Feels like the PL in general has seen an uptick in transfers this year but maybe I am just paying more attention given our own staggering number of appearances in the portal. Hoping this is a one year blip and kids get back to appreciating the long term value of the PL schools and the relationships and other experiences available during their four years. Nelson had obviously better develop stronger connections with the incoming recruits than he apparently had last year with the outgoing players. We’re very likely to have the PL ROY on our team next year. If that player transfers, I’m giving my CAF money to the JTG and learning woodworking or some other hobby.

I sure hope Ryan stays. He showed a lot of character this year. He was asked to play big minutes and play out of position His only position all year was the one he was recruited for- the shooting guard. Maybe he played a little point in a game or two after Lowder quit, but that did not last very long. I think he was asked to do a lot more defensively than you’d normally ask of a freshman and appeared to work very hard at that part of his game given the improvement over the course of the season. I think of playing out of his comfort zone as an issue at the defensive end rather than the offensive end.

I agree with NAD, the PL is screwed as we will not be able to keep top athletes as the Power 5 schools will eat up any top athletes that start out in the PL. It is the way it's heading and I don't see any way that it will change.

...and with their "pro" athletes leaving after a year or two, they will always have openings.

I think many on this board do not realize how hard it is to recruit players to Holy Cross...in any sport. This is not 1977. Milan Brown recruited Jehyve Floyd, Mitchell Hahn, Jahaad Proctor, and Andrew Kostecka, among others. And it wasn't in 1977. If he had been a half way decent game coach, he'd still be here and we'd have more to celebrate over the last decade than a March 2016 that was the product of a fluke shot and a freak defender.
Just out of curiosity, what was the reason Proctor, Kostecka and Hahn transferred?

Proctor and Kostecka de-committed, and Hahn transferred closer to home, after Brown was fired.

I'm about ready to see a I-A, I-AA split. If the trend continues it's going to ruin March Madness for me; I just feel like there will be fewer and fewer upsets. If you're a low major without a grad school or the ability to consistently take in jucos, I think you're screwed. And to think not all that long ago the PL was able to field 2 top 100 teams that could complete pretty consistently with the hoi polloi. Just sitting here right now, I'm not sure that can happen again. One thing that will help is if the NCAA retains the year waiting period for transfers. If you only have 13 scholarships, there aren't going to be a lot of schools with more than one guy sitting out at a time. It practically limit how many transfers any school would take at a time. It also helps with the main purpose of the rule. Recruiting is the worst of the cesspool. Imagine how bad it would be if it never stopped. In theory coaches stop knocking in the door of the stud ball player after he commits. Now all they'll be coming for 3 years with all kinds of enticements, legal and not so legal.

Proctor and Kostecka de-committed, and Hahn transferred closer to home, after Brown was fired. Why did they decommit? Because Brown got fired. A lot of players decommit/transfer when their coach is fired or leaves and the new coach is hired. That's not uncommon. I'm not sure why so many posters are so scandalized by BC's players transferring.

There simply has to be a penalty to discourage transferring.

But if you're basing this on what you've seen on HS game video, I'd wait until the frosh play in a handful of games before saying "very likely".

Combo of having six of them and more than half (maybe a lot more) of the minutes likely to go to that group. Not a judgment re: ability relative to other PL recruits.

Unfortunately, there's a real possibility that things will not work out for JP as he hopes. Should that happen, he will regret his decision for the rest of his life. Caveat: Unless what prompted this was BN telling JP that his role would be drastically reduced in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. This is a lifelong decision, not one just about basketball.

Try telling that to most 18 yr old athletes.

Try telling that to most 18 yr old athletes. I know although quotes from the Townsel kid indicate he has things in priority. Of course, he isn’t 18 any more.

He's had a different kind of journey to reach Holy Cross and I predict that he will be very happy, thankful, and productive after all he's been through.

Yeah, because it’s super common to tell your freshman of the year and returning cornerstone that he’s not in your plans going forward. Can I have some of what you’re smoking? It’s also incredibly condescending to suggest that we all know what is in JP’s interests more than he does.

Let's face it -- after one year in the program, Joe believes he has a brighter future elsewhere. Scholarship offers (if they indeed materialize) from Arkansas, Richmond and URI are nothing to sneeze at.

It’s also incredibly condescending to suggest that we all know what is in JP’s interests more than he does. I said "IF things don't work out." That implies that JP doesn't get as many mins as he wants, doesn't like the new coach, doesn't like the new school's environment, etc., etc., etc. IF...god forbid....that happens, I don't believe it is "condescending" to say he would regret his decision. Also, I never said "he's not in your plans." I said "his role...drastically reduced." This season he was Mr. Everything and received lots of recognitions. That could go to a young man's head. Next season, the betting is that his role will be reduced because he has more talent around him. (Black & White Thinking....it's a Logical Fallacy.....you committed it.......look it up....thanks)
