Agree completely. We are getting a guy who has been practicing against an ACC defense for the past two years and was the backup quarterback at wake for the second half of last season. Noted quarterback Talent evaluator Sader 1970 has questions and seems very concerned about how much financial aid he was receiving, but I for one am excited.

94:
Here's what I actually said: I have no concerns about how much financial aid he was/is receiving. Schollie or walk-on is an indicator of perceived talent. All I said was my expectations were lower than some. Obviously, lower than yours, 94. I did not question his talent, I questioned his experience. But hope he, or another QB(s), work out well.
Why, discount this comment of mine?: "He may be the second coming of Dom Randolph or whoever was the 180 degree opposite of Dom. As posted before, I will put my confidence in whoever Chesney & Co. think is best at QB"
As to the sarcastic comment about being a "noted quarterback talent evaluator," which I never claimed, and just used the critical thinking skills I learned at HC, perhaps you'd like to expound on your bona fides?

sader1970, Steady there, son. Let's not make this more than it is. I am sure will soon find out just how talented Matt is at QB. IMHO, we will also se a real battle for the starting role. Things appear to be looking up at the position that had been causing the most concern here on CROSPORTS. GO CROSS (and each and every QB candidate!)

I'm as unconvinced as anyone regarding Matt's very thin resume (level of competition in high school, pro-style and footspeed, role at Wake Forest, etc.) BUT we've got to be objective about the other 5 guys. Just like this past year, it'll be a battle for the starting position and the guy who ultimately wins out may not be the guy who starts the season as the starter.

While I very much enjoy some good, old-fashioned Crossports bickering as much as the next guy, I’m going wait and see who runs out there for our first series against Navy and root like hell for that guy.

I think the question now becomes... what O schemes are we practicing?
we appear to have depth/talent & experience at OL & RB, but not WR... of the 11 WR's, 2 are Sr/Jr & 5 are Fr

We also have Henry Teeter converting from TE to WR and I look forward to seeing what he can do--sure was impressive on his HS highlight reel--and I do understand that college is different.

I admit that I liked Coach Gilmore a lot. He was the hardest working guy on the staff. His love for HC was obvious. I thought that it was terrible that HC returned his dedication and love by firing him unceremoniously in mid-season. IMHO, HC showed a lack of appreciation and loyalty similar to owners(?) of professional sports franchises or big time programs. Out of appreciation and respect for this man who coached at HC for many years , he should have been let go after the season ended. Obviously, a worthwhile discussion about this incident is long past but I wanted to lay my cards on the table for context. Coach Gilmore was an assistant at Wake in 2018. Isn't it likely that this student came into contact with Coach Gilmore and through this contact, the student became aware of HC and Gilmore's respect and love for our school? Is it one last gift from the coach? I write this not to diminish the great appeal of Coach Chesney. Maybe, I'm a myopic romantic. LoveHC Yes you are, but the myopia can be addressed by Lasik surgery or a new eyeglass prescription. 🙂 I think TG would put in a good word about HC based on the classy way he handled his sudden departure and the effort he put in over his entire tenure. I also think HC probably made sure they paid him every cent owed and didn't hassle him when the WF opportunity arose, but I don't know. What a better approach than the UConn BB coach situation. Interesting that TG developed two QBs who earned NFL free agent signings and the WF QB transferred here as opposed to Lehigh. Coach Chesney is a winner, but he hasn't matched that feat yet. Let's hope he does. We have several promising QB prospects.

Spineless TPTB should have told him no. Of course he didn’t. I get sick remembering Rock dancing on his grave up and down at kickoff against what I remember as an absolute waxing against Colgate.

I always admired TG. I wish him all the best in his new home (not against HC, of course). I agree he should have been allowed to finish the year. It was the least the college could have done for his many years of faithful service.

Am assuming he is now somewhere around 215-220lbs.. AIR, even as a preferred walk-on at Wake, the local press were impressed by his arm strength and accuracy. I think the situation for him going forward was Wake had 2 very good RPO type QB's and another who was a good runner plus a highly rated recruit incoming this season. I suspect Matt is more a pro-style passing QB which is not really conducive to Wake's up-tempo / no huddle RPO offense. It will bare watching how flexible Chesney will be in possibly tweaking his offensive scheme if Matt looks good at the helm early on. Overall, it's safe to assume HC now has an above average QB with experience at a P5 ACC program. As to offensive flexibility, and perhaps apropos of nothing, but Coach Murphy (offensive coordinator) no longer has "Spread 'em & Shred 'em" in his twitter handle or twitter account description. See below in his most recent tweet from the recruiting trail.

As the RW years showed in my opinion, HC athletes are smart enough to master complex schemes and adjust to game plans designed to respond best to each opponents strengths and weaknesses, thus making the whole team stronger than the sum of the parts and performing well against talented competition.
The key is the HC coaches being able to choose the right approaches for the talent available and teach it well.
Maybe it is easier in BB with five players at a time on the floor, I don't know, but I used to compare Ralph Willard favorably with Bill Belichick in my mind. I thought both coaches used the intelligence of their hand selected players as an asset. Let's see how year two of the Chesney/Murphy offense goes with more time teaching the players. I'm opptomistic.

Obviously the pic is inside Northwestern’s new indoor practice facility but can anyone clearify what the ‘Chicagoland showcase’ is and it’s connection to Northwestern? Programs purposely run their own camps/showcases for elite prospects this time of year and I suspect that’s what is going on in the background.
If so, I’ve no idea what Coach is doing there

mm67 -
Gilmore wasn’t an assistant ( as in coach ) at Wake. He was one of two ‘analysts’ , what used to be called ‘scouts’ in ancient times. One did offense and the other defense. They also did self analysis on Wake’s offense and defensive prep for game weeks. Neither assisted any position coach or worked with players.

Luth, albeit @ 100 yards and not 120, looks to be a better facility than Northwestern's. Ryan's ceiling is too low for punts, field goals.. And I'm sure a great view of Lake Michigan on a cold / windy / snowy November / December day would not meet the definition of mesmerizing.

For the critics regarding Luth IPF at 100 yards, please remember that each trust for the roof cost 2 million dollars. To extend the facility to 120 yards would have added at least 6 to 8 million in additional cost to build.

He got elevated to assistant mid-season. Assistant vs. analyst - a distinction without a difference as to my point of his contact with a player? Peace. Wake had some coaching turnover midseason. They fired their defensive cooridinator. In the shake up Gilmore went from defensive analyst to I believe linebackers coach,
