This is very different and very far from a Sean Kearney situation.

He deserves 3-4 years with his players to deliver results and grow into his role. But like everybody he needs to get better as well. Couldn’t agree more and I firmly believe he will.

Most sane people were willing to let the last two coaches get "their" players. Unless there's something going on behind the scenes (physical or mental abuse, NCAA violations, etc.) this man deserves his chance. I'll never see another HC basketball game if he's just outright let go given what he had to work with. I think CBN will survive the ride back from Lewisburg. I wonder if ADMB will be on the ride.

Obvious from yesterday that Blossom and Nelson are in this together right now. Nelson's the coach for the foreseeable future

Obvious from yesterday that Blossom and Nelson are in this together right now. Nelson's the coach for the foreseeable future No kidding. If, after four seasons, Nelson has failed, then so has ADMB. More often than not, the success of the AD at any school is tied to the performance of men’s basketball and football.

He deserves 3-4 years with his players to deliver results and grow into his role. But like everybody he needs to get better as well. you mean the answer to our program woes isn't that either a.) the players completely suck and it's 100% their fault/carmody's fault OR b.) nelson is a clueless impostor who is in "ovah his head" and it's 100% his fault?!? seriously, this post is the voice of reason that i would venture to guess covers almost everybody's opinion. we definitely need more talent on the roster. nelson also needs to coach up his roster more effectively, especially on the defensive end. nelson will most definitely get at least 3 years, and probably at least 4 unless we have another disastrous season (no more seasons like this accepted... period), and hopefully by then he will have improved the roster, improved his x's and o's/roster management, we're successful again, and 2019-2020 is a distant memory.

Today's Telegram has an article by Jennifer Toland on the Worcester Academy recruits who have signed for next year. It seems that they can't wait to join the program and help the team win the league title.

Not sure the characterization is correct, but from my perspective it would be fair to say he inherited a bad, and eventually a short roster, to play a style that didn’t match the talent. He brought energy to his role that had been missing, and it seems to be bearing fruit in the new recruits. But like most first year coaches he needs to grow into his role, including game and roster management, which we all hope or believe will happen. The role of every coach is to position and prepare their team to win, And as the head coach he owns the results of every season he is in charge, just like every other manager or leader.

IIRC, the experts and the public both expected Kearney's 2009-10 team to be pretty good and finished near or at the bottom of the league (but did win an unexpected tournament game before bowing out). The small uptick at the end of the year seemed to be attributable to the players demanding to play the defense they played for Ralph. Kearney's man-to-man was, as HC87 might say, a disastah.
Nelson's team even if Carmody was coaching and had stayed in tact, was picked at or near the bottom. From that, take away 4 of those guys (Grandy, Green, Hargis, Druzi). Seems like apples and oranges. My only complaint would be that why play man with a group of talent that clearly couldn't (and probably can't in the future)?

My favorite lines came from Pridgen "another year of preparation and we’ll be ready to roll.” In his view one more year of learning and building and HC will be Nelson's team and off to the races. I can live with that. He sounds like a man committed to the program and to Holy Cross...one who has learned and grown. This is an article that every HC fan needs to read. I like it.

After this kind of season and the beatings this team has taken on far too many occasions I don't know how a coach can say it hasn't been disappointing. I know I am sick of watching games where the outcome has been decided before the first half is over.

For the record (can't remember exactly how he said it), but CBN did speak to the "disappointing" record (again, probably not spot on with this,so don't shoot the messenger).

We have heard Nelson evaluate the current players and incoming recruits, but I’d be curious to learn his take on the coaching staff and a self-evaluation of himself.
What did he learn after year one of running a program?
What does he believe his strong suits are and what are areas for improvement?
Beyond bringing in some more talent, what does he need to do in order to get HC to the top of the PL?
What’s his philosophy on scheduling? Does a brutal OOC schedule help or hurt?
Where does he need to grow as a head coach?

So if Nelson replaced Ralph with his vanilla man to man defense , then would we had expected a team mutiny back then against him ?

BTW, they did not offer Q/A yesterday...Nelson said he had to get to the team to prepare In the past, wouldn’t one of the assistants meet in the Bud Ryan room with members of the Hoop Club to chat about the game that night and do some Q&A? Does that still happen?

Does that still happen? That was the Hoops Hospitality program the Hoops Club used to run. Assistants did come up to speak and take questions. Provided some decent eats too (pretty much cheese and crackers yesterday).
