed SBU would really go to the glass hard in the second half, and even though the rebounding margin spread out a bit, we weathered those storms rather nicely.

Terrific game. Sunday should be fun. Siena has a local kid, who has his own loud section cheering for him. When SBU went back to their man D in the second I felt we were sure to at least play them even. They were struggling to catch up, we took advantage with beautiful passing and nice layups
