As requested, here is Massey's Ranking of the PL men as we start league play: 157 Colgate 6-7 281 American Univ 6-7 284 Navy 4-7 290 Boston Univ 5-8 306 Bucknell 3-10 311 Lehigh 3-8 337 Army 4-9 350 Lafayette 1-12 352 Loyola MD 2-11 358 Holy Cross 3-10 Overall PL = 37-89 I guess that victory over D3 Wilkes gave Lafayette quite a boost. Teams not named BU, AU, Navy and Colgate finished 8-60 vs D1.

Why such selective stats? The one thing that stands out to me is that not one PL team has a winning record at this point.

So Colgate is okay and every other team stinks. The league has NEVER been this bad top to bottom.

When you look at these rankings along with the women’s ranking on that thread the only conclusion one can draw is that this league is in big trouble - this pathetic performance cannot continue - we need an intervention by the league higher-ups

When you look at these rankings along with the women’s ranking on that thread the only conclusion one can draw is that this league is in big trouble - this pathetic performance cannot continue - we need an intervention by the league higher-ups what sort of league intervention will significantly improve the league's bball performance? Unless someone finances much higher pay levels it will be difficult to attract coaches who can convince better recruits to come. Even Colgate's anomalistic run is waning. I'm past the "call a meeting, form a committee, interview the ..., make recommendations" stage. The league works very well for the noncompetitive sports but not particularly well for sports most people care about so it will remain a problem in search of an answer. I think the only hope is that at least 3 schools contemporaneously get good recruits that win against non league competitive teams and create a respectable awareness of league play and image. The old AU, Bucknell, HC troika and that was more about the individual coaches and schools not really the league.

Interesting point, hcnj. I see HC recruiting picking up already. Now if a few other schools can also do this we could be well on our way. I don't know enough about our up and coming head coaches to see if this is likely to happen soon.

If I had to bet (which I don't), I would say Colgate and American should be locks for spots in the top 4. After that, to me the rest of the league is up for grabs. When BU is good, they have looked very good. But they've had some terrible games as well. For HC, I am hoping that the frosh make the transition into sophomores later in the year. I went through the other teams' stats, and here is what I came up with in regards to freshmen minutes: HC - 1,113 Army - 1,051 BU - 755 Lafayette - 743 Lehigh - 449 American - 442 Colgate - 441 Navy - 295 Bucknell - 118 Loyola - 80 Is Hardy ever going to be on the hot seat? I feel like they should be better than their record, and they are not depending on freshmen at all. Colgate looked awful very early in their game yesterday. Maybe they will turn it on later as they often have, but I'm thinking they have dropped a bit. I'm also wondering why Langel has gone with the twin tower approach of Records and Woodward, when I don't remember him doing this in the previous 3 years. Is it because he just believes playing them together is putting his 5 best players on the floor? Just seems strange to do that out of the blue. I think I share your AU optimism, but far from certain. We were up 70-48 at UMBC Friday with 12 minutes left, in what was the best 30-minute stretch of play for us all season. Played great defense, made a bunch of 3s. We wound up winning...87-85. We gave up 37 points in 12 minutes!! And we probably held on only because Lorenzo Donadio made a miracle save on an inbounds pass that was heading out of bounds with us up two with 10 seconds remaining, and passed it to an open AU player up the court while falling out of bounds. We could be 8-5, as we were ahead late against Georgetown and St. Francis. But, just as with UMBC, we barfed a big lead away within a matter of minutes. So, I don't know. We're talented, but our mental...geesh.

Why such selective stats? The one thing that stands out to me is that not one PL team has a winning record at this point. Perhaps the fact HC has 10 games against conference foes that were 6 and 50 against D1 opponents. HC needs to win a lot of those 10 to have a shot at a respectable record.
