I still think it's going to be challenging to get a quality PG to come in a year after Drew, if CG is indeed gone.

Possibly, but Kolek looks more like a two guard. If Green is gone, we need another point guard, which I believe that BN would soon offer. agree at best a 1 1/2 -- but looks to play more naturally as a 2

Hard, but possible to find a 6’2-3 “ scoring point who could play both positions effectively and back up both.Drew and Ryan.. Maybe Kolek is that guy. Difficult to tell in the video clip. about whether he has enough point skills.

So assuming Green & Grandison are gone and all of the remaining Carmody guys graduate (a big if given the track record), the graduation rate of Carmody’s first 3 classes (11 players) would be 54.5%.
What an absolute joke.
Would have to go back to Raynor for a worse time for Holy Cross basketball.
Let’s see what you’ve got, Coach Nelson!

I’d be curious to know whether Green and Grandison would have transferred if Carmody didn’t resign. But even still, having three of 11 not graduate isn’t very good.

No comments on the Caleb Green thread on Fairfield message board since July 7 And prior to that, the only info on the Fairfield board was taken directly from this board.

What an absolute joke. I don't think it's reasonable to call out Coach Carmody because Green and Grandison transfer and graduate somewhere else. We called out Coach Brown for a lot of things, but not Hahn's transfer. -------------------- I really hope this is something like parlaying a four year scholarship into a five year scholarship and getting a free year of grad school or wanting to change majors to something Fairfield is really strong in.

I'm not loving the concept of having zero experienced scholarship point guards on the team Green did a pretty good job there as a frosh. From various accounts, Lowder is ahead of Green at similar points in their careers.

One thing is certain. The recent developments have opened the door very wide for our frosh to be key players on the 2019/20 edition of the Crusaders.

/\ Just as circumstances led to many of our rising juniors getting lots of playing time as frosh, our incoming frosh may get lots of playing time due to personnel machinations and timing. (Doesn't necessarily mean they are super compared to our competition as many have learned, but it does mean they may be the best players at their position within the team.)

Assuming Green and Grandison are, indeed, gone, we return just 34.8% of minutes played.
We will learn just how good the freshmen are in game one.

Taking it a step further... HCBN's most important job right now is spending the (now) three available scholarships for 2020. The balance of power on this roster just shifted from the class of 2021 to the class of 2023. The prime competitive window for this program will be driven by how these incoming frosh develop, and what we bring in behind them.
The coming season is about establishing an identity, even amid an almost certain 20+ losses. Maybe, just maybe, there's a good team to be had in 2020-21 with the remaining juniors as seniors, the current incoming frosh class becoming a group of very experienced sophomores, and three 2021 frosh (or maybe a transfer in there) rounding out the rotation.
More likely, Nelson's first contending run in the PL comes when the incoming frosh are juniors, and he has two hopefully stocked classes behind them.

The freshmen guards may get many minutes, but I think the front court returning players, Hargis, Verbeek, Niego and obviously Faw will be given the first chances at playing ahead of Pridgen and Sandy. There will be more of a balance of minutes among classes than what would have occurred before the transfers.

I am a glass full guy and believe the new energy and approach will win a few games that are otherwise thought to be loses on paper. Still might mean 20 loses but it could also mean a winning record. I never discount the fact that if Nelson’s approach, or any new coach, creates an atmosphere that teaches them how to win and they embrace it they could steal a number of games with a less talented roster.

Sure, anything is possible. The 2019-20 team will be under-experienced and under-manned. Those are just facts; but that doesn't mean they can't surprise or that we won't be rooting for them. Progress isn't necessarily linear, but my point is that 2019-20 is a starting point and things should get better in each successive year.

What I do hold him accountable for is a deteriorating culture in the program before Nelson's arrival. Between the multiple transgressions from the miscreants to two guys who would have stayed at Holy Cross to play for a guy who has 17 consecutive seasons with a losing conference record but wouldn't stay at HC to play for a guy who was a McDonald's All-America, College All-American, played in the National Championship game, and is coming in with a chip on his shoulder. Carmody turned HC into an undisciplined, soft program. Thankfully it appears that Nelson has the personality to get that rectified ASAP.
