Well, visits to my doctor prove that I am shrinking every day. When Coach Chesney told me that I am taller than him (I am not, he was just being polite), I told him that when I was his age I WAS taller than him but not now. π Somehow, despite me falling apart in some areas; I still measure out at 5'10" and was never officially taller.

The "escape hatch" is to win. BC has shown that with the right coach it is possible. Good debate point- is the furthest advance of a PL school in football (Colgate) worth more than the same in basketball (Bucknell & Lehigh's upsets of Kansas and Duke, resp.)? And in which sport is a repeat of that success more achievable?

I think the Muscala's, McCollum's and even our own Malcolm Miller jump ship in today's transfer-portal/NIL hoop world. Whereas, as Chez has shown , a PL football team can be very relevant at the national level. PL is really up against it in a lot of ways in 2023-4 hoop.

How many people in let's say Ohio know that Holy Cross is a five time Patriot League champion? How many know Colgate has won the conference tournament four straight years? I think they recognize Colgate's name more...

I was picking a random state....I think people pay much more attention to the NCAA Hoops tournament with the mid majors over the FCS Championship

Football might make us more known in Montana and the Dakotas though! Probably Virginia, too, but JMU bolting for FBS doesn't help. And, you can cross Delaware off the list.

Nobody in Virginia cares about JMU...except people who went to JMU lol. No, but they were very aware of the FCS playoffs. Not like they are in Montana or the Dakotas. Very different. In those states, the FCS football programs get the lion's share of the media attention. And during the FCS playoffs, you'll hear all about predictions, snubs, bracket breakdown, etc. on sports talk radio. In Virginia, 99% of the sports fan band-with is directed towards the Commanders, Virginia Tech football and UVA basketball. Even Liberty nobody cares outside of the evangelical haven of Lynchburg. JMU alumni base has gotten VERY into the football program since the mid-2000's. They've drawn very well in basketball whenever they're good -- Lefty Driesel era during the 1990's and of course now. JMU alum who didn't care about school sports when they were there are now all about it. But the school definitely doesn't have many "subway alumni" outside Harrisonburg, unlike schools like Montana and Montana State. 95% of college sports fans in Virginia, outside of Fairfax County and Charlottesville, support Virginia Tech. UVA alumni base the strongest around DC. W&M - fan base very similar to Holy Cross. Very loyal, travel well, proud of their history, combination of alumni base and some local support. ODU - big basketball following historically, they sold out every home football game their first 5 or 6 years but they've become a bit jaded, even with the move to FBS. And the basketball fan base definitely misses being in a league with VCU and George Mason. Richmond - kind of like Villanova in the sense that basketball very much overshadows what's a very good FCS football program. Locally, people view UR as a bunch of rich kids from NY and NJ so no one in the area that didn't go there really cares about the football team. But overall, I would still say JMU, Liberty, W&M, Richmond, ODU, Hampton, Norfolk State etc. in Virginia are competing for maybe a combined 5 % of the aggregate "sports fan mind share" if you will.

PL had another lousy night (not considering Colgate's win over Vermont St Lyndon - who ?) AU lost to St. Joe's BU lost at home to Maine (sound familiar?) Loyola led by 11 with 5 minutes left and scored 1 pt the rest of the way and lost at LaSalle 62-61
I know we have our imme issues with the football coach but this league is really in some trouble - all around

And most of them were wide-open looks. Struggling right now, big time.

So Vermont State Lyndon is the old Lyndon State and the same thing with Vermont State Castleton
