Harvard is currently 2-2 with wins over MIT and UMass and losses to Northeaster and Rhode Island (74-76). The game against URI may have been their best so far this year.
Bassey, Djuricic Notch Career Highs, But Rhode Island Edges Men’s Basketball, 76-74 KINGSTON, R.I. – Junior Justin Bassey and sophomore Danilo Djuricic had career days in the points column, but a late 3-pointer pushed Rhode Island past Harvard men's basketball, 76-74, on Friday night at the Ryan Center. The Crimson falls to 2-2 on the season, while Rhode Island improves to 2-1. Bassey led the Crimson with 23 points on 7-for-9 shooting, while Djuricic poured in 20 on a 7-for-10 mark from the field. Both players connected on a trio of 3-pointers. Junior Chris Lewis was also in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Bassey knocked down a pair of early triples to give Harvard an early lead, but Rhode Island fought back to even the score by the first media timeout. Djuricic helped the Crimson regain the lead, 26-24, after a three of his own, but the Rams went into the intermission with a five-point lead, 41-36. Harvard led for a majority of the second half, with Harvard shooting 58 percent from the floor in the period. The Crimson hit eight free throws down the stretch, including a 6-for-6 tally from Bassey, and led by one before a Rhode Island 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds to go gave them the lead. The Crimson's 3-point attempt at the buzzer was blocked, giving URI the win.
Harvard Highlights
Bassey and Djuricic each recorded career-highs, going for 23 and 20 points, respectively. Harvard assisted on 18 of its 27 field goals, with Djuricic leading the way with a career-best five helpers.
Game Notes
Harvard had two 20-point scorers for the first time since March 2 of last season, when Chris Lewis, Seth Towns and Christian Juzang all reached the mark against Cornell. The Crimson falls to 3-6 all-time against the Rams, and is 1-1 against Atlantic 10 teams this season. There were 21 lead changes and nine ties in the back-and-forth battle.

A little surprised they play D-III MIT. For the last few years, they seem to be looking up, not down. Must be some sort of Brainiac Cup between the two schools

Harvard will be tougher next year as they have signed some high level recruits, ic Chris Ledlum who turned down many high level hoops and football schollies, inc HC.

I respect the purple glasses and I wear 'em too, but think your "inc" would realistically have to be replaced with "and" as Ledlum had multiple Power 5 offers.

Their 2016 class was ranked 10th in the country, and included 4 Top 100 players (ESPN). Amaker seems to bring in high level recruits every year, but more often than not they do not live up to the hype due to some pretty inept coaching. Despite recruiting at a very high level and having unlimited scholarships, they have not finished inside KenPom's top 100 since 2015, and are just a combined 4 games over .500 against D1 teams since the start of the 2016 season (.523 winning %).

Nails it. We have been hearing about Harvard and their 4 star recruits for almost a decade. Obviously they've had some nice teams over that stretch, but nothing that I would call otherworldly.

Exactly. Carmody is 3-0 against Harvard at HC. Same story every year. Harvard allegedly has a huge talent advantage, we beat them, people act surprised, rinse, repeat.

At least you have to admire Amaker’s decision to keep scheduling us. See Chestnut Hill Junior College

Considering taking the trip to Harvard..Haven't been there in a few years..What is the parking situation there??? There’s a pretty good sized lot with an entrance off N Harvard Ave near football stadium. Just folllow the attendants to a parking spot. I don’t renmember it being too expensive ($5-$10). I usually try to beat the crowd out the door after the game, as I get the feeling it could be congested when leaving.

Wonder when Towns and Aiken are coming back; big losses for the Crimson (or Johnnies, whichever you prefer).
My biggest worry is the law of averages working against the guys.

That gym was a nightmare.

Pretty sure the court’s at ground level. But, I do have a slightly erratic memory.

Must be some sort of Brainiac Cup between the two schools What is surprising is that these games count in the standings. This year, BU defeated Emerson and Albany defeated SUNY Oneonta, both D111 schools. HC should play WPI (they are good) but I do remember a D111 disaster a few years back against Williams.

Why on earth would HC play WPI? I can't see any benefit to Holy Cross since that is one of those "if we win so what, if we lose it is a disaster" games.

Last night Harvard lost at San Francisco (57-61). SF is now 5-0. Harvard (now 2-3) will play at St. Mary's (CA) on Saturday. Harvard is an 8 point underdog. Massey still has Harvard as a 7 point favorite over HC, but now predicts a score of 66-59.

At San Francisco, Harvard was down 11 at the half but came back to make it very close in the closing minutes of the second half. From the Harvard website:
SAN FRANCISCO – In California for the first of two in-a-row on the west coast, Harvard men's basketball had its rally cut short by San Francisco, 61-57, on Wednesday night at the War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. Junior Chris Lewis led three Crimson players in double figures with 16 points, ending the night 7-for-12 from the field while adding a game-high three blocked shots. Sophomore Danilo Djuricic and first-year Noah Kirkwood finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while sharing the team lead with seven rebounds. The Crimson (2-3) defense limited the Dons (5-0) to just 32 percent shooting from the field.
Harvard trailed by 11 points at the break, with Lewis leading the team with eight first half points. The Dons opened up a 10-point lead midway through the period, but baskets from sophomore Rio Haskett and Djuricic quickly cut the home team's advantage to five. Kirkwood stopped a San Francisco run to end the half with a 3-pointer from the wing. The Crimson stormed back from a 14-point deficit in the second half, and took the lead with 5:06 to play after a pair of free throws from first-year Spencer Freedman capped a 16-5 run. After back-and-forth action, Freedman had a chance to tie the game at 59 apiece with 34 seconds on the clock, but his runner missed, and San Francisco held on for the win.
Harvard Highlights
The Harvard defense limited San Francisco to 32 percent shooting from the field, including a 2-for-18 mark from 3-point range. Lewis led the Crimson in scoring for the fourth time this season, ending the night with 16 points. Harvard came from behind in the second half with a 16-5 run, led by six points from Lewis and five from Djuricic during the stretch.
Game Notes
Harvard falls to 0-3 all-time against the Dons. Three straight Harvard road games have now been decided by four or fewer points. Harvard may be ready to break through this year with a string effort in the Ivy league..
