Since HCFC45 brought it up and NAD and I alluded to it, watch the replay of the game and at about the 1:21;50 mark after Austin hits his 3 to make it 68-51, he trips while back pedaling after the shot and falls at our feet (sader81, NAD, myself and one of 81's buddies) at the courtside seats, as AB gets up, you may or may not see the thumbs up to NAD and earlier (or later, can't recall) he gave us a wink. But on the fall down play, the announcer says something like "takes a spill in front of some Holy Cross fans."
I also noticed on the replay that while at the arc while HC taking a foul shot (Caleb?) you can see AB chatting it up and smiling with Latimer (#2) of Stony Brook. Earlier in the game, AB taking a shot as he drove to the basket and ball bounces out of bounds as he makes contact with 6'11" 240 lb Otchere and AB says something to Otchere that appears to be "are you OK?"
He may well be a warrior but this kid is having loads of fun out there.
Oh, and Jehyve said while the game was winding down to Caleb or Pat, can't recall which, "I'm bad" as in the opposite.
So much joy watching these guys when they put it all together. Grandy' post game nailed it when it said that they finally put two good halves together for a statement win.

Brief post-game comments from Grandy. "It's we, not me . . ."
I love the sly smile when he talks about the team’s play...

I absolutely noticed that (sader 1970's post) watching the replay last night and I love hearing, even if not directly from Paul Harvey, "the rest of the story"

Your memory is MUCH better than mine . . . . . and your hearing too. I think I can take credit for catching AB's thumbs up towards you - don't think it was to me - due to your more "vocal" cheering.

Would be interested in hearing from those who watched, re: our defense. Were we "staying at home" more or still employing lots of run-and-jumps, overplays on the perimeter, etc.? I was there the match up D was solid the whole game long. When we had the small lineup, PB at the 2 and JG at the 4, which was when they went back to their man d, we had a couple of breakdowns when JF left the paint and PB got caught on bad matchups, but other than those few possessions, we were consistently good. PB is effective vs man D, but we do give up size at the 2, 3 and 4 when we play that lineup. Few perfect lineups. For the most part, Stony Brook could not move the ball fast enough to keep up with our strong rotations. As far as our passing, 25 assists on 30 FG is as good as I remember in the CBC years. In fact, thinking back, this may become the best HC passing team since the Kelly- Perry teams or the Potter-Perry teams. But even those teams did not have 5 starters who could pass as well as this group. In the PO it is not set who usually gets the assist, unlike more common motion or pro set offenses.

Oh, one more thing. I mentioned to NAD during the game that we seemed to have a LOT of deflections on D and that "Ralph would be proud." Don't know if anyone on the coaching staff keeps score of these but to my untrained eyes there has been significantly more deflections than on past Carmody HC teams which is an indication that the D is improving.
FWIW, Rob Champion told me post game that the team "looks VERY good" and "playing well." And as I write this, I think AB's attitude in many ways is similar to RC's though AB is more with the sly wink and nod while Rob was a clenched fist arm pump. Both, big competitors that don't like to lose.

CBC’s first team which won the PLC was pretty good at deflections, led by Eric Green, the Secretary of Defense, esp during the PLT in the 1-3-1

I'll defer to your "more mature" memory then. Outside of Green, I kind of recall thinking that deflections was a lost art after RW. Since no one is keeping score, at least not that I am aware of, this falls under the "how many angels can fit on the head of a pin" category. [Don't start debating metaphors with me now, 45!]

As far as our passing, 25 assists on 30 FG is as good as I remember in the CBC years. Actually, the 25 assists is tops, but the 83.3% of field goals that came from assists is the ninth best mark.
Game. A/FG (%). Result
vs. Quinnipiac (11/22/15). 14/17 (88.2). Loss. vs. UNH (12/9/17). 19/22 (86.3). Win.
vs. Lehigh (1/16/16). 18/21 (85.7). Loss. vs. Lehigh (3/9/16). 18/21 (85.7). Win. vs. Monmouth (11/27/16). 23/27 (85.2). Loss. vs. Quinnipiac (12/11/16). 23/27 (85.2). Win. vs. Colgate (1/6/16). 17/20 (85). Win. vs. UNH (11/19/15). 21/25 (84). Loss.
The 2015-16 team ranked 11th nationally in A/FGM; the 16-17 team ranked 4th; last year's club was 52nd. So we've been pretty good at this right along, but not sure that it correlates particularly well with Ws and Ls.

Just a guess, but at least for our offense, esp when the opponent plays man D, we probably have a better chance of winning when we have both a lot of assists and a lot of FG, as we did in both categories last night. Interesting that with our 10 threes, 34 points in the paint, and 14 FTM, we scored only three 2 point field goals that were not in the paint or were threes. That is the way the PO is supposed to work, whether vs a man or zone D.

As someone who follows SBU, I thought their two best players Yeboah and Olayani, would be very tough matchups for us. They were and scored 20 and 19 points respectively...in just 26 minutes each. Not sure of Coach Boal's rotation last night but he must have seen something I did not. Carmody played our two best offensive players last night, Grandy and Austin Butler, 39 and 36 minutes each. Stony Brook is pretty deep and their coach may have overthought that.

As far as our passing, 25 assists on 30 FG is as good as I remember in the CBC years. Remembering that the game is played at both ends, and in the interest of full disclosure, Holy Cross' opponents have also had a very high rate of assists on their FGs during the CBC years. Fwiw, Carmody's Northwestern teams also generally ranked near the bottom in this defensive category, just as they ranked near the top at the offensive end. Interesting.
Holy Cross. Opponent A/FGM% (Rank)
2015-16. 58.2 (308th) 2016-17. 65.1 (347th) 2017-18. 59.6 (324th)

Michigan up 35-26 over GW at the half. Not at all surprising. Second game should be more interesting. Providence-Michigan after our game tomorrow would be fun.

Olayani was 7-17 Maybe Boals wanted to see if others could shoot better or it could have been failures on D Did you forget to say how effectively HC playing at both ends was the deciding factor ?

On a personal health issue note, how heavy was the smoke in the casino as one walked from the garage to the arena?
The air in the casino can be very smoky, which in the past has made me uncomfortable while attending games at Mohegan Sun.

I’m a non smoker and the smoke isn’t bad at all. The only time I’ve noticed is when a smoker is very near you.

The air in the casino can be very smoky, which in the past has made me uncomfortable while attending games at Mohegan Sun. We parked in the Riverview garage and didn’t really notice the smoke until a guy with a cigarette walked right past us. Other than that, I didn’t think it was bad. Today’s 11:00 start time should help. Should be pretty empty in the casino at that point.

Thank you for update, in the past I had to drive home with the windows opened after going to a game.
Did not think walking through the casino with a respiratory mask was a good idea. 😷 I can see being questioned by Security for hours. High intensity lights and thumb screws is not my idea of a fun Sunday morning.

Re smoke...definitely better than the last time we played there, about 7 years ago, but also no doubt that you're inside a building that permits smoking, which of course is not found anywhere else.
