Not advocating a move out of the PL here.....but there really seems to be something really amiss with this league men's hoop-wise....how can it be this bad??? At its best, the PL is an okay to mediocre LM conference. Add to that five new head coaches this year (I'm counting McGarvey at Lafayette as new even though he got the interim job late last season), a slew of transfers at Army, Bucknell and Lafayette, BU taking a step back after losing Whyte, Harper and Brittain-Watts to graduation, and it's a perfect storm of awful. AU falls today at Virginia Tech, 77-55. Matt Rogers didn't play (sprained ankle). Add it to the list.

Colgate getting doubled up on at the half by Iona, 48-24. Army is the only hope to avoid an 0-7 day.

AWP comes through for the league with a surprise road win at UTSA 63-53 Amazing that Army’s football team also upset UTSA this season

I mean, it is what it is.....but schools with the reputations academically/national brands like Army, Navy, Colgate, Holy Cross, Bucknell, BU. Lehigh etc shouldn't be struggling as much as they are versus other mid-major or low-mid-major basketball conferences, no?
The Ivies seem to be doing fairly well hoop-wise,......what are we doing wrong and is it correctable?

Another example of the utter futility of the PL this season - as we approach the end of Dec. there are 3 teams who have still not notched their first D.1 victory: Lafayette, Lehigh and Loyola. Hard to fathom. As I have stated before, there needs to be an emergency meeting of the AD's (Presidents welcome) to do a deep dive into this league's performance across many sports

Hard to fathom. Two out of three anyway. Loyola beat Brown early in the year. While NAD might not want to categorize Brown as a D1 program, I think the NCAA does. It may not be D1, but at least Dr. Reed was able to beat Cairn University, the #326 D3 team, by 55 points.

All I know is I ain't buying any kid a car to get him to come/stay. Maybe a $25 Amazon gift card, but that's it. Not only are my pockets not deep, they are sewn shut. Some of you rich guys are going to have to foot the bill to get some 5 stars here......
Seriously, unless the sport goes back to being actual college basketball, expect the struggles to continue for the PL.

PL non-con winning % vs D1 teams is 20%. Only the SWAC is lower at 15 and change.

The people running the NIT need to realize that, other than fans associated with the participating teams, the only people watching their games - in person or on TV - are the true basketball fans who still care about seeing quality mid-major teams take on the big name schools and pull off a fair number of upsets.

Do fans of a power conference school who end up on the wrong side of the bubble get excited enough about the consolation prize that is the NIT to really support it? On the other hand, a mid major school might support a little better. When HC went to the NIT in 2005, there was no regular season champ rule. HC went based on their body of work

Maybe not excited, but if the attendances of these average-weak PC 6 was not significantly higher than their mid to low major counterparts, the NCAA would not have changed the policy. As in many things, it is all about the Benjamins.

As requested, here is Massey's Ranking of the PL men as we start league play: 157 Colgate 6-7 (SoS = 58) 281 American Univ 6-7 (SoS = 252) 284 Navy 4-7 (SoS = 299) 290 Boston Univ 5-8 (SoS = 260) 306 Bucknell 3-10 (SoS = 78) 311 Lehigh 3-8 (SoS = 225) 337 Army 4-9 (SoS = 357) 350 Lafayette 1-12 (SoS = 115) 352 Loyola MD 2-11 (SoS = 246) 358 Holy Cross 3-10 (SoS = 307) Overall PL = 37-89 Out of 362 rated D1 teams) I guess that victory over D3 Wilkes gave Lafayette quite a boost.

If I had to bet (which I don't), I would say Colgate and American should be locks for spots in the top 4. After that, to me the rest of the league is up for grabs. When BU is good, they have looked very good. But they've had some terrible games as well.
For HC, I am hoping that the frosh make the transition into sophomores later in the year. I went through the other teams' stats, and here is what I came up with in regards to freshmen minutes:
HC - 1,113 Army - 1,051 BU - 755 Lafayette - 743 Lehigh - 449 American - 442 Colgate - 441 Navy - 295 Bucknell - 118 Loyola - 80
Is Hardy ever going to be on the hot seat? I feel like they should be better than their record, and they are not depending on freshmen at all.
Colgate looked awful very early in their game yesterday. Maybe they will turn it on later as they often have, but I'm thinking they have dropped a bit. I'm also wondering why Langel has gone with the twin tower approach of Records and Woodward, when I don't remember him doing this in the previous 3 years. Is it because he just believes playing them together is putting his 5 best players on the floor? Just seems strange to do that out of the blue.
