When half the players can get kicked off the team for reasons that we're not told about, then it's tough for me to invest interest and concentration one way. I think the coaching change is going to be a net positive if not for anything other than a fresh face and attitude. We (I think? I couldn't even keep up with the nonsense) lost two players to transferring, and our best player to graduation. What is left is a group of unproven, or potentially unwanted recruits who may or may not have what it takes. I think it could make a compelling story, us versus them, nobody believed in us cliched sports drama, but if the Ws don't outpace the Ls, then I will not even sniff the kool-aid let alone drink it.
Football I think has taught the die-hard purple fans best, most recently. So many folks jumped right onto the bandwagon simply because of a new coach who happen to succeed next door, but never on the same level. Hasn't succeeded yet.
So while I'm glad to coaching change happened, the person brought in isn't making me jump for joy. It's less of the addition of something great and exciting than the removal of something that was disappointing. We'll see if what we get is going to make us happy.
Feels like being a Jets fan. Picking coaches/GMs late in the process, having leftover players, injuries strike, and being projected in the lower half/quadrant of the division even when things were scheduled to go well. Three games in and feels like you're playing for next year.

Luckily HC has never had half the players "kicked off" any team for any reason (announced or not). Were you thinking of some other school?
Please don't compare HC to the Jets. Unlike the Jets, HC now has a coach with a record as a winner. Let's give him time at this level to do what he has done at each level previously.
[BTW: Some may have jumped on the HC bandwagon because of a new coach, better recruiting and a new energy level for the program. Others oppose the coach because that is their own sort of bandwagon. Same old, same old.]

Not half... but was it two? Three? Out of how many scholarship players? Again, the whole thing was swept under the rug. With regard to the Jets, that's what we are. When it's not bad performance, it's bad luck. When it's not bad luck, it's injuries. When it's not injuries, it's a bad coach. When it's not a bad coach it's... and on and on and on. We haven't been tops in our own division in a long time, and the last time we won a championship was fifty+ years ago. If our colors were green, you'd hear "J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS" chanted in the stands!
I have a bad taste in my mouth from the aforementioned player dismissal, as well as the overall performance of the team over the last few years. Nothing against the current players, but there's nothing on paper to get hyped up about. Obviously, will still root for the team, but let's see some real basketball played before the bandwagon gets loaded up.

Just don't have someone come down with mono, eh?
I put the dismissals in two categories: (1) A guy they should have perhaps vetted more before bringing him in. Given that he messed up around this time of the year after matriculating at HC tells me there were red flags all over the place. (2) What should or shouldn't the staff have known about the other 3- problems with them all along or something out of the blue.

In the last 4 years, there were 4 players suspended/dismissed...I understand that "half the team" was simply hyperbole. It appears that of the four, there were three who were scholarship players and one who was not. There were no charges against any of the players. Therefore, all of them have rights (including privacy of personal information) that prevent the school from announcing what prompted this. Each of the 4 paid a price. Could more thorough vetting have avoided this? Perhaps, but there is no way to know for sure. At least HC did not suspend players for a meaningless ooc game or two and then bring them back for bigger games, as other schools have done. I hope we have seen the last of that sort of issue. We'll see.

I think if there was NCAA or Court involvement there would be more of a public record, but since no other entity announced anything HC couldn't and shouldn't spread any dirt about the students. I hope they all are succeeding now and can choose their own explanation why they left HC if it comes up.
The players and HC are "on to Cincinnati." ☺️

Connor Niego appears a bit more chiseled to me. Appears that he spent some quality time in the weight room.

Appears that he spent some quality time in the weight room. agreed. also nice to see butler training/practicing in the video, not that his strength was ever in question (!!!), but glad he seems to be healthy after playing hurt last year and the surgery.

Connor can be a huge plus for the team if his form returns to what he showed us in early games last season. In the four games in which he played 10+ minutes (maybe he needs continuity of play to get on track)--Michigan, Providence, UMass, URI-- he played 85 minutes and scored 42 points on 11-17 on twos, 6-10 on threes, and 2-3 from the line.

Connor really needs to up his game on the boards. I believe he had a total of 15 rebounds in the ten games he played last year. I suspect that average will increase in a big way this year.

Niego's usage when healthy last year was truly bizarre. In the six games he played less than 10 minutes a game he scored a total of 8 points and was scoreless in four of them. In the four games he played more minutes ( which was against better competition) he averaged double figures. It was always confusing to me as to why Carmody didn't give him more minutes on a regular basis. I like Butler as a player but find it hard to believe he was severely impacted by injury last year. His shooting percentage was up significantly last year. Three point shooting increased from 33% to 40% year to year. Don't know exactly when he was injured but his shooting was apparently not affected as his shooting percentage was the same in non conference and conference play.

Is it possible his injury was bothering him more in the games he played fewer minutes ?

He only played less than 30 minutes in two games, 26 and 29 minutes, so it doesn't look like his playing time was affected at all.
