Is it a cost reason that the entire team isn’t traveling or does Chesney want only those who are dressing to be on the road for fear of distractions with those who wouldn’t be going through things such as Thursday walk-through, film session, etc.?

We're playing in the FCS quarterfinals and whether the 5th string punter travels is the main issue?

The minimum of 60 rooms likely includes rooms for coaches, trainers, equipment managers, etc., so the traveling party can be quite large. Hotels/motels in King of Prussia, where I suspect the team would stay cost about $125 a night for a party of two.
Villanova would have reserved the rooms once the seedings were official.
If the claim that you can only dress 62 is true, that's 31 rooms, leaving 29 rooms for the traveling party.

This is where President Vince steps in and begins to build his legacy by pulling a rabbit (a few grand) out of a hat (another budget or reserve) but only if he and his team are in touch with what is happening throughout the school, and he understands the value that a winning program brings to HC.
I hope he's sent out a tweet about Saturday's dramatic come from behind victory.

That's a possibility. Bill Belichick has a phrase about no fly sleep and eat players on a road trip or something like that. Good point. Maybe sports cliche #83, "This is a business trip" applies.

The entire team traveled to Fordham and to SDSU. I think before anyone sends a missive off to Vince Rougeau, the very reliable source ought to be someone who heard Chesney say this, and not a football player who heard it from another football player who heard it from a team manager, and so on. We were told that HC was bringing in temporary lights for the Sacred Heart game, and there were none.

While it’s true that the entire team traveled to Fordham, one bus left on game day morning and didn’t involve an overnight stay for those players. Perhaps HC will end up doing the same this week, but I would think it would not be all that much of an added expense to secure 10 extra rooms to have the entire team travel together. Again, it’s the poor optics that I was raising. The SDSU trip is a good example of what is possible.

2020, since you are the poster who said a reliable source said the entire team is not traveling to Villanova, can you get that corroborated from a second, equally reliable source? Frankly, this doesn't sound like Holy Cross and if true would likely torpedo the effort and work of the Gridiron Club, many of whom would be happy to contribute if there is an expense issue.

Thirteen days rest vs six and no travel for 'Nova. We've got 'em right where we want 'em, fat and happy vs lean and hungry.

I agree with hc2020. They all should be going. That said - my freshman year we all made the trip to Army. About 30 of us went on game day morning. None of those 30 were considering transferring because we didn't spend the night there. Yes, it should be done, no argument. But to say "that alone is reason for a coach or player to leave" is a stretch to me. Even if they weren't allowed to be there.
I fully understand that we are in a different era of football regarding transferring with the portal which is a whole other argument. But that being a reason? I don't buy it. Again - I agree, all players should be going.

I thought a bit more about the matter of whether 90+ players travel to Villanova, or only 60+ do.
* I don't think this is a matter of several thousand $ and the college is just being cheap. Chesney could easily call on generous boosters of the program and have them pick up the tab if it were several thousand $.
* I am 98% certain the AD's budget includes a contingency reserve for unanticipated costs. If the contingency was one percent, it is about $300,000, two percent would be about $600,000.
* I do not know how much of the contingency reserve was used for the bid to host in the first round. I recall reading a story about Southeastern Louisiana University, and that no school could ever top their bid because it was always so high. The HC bid may have been substantial, as there was no guaranty in advance that the opponent would be a thin wallet school like Sacred Heart.
* The matter of a Friday night game. Does Chesney want to pay for a second night in Philly, or have the team bus back to campus and arrive at 4 or 5AM? If HC were to beat 'Nova, the disruption in Circadian rhythm could easily affect preparations for the next opponent, which will be a long plane ride on Friday to SD or CA. If it was me, I would stay a second night to minimize the disruption. (Way back in the day, in manned missions to Mars, there were two options: long journey out, short trip back, or short trip out and long journey back. Which is better from a crew performance standpoint? Arthur Clarke's solution was to hibernate the astronauts in pods, where HAL was able to kill them.)
* The costs to HC of the game at Polar Park were already in the budget. As were the costs of renting Yankee Stadium for the home game against Fordham The rental cost for the latter was so substantial that HC put an explanatory note in its revenue and expenses report, possibly to avoid Title IX questions about spending so much for the boys compared to spending on the girls.
* IIRC, the additional operating expense costs to 'Nova in a year when they had a deep run into the FCS playoffs were $400,000 - $500,000. * If HC were to make the quarters, then I recall reading that any initial rounds cap on the number of players who dress is relaxed, and, if this is so, the NCAA would pick up the tab.
* I do not know whether cheerleaders are considered to be part of the traveling party. If HC sends cheerleaders, I expect they would be bussed on Friday.

PP - The team will definitely bus back to Worcester after the game. I think that is short sighted. Better to insist that they go back to the hotel and go to bed. Leave for Worcester after an 8:00 am breakfast with no "hangover" from trying to sleep sitting up in the bus necessitating a nap when then get back anyway.

As a very infrequent poster, I don't usually have much to say (obviously), but I enjoy the conversation. I am noticing that much of the Villanova "conversation" seems to be nervous energy. We are posting about which 4th stringers are making the trip, and whether or not the team will bus back to Worcester immediately after the game, or the next morning. We are also talking about circadian rhythms and sleep cycles and other things that have never came up before. I do want to say something that I think is important -- isn't this fun being able to be worried about these things in the 2nd round of the playoffs!?!? We have a team that, on any given weekend, will compete at a high level. We have a team that exceeded expectations rather than falling short of them. We have a team that is about to play the #5 team in the country, and we honestly believe (and rightfully so) they have a chance to win. As JT said in the Telegram last week -- the players don't want this season to end, and neither do I. And for the first time in recent memory, we actually have a chance to play further into December. I just wanted to let everyone know how much fun I've been having this season -- I hope it's been the same for all of you.

Hey longsuffering check out what "President Vince" had to say about the game he watched from the Prez box on Saturday on the Holy Cross College Twitter account. I don't remember Burroughs saying a thing about any sport during his time in the Prez box. By the way Presidents of colleges don't organize bus trips for football games that's usually done by the AD at the school or in our case the Co-AD's.
