I’ve watched one women’s hockey game all season and I’m glad it was tonight: a shootout win for the women vs. Providence after a dramatic video review.
Defense stood on its head for 60 minutes. Goalie Beck stood on her head for 60+ minutes. Beautiful!

HC struggling with close losses, but did pick up two Turnpike Trophy wins vs BU against one loss so far this season. Thank you women skaters!

LS, exactly how many purple tinted glasses do you own ? seriously, the kind of attitude you express above is pretty typical of a lot of HC athletic administrators, i.e., they really don't care much about results, and that's why you see so many of our programs having losing season after losing season.

I favor serious and effective management of all the head coaching contracts, but especially the ones in the five sports that are funding the max amount of scholarships. I don't believe in bashing coaches and players who are doing the best they can. Women's hockey is particularly hard to judge because it is a move up from a D-3 league to Hockey East which is the only league any HC team plays in that is at a significant higher level than other D-1 leagues. Women's Hockey East is a level above the NEWHA which is not exactly but somewhat similar to Men's Hockey East being a level above the AHA. Mr. Foley would be more knowledgeable about those quality of play relationships. I have no doubt that if the timing had been right and the NEWHA had existed and HC chose them over the Big East when they moved up to D-1 that HC would be in strong contention for the NEWHA league championship. Whether that would have been the right choice is debatable and if HC can start to compete in H.E. then joining that league will have been well worth it. I think it's possible, with Coach Riga's turn-around of Men's Hockey as a blueprint. Whenever the contract is up, giving another Women's hockey head coach a chance looks logical at this point. Regarding Women's hockey winning two Turnpike Trophy games, I am very appreciative because I would like to see HC win "Pine's Folly" one of these years.

I don’t believe we are funding 18 scholarships for women’s hockey (at least yet). No reason to keep the coach as long as we have based on these results if the program was fully funded. HE Women’s hockey is a distant 3rd in league strength. We should be more competitive if the program is fully funded. Riga has some hurdles too in terms of facilities, but he has 18 scholarships and has been able to use the transfer portal to enhance the roster. Now that we are winning, better recruits are starting to commit.

Everybody gets a trophy where you come from Not Holy Cross. We are O since inception in the Turnpike Trophy race. That trophy, a mounted piece of macadam I believe,🙂 has never been west of Rte. 128.

This year, HE is definitely down. Not sure why, but BC and Northeastern had some great seasons in recent memory making it to the final before losing. I think BU also had a couple of finals appearances. With the strength of the WCHA, it would be hard to reach that level, but I see no reason why the ECAC is so much stronger the last few years. Clarkson is a powerhouse and Colgate is back after a few down years.
New coach and fully funded schollies will be a great help

MBB, WBB, Women's Hockey are 1-0, 1-0, 2-1 against B.U. so far this winter. A victory is not un-achievable.

And Football and Baseball have not lost to BU in the last two decades…… And probably not often before that except for the period when "the Golden Greek" Harry Agganis was patrolling the Diamond and the Gridiron. The Boston Braves left Braves Field, now Nickerson Field in 1953 and the Boston Patriots arrived in 1960. Now it is a FIFA approved facility. BU has been adaptable in managing that valuable urban acre playing surface. Football and baseball programs would be a rounding error in B.U.'s budget and are PL sports. Why they demur is puzzling. Even though basketball was created a few exits down the Mass Pike in Springfield, it's football and baseball that remain the two most quintessential American sports not widely adopted internationally and the conference is named the "Patriot League." Oh well, even a "Cafeteria Patriot Leaguer" nearby is convenient.

Does the win tonight count as a Turnpike Trophy win and gives HC a boast? Of course. It better. It might put us in the lead for the 2023-24 trophy if it does. Crusaders advance. Terriers are sent to the pound. Historic win. When was the last time MBB won a playoff game? Congratulations to coaches and team.

Does the win tonight count as a Turnpike Trophy win and gives HC a boast? Split with them in soccer, HC won the women's game, BU won the men's game. Pretty much guaranteed 2 or 3 losses in softball- BU is very good, PL or no PL.

Pretty much guaranteed 2 or 3 losses in softball- BU is very good, PL or no PL. Fortunately each school has one softball team but two BB teams. Let's win out against the Terriers, regular season and tournament in M&W BB.
