4-12 which I assume (always a tricky proposition) means no PLT....if it does, 4-13.....improvement, couldn't get any worse...2021-22 will really be the season we'll see if this program is headed in the right direction...

Can we turn the heat and hot water off in the visitors locker room? Can we install dead spots on the floor?

HC owns every disadvantage in the book, except for major injury. If the other teams in our bubble have bad luck, which I don't wish for, that could be an equalizer of sorts.

We own one advantage in our first two games and that is our roster has significantly changed and few if any know what to expect on Monday at 2 pm., including our opponent.

So true..and we need our players to be able to perform on game day! If we don't perform well, it won't matter if BU has no scouting on us....I for one, have high hopes for this group, and look forward to the season! We have to remember this is the first recruiting class for Coach Nelson, time will tell! GO CROSS GO!!!!!

Probably not the right thread, but the Bison struggled - up 12 with 11 min and lose by 11 scoring just 8 more points. Lafayette and Lehigh in OT, colgate have an easy time with Army

6 wins on the hope the newcomers are of a higher caliber than what we've been getting lately. Lafayette and Lehigh a great game Lehigh wins by 1 in OT on a 3 pointer at buzzer. Lafayette hit a 3 at the buzzer in regulation to send to OT. jWorski had 37 , Petrie did not play don't know if he's still hurt.

Petrie is not playing anymore due to a health condition - laf and Lehigh played very well considering the long layoff - navy trailed bucknell by 17 with 12 minutes to go and came back to win - Cam Davis is very good for the Mids

Petrie is not playing anymore due to a health condition - It was reported in late August that he was taking the year off due to doctors' concerns that his immune system might be weakened from the illness that caused him to miss the previous year. Has there been a report that he is no longer going to play at all?

Since he’s a senior I was assuming he’s graduating on time and his college career is over

I project that we will win 5 games this coming season, all in the regular season
Last season was the worst since I've been following HC and likely the worst in program history. How did we lose so many games, including one to UMass-Boston?
Ineffective Defense Opponents made a high percentage of the threes Opponents made a high percentage of their twos We caused few turnovers We were not a good rebounding team So our opponents, get this, took 75 more FG attempts but made 150 more total baskets. In effect, we gave them extra shots and they made 200% of them....
Ineffective offense We drew few fouls-- opponents took 140 more free throws and made 112 more than we did We had a mediocre 3 point percentage We turned the ball over a lot--117 more turnovers than our opponents We did not rebound well on offense
So, this non-expert's quick statistical analysis turns up 8 areas needing improvement. Can we do better on 3 or 4 or 5 of those areas? If so we can win a higher percentage of this year's games.
A look at some players
Austin Butler-I've always been one of his biggest fans as I love the way he plays and I think he's talented. Some on the board have disagreed. We are hearing that the injuries that have plagued him have healed. If so, I think we can see him move forward as a senior. We'll need his leadership and tenacity on the court . My stat goal would be for him to improve his 3 point shooting (shot .400 as a soph then .350 as a junior) and concentrate on scoring (and defense of course) and not have to worry about playing out of position as a PG.
Matt Faw-- Matt played 589 minutes last year but I think we'll need him for more this year. We need him to commit fewer fouls, continue to block shots, and return to the good FT shooting we saw as a frosh and soph. He'll need to grab boards.
Gerrale Gates- Can't wait to see him play. I'm not sure what past HC player might be a good comparison--maybe we haven't had a player with his type of game in a while. HC and New Orleans are two different teams with different schemes but I think we can learn something from his play there. He's not an outside shooter but I think he'll help with rebounding and I think he's a good passer. He can score down low but is not a high percentage guy on his twos. He draws some fouls and doesn't commit many. He'll certainly set some picks and command his space in the paint.
Judson Martindale--- He's a real wild card, but maybe all freshmen are. I think he can be a scorer and hope he can hit the three, although, of course, many here know that "i hate the three". It looks like he's starting so perhaps he has practiced well. Let's get a read on his defense and also see how he adjusts to the speed of the college game
R.J. Johnson-- Like the original one this guy was also a football star. I think we are really going to like him, optimist that I am. If he can give us 25+ minutes at point guard that will be abig help and I think he'll do some scoring in addition to play making.
Ryan Wade-- I'd like to see Ryan become more than a three-point shooter: 85% of his field goal attempts last year were from beyond the arc. He played well at times but likely would not have played so many minutes (981) on any previous HC team. I recall Ralph saying that the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores. Yes, many players improve a great deal their second year and I look for Ryan to, perhaps, play less but contribute more.
Mike Rabinovich-- Big guy--he'll be pressed into service early with Louth stuck north of the border. I'm guessing he's been in the weight room regularly the past few months. I think he will be able to contribute more than Verbeek did--not a slam on BV, but I think Mike will be better.
Malcolm Townsell-- I think we'll see more of him than some may think - he's got college experience even if it's at the Juco level.
We lose a great talent in Joe Pridgen (played 1,057 minutes) and a solid player in Connor Niego (922 minutes) and the really talented Drew Lowder, but he played only 316 minutes in the early part of the season. We pick up Gerrale Gates, a proven college player, and some exciting freshmen.
The real wild cards are team chemistry (why did so many players leave? We'll likely never know) and coaching. Can Brett Nelson and his assistants put in place an effective offense and an effective defense, motivate the players and improve their skill sets, and make the right in-game decisions?

Team Chemistry has to be better. Last year none of the players other than Reilly chose the coach. This year all the newcomers have and the returners all chose to stay when others left.
I always thought Faw was what you would get if you called central casting and requested a Patriot League big man. I hope the coaches have taught him how to avoid fouls so he can put everything together and have a dominant senior season. Butler is a proven scorer and should have a great year now that he is healthy. Wade's year of experience is invaluable but playing the 2 position he should be a threat to score from anywhere not just three point land and his .291 three point shooting percentage only increased to .307 from everywhere. If he plays less it will mean the team is better, which will be positive for all.

Martindale will be interesting. I talked to a guy last year who had seen a lot of WA and he was pretty bullish on Martindale’s ability to contribute as a Frosh.

Also agree with KY that Wade should be able to take a big step forward this year and show a more diverse offensive game. I think he’s very talented and should be more comfortable with a year of experience and physical maturity under his belt.

Prior to the start of the season KenPom's computer forecasted us to go 3-13 in the regular season. After losing to BU it went down to 2-14. Now it has us at 5-11

Through four games, the shortcomings I see from not playing an OOC schedule, are that the freshmen underappreciated the speed of the college game and how the court becomes 'smaller' because of quicker players with longer arms, e.g., passing lanes that were there in high school are no longer there; and making passes that the player on the receiving end was not expecting.

Conversely, I'm hoping that chopping out that part of the season might help the freshmen avoid hitting "The Wall" in February.
The most impressive thing for me thus far is that the team has twice seized control of close games down the stretch. That has to make the coaching staff feel pretty good right now.

Before we get too excited, going into this and looking at the schedule and more specifically, our "pod," I expected we'd win these two against Army but that we'd lose both to BU and be 2-2. So, for me, we won a game I thought we'd lose and lost a game that I thought we'd win. If we can split with Colgate this coming weekend, I'll start getting optimistic. Win them both and I'll recommend Nelson get a Medal of Freedom instead of Belichick.

Maybe. But the veterans have more average turnovers than the freshmen.
