1. My home town is in deep mourning after the Brazilians lost. 2. If Netherlands/Argentina was a nasty game. Cannot believe no one was red carded and/or collected a second yellow (which becomes a red). I understand why perhaps one doesn't want a team gaining a big advantage by having the other team play short; but how do you allow players to come off the bench and get in a shoving match (and at least one Netherlands player did it TWICE, once coming from 50 yards away)? Ejecting those players are "freebies", they don't count against the number of people you can put on the field. Because the ref also allowed the Argentine player who incited that fracas (I think it was Paredes) to go relatively unpunished. The tackle alone was worthy of a yellow, and then firing the ball directly at the Netherlands bench should have been a red by itself, and easily another yellow. There is no way Paredes should have been allowed to remain on the pitch after that display, so only punishing the Netherlands players who reacted would be grossly unfair.

That would have been more true 20 years ago. Only 11 European nations, out of more than 45, rank ahead of the U.S. in FIFA's rankings. U.S. is ahead of all of eastern Europe (except Croatia) and all of Scandinavia. Also well ahead of Scotland and Ireland.. Ranking in this case may not matter. Speaking with some European fans, they were unaware that the US had organized soccer in secondary schools. When I explained that almost every secondary school had a soccer team their question was typically..."Then why aren't their Cup teams better?" TJhdere is still (regardless ofgtalent) a long-standing distain for US soccer (OK, football) teams throughout the FIFA world. I have a hard time believing that these are very informed fans that you're speaking to. In addition to the rankings, there are more USMNT players playing in the top UEFA leagues than ever before -- Pulisic, McKinnie, Adams, Aaronson, Reyna, Dest, Robinson, Weah, and Musah are all key contributors if not outright starters for clubs in the EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Serie A. The US team is still very young, but there's a great foundation that could pay big dividends in '26.

Well, Clemens is often mentioned, but he was pretty good before the steroid period. Could the steroids have extended his high quality skills ? That’s a good one. Likely extended his career and made him better as an “older” player than he would have been otherwise. I just don’t think the roids had much of an impact on pitching overall and don’t really buy that the hitters cheating and the pitchers cheating kind of washes out. Yeah I think Bonds and Clemens are perfect comparisons. Both were Hall of Famers before they started juicing, which greatly elongated their careers and gave them unnatural performances at ages when most players are slowing down if not retired. Clemens even seemed to be on that natural decline when he left Boston in '96 at the age of 33, and then "somehow" proceeded to put together another decade that was almost as dominant, if not moreso, than his first. When a player is significantly better at 42 than he was at 32, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what's happening.

I have firsthand, secondhand, third-hand? knowledge that Randy Johnson was using on the Yankees too. Remember, there was no clear evidence that Bonds ever "tested positive" and was caught by anybody at MLB. Not that they were likely looking at the time... But outside of who has been caught more recently, like '92 was mentioning, it's probably safer to assume that many used back then, and not all had to be nobodies to heroes. Plenty of people who had talent could have augmented it, or at least kept it longer than natural, by juicing. Bonds tested positive in 2003, the year the testing was supposed to be anonynous but list ultimately got leaked in 2009. But he never violated MLB drug policy. Even if Bonds never officially tested positive, that's like saying that Tua cleared concussion protocol in Week 3. Ok, fine, but we also have eyes and common sense.

Sure, but what if both DeGrom and Judge simply want to play elsewhere and it is not about money? Both guys are treated as borderline gods in New York. The odds of either playing elsewhere for something other than money seem astronomically small.

The most fascinating thing about that flyout last night wasn't that it was the hardest and furthest hit ball in a game that had three actual home runs. It's that somehow John Stirling was the only person in the ballpark to not lose his mind as soon as it was hit. Funny. I was wondering how he called it. Compared to the Fox crew:

Suspended for the season, at least. His statement which mentioned only regret for the team may not help him, though it may be for possible legal protection. I've also seen some speculate that the suspension vs. outright firing may be to avoid the possibility of a wrongful termination lawsuit. Seems both sides are keeping thing close to the vest. The relationship had previously been called consensual, but the Athletic is now reporting that the female subordinate had accused him of unwanted comments, which is what prompted the internal investigation. If true, man, good on the Celtics. Given last year's success and the rosy future, most organizations would have swept this under the rug and not disrupted the team. It's nice to know that professional success isn't always going to let guys get away with being creeps.

Judge was within a couple of feet of a walk off for #61 in the bottom of the 9th last night. He was 0-2 with 3 walks. Here’s the batting average race: Judge 169/535 = .31589 Bogaerts 164/523 =.31358 Arraez 161/515 = .31262 The most fascinating thing about that flyout last night wasn't that it was the hardest and furthest hit ball in a game that had three actual home runs. I'm amazed there has not been a word about the role of Micky Mantle in the Maris record. They were back and forth all season, but IIRC an injury to the Mick late in the season had him sidelined for a bit setting the stage for Maris. I had been rooting for Mantle, bu was thrilled to see Maris take the crown when Mantle couldn't. I wonder how much having Mantle in there helped Maris get 61. I wasn't alive so interested to know thoughts... I would have guessed the opposite. Mantle was already a Yankee legend/beloved, so the fans were probably hoping he'd get the crown and NOT Maris. Wasn't Maris' hair falling out and there was intense pressure and angst on him? Once Mantle goes down and he's no longer an option, I still wonder how many fans would rather Maris breath Ruth's record rather than the baton being grabbed by Mantle, even if it meant a Yankee still held the title. Yeah, this is how I've always heard the story as well, including in the 61* movie that Billy Crystal did. Maris went through a lot of the same type of BS that newer Yankees go through today -- the whole "not a TRUE Yankee" narrative that was only made worse because it was a beloved Yankee's record that they were chasing, and most wanted another beloved Yankee to be the one to break it rather than the outsider. And in true NY fan fashion, they made life miserable for their own player rather than helping to lift him up.

Triple Crown is indisputable. I'd rather Judge take that. He's already hit 60 dingers, a ridiculous feat. But, many can argue--either plausible or preposterous-- that the single season HR hitters were on PEDs but playing against juiced pitchers, never touched the stuff, or hit against worse players, and on and on. The only way Judge can take the HR crown above debate is to hit 74, like Tom said. I think it's unlikely he gets that far. All of this is moot if the Yankees lose in the first playoff series and Judge walks in October. He's not signed. I have zero confidence he's coming back. He took in the moment yesterday at Yankee Stadium as if he'd never play there again. If it was prescient appreciation, then good for his wisdom. But it was almost like he was taking his last sips of a good scotch.Ohtani already won an MVP. He does something that is rare on a weekly basis, but at least for when I was growing up, the best players on my baseball team pitched, and played SS or CF. We specialize as we get older, and I know, I know, it is at the MLB level-- world class-- but it's not impossible to be a complete BASEBALL player in my mind. Ohtani also doesn't play every day due to that same fact that he pitches, DHs, needs rest, etc. Bury that argument if I sound silly: Ohtani's team is still in the cellar, lost their coach, etc. Judge's team is in first place. If you put Judge on the Angels, I argue they'd have more wins. If you take Ohtani off the Angels, they're still in the cellar. If you take Judge off the Yankees, they might have as bad, or worse, record than the Angels. Uncle Stevie gonna be coming in like Scrooge McDuck this offseason

Here comes a real debate Ohtani should be the AL MVP No. Judge should I'll take it a step further. He didn't deserve it last year either. If there was an award for Most Outstanding Player, Ohtani should have won it last year. The name of the award is Most VALUABLE Player. As is often quoted here, if we can lose with you, we can lose without you. If your team is mathematically eliminated before Labor Day, you didn't add that much to your team. You weren't that valuable. Ohtani's teams are playing meaningless games right now. If he weren't on the team, they'd still be playing meaningful games. Where would the 2022 Yankees be without Judge? This is why the name MVP is stupid. Why should the best player theoretically be penalized because the team around him sucks? No one says that the best pitcher shouldn't win the Cy Young if he's on a losing team. Just call it Player of the Year and do away with these semantic arguments. EDIT: I'll take this a step further. One of Nick Plummer's 31 plate appearances this season resulted in a game-tying 9th inning home run against the Phillies back in May, with the Mets going on to win in 10. Now, if the Mets win the division by a single game or via tiebreaker, you can point to that moment and say "Where would the Mets be without Nick Plummer?" Using your logic, doesn't that make him a better MVP candidate than every single player on non-playoff teams?

One sad note for New Yorkers is that Joan Hodges, Gil’s widow, just passed away at age 95. It’s nice that she got to see him make the Hall. I believe she still lived in the same Brooklyn house where she and Gil lived when he was a Dodger Papa Metsfan will be devastated. He grew up a few blocks from the Hodges, went to the same parish, and was grade school friends with their daughter. Only met Gil once or twice, but always says that Joan was an incredibly nice and friendly woman.

Max with 6 perfect innings coming back from an injury, along with an Alonso three run dinger, clinches the first playoff appearance in 6 years for the Mets. Knocking out reigning Cy Young award winner Corbin Burnes in the process. It's amazing how quickly Cohen has been able to wash the stench of the Wilpons off this team.

He’s had 30 starts in four seasons and won’t make a dozen this year. He’s 34 and has just 82 career wins . I know that he’s likely more interested in pennants than in the HOF but he’d have to pitch until 40 to post a HOF resume.I hope he does. Look at what Verlander is doing in his late 30’s Well for starters, wins are fortunately no longer taken seriously as a metric of a pitcher's worth, because otherwise he'd have been punished for his historically poor luck and run support. 21 wins total in back-to-back Cy Young seasons (not exactly close calls either -- he was one vote away from being unanimous both times). Completely disagree about the HOF standards you're setting for him too. 2-3 more seasons of being a top-3 pitcher in the league is enough given what he's already accomplished, and that's not hard to imagine given how much better he is than everyone else.

One of Jacob DeGrom’s most amazing stats (including last night) this year: 4 (!!) Walks and 86 Strikeouts. A tremendously talented pitcher-I just wish he could stay healthy and get a few years with 30 starts His injuries are a recent development. Don't forget that he won back to back Cy Youngs, and you don't do that without staying healthy. He had 30+ starts in 5 of 6 straight years after his rookie season, and then didn't miss a start in the pandemic-shortened season either. That's seven seasons where he didn't miss any extended period of time outside of a September injury in 2016.

The only good change is the pitch clocks. The shift ban and the pickoff rules are perfect examples of Manfred missing the forest for the trees.
At least the Minor League players union will likely get approved. The level of exploitation that exists in the minors is one of the worst possible things for the growth of the game because as it currently stands, the only way to play minor league baseball and be financially solvent is to get drafted high and sign a good first contract. Pretty tough to convince anyone to take a chance on their dream of the majors if they can't even make ends meet while doing it.

The judge denied the LIV players’ request for a temporary restraining order to play in the Fed Ex playoffs finding that they could not prove irreparable harm given the huge money they have been paid. More interestingly, it looks like the big payouts are really advances against future earnings. The contracts were not made public but a lawyer made reference to this fact. That's news to me. Who'd have thought that signing contracts to be paid in Saudi blood oil money would have a downside??

Remember, fish always stink from the head . . . Always.
Given that this board clearly no longer has a rule regarding politics, perhaps those who care about hearing from highly credible whistleblowers rather than standard political hacks and their MSM accomplices across the entire political spectrum may appreciate reading the following regarding our federal law enforcement agencies:
www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/whistleblowers-reports-reveal-double-standard-in-pursuit-of-politically-charged-investigations-by-senior-fbi-doj-officials
Think it is just the SEC, Wall Street self-regulator FINRA, the FBI and DOJ which are the only regulatory oversight and law enforcement agencies meaningfully captured and corrupted? Come on, really? We can add the MSM to the mix as well. Any surprise why the general public no longer trusts?
It is this corruption and regulatory capture why I always try to look at situations through the lens of NOT Right v Left but rather Right v Wrong and massively discount messaging from those with very real conflicts of interest.
Why are this story and its implications so important? This journalist nails it: FBI Jeopardized National Security: thefederalist.com/2022/07/26/fbi-jeopardized-national-security-by-calling-verified-hunter-biden-evidence-disinformation-whistleblowers-say/
Recommendation: SERIOUSLY question any and all pronouncements and never blindly take the bait, i.e. the BS, put out by these agencies and their friends.
Back to Crusader Football, 90Wide and winning on and off the field for me.
Let's Win!!
#frauds #corruption #regulatorycapture I'm so confused. You disparage "standard political hacks" and encourage people to read about "highly credible whistleblowers," and then link a press release from Chuck Grassley's office? What's next, encouraging people to read peer-reviewed scientific studies and then linking a 'Moms against vaccines' Facebook group?

I can't tell if you're being deliberately obtuse or just incapable of comprehending, but she only rejected two because they were SUBJECTS OF THE INVESTIGATION. Should a judge be allowed to preside over their own corruption trial? Of course not. Even thought Cheney and Kinzinger don't "count" as republicans for Trump/hcpride because they have the audacity to think for themselves, does it matter to you that nearly every witness, including those who've described Trump's efforts to delay the counting and "find" more votes in spite of there being no evidence of fraud, are Republicans as well? Bill Barr doesn't count? The Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania Speakers of the House don't count? So for you, anyone who criticizes Trump, or even just testifies honestly under oath about illegal things that Trump did, isn't really a Republican and is not to be taken seriously. You're really telling on yourself here, dude. Clime I share your opinion. But, you are wasting your time on a provocateur who over the years has a pattern of posting for the purpose of getting attention, from postings about the superiority of Villanova over HC, to equating the flu with Covid, to our painful polarization and currently the attempted violent coup. Truth is his foreign enemy. Presently, you are dealing with an extremist right wing cultist whose words are a reflection of a particular type of emotional landscape. There is little of rational substance. Your words, my words do not matter. My advice: Best to ignore him as many do. Don't feed him with a response. Let him prattle on. Don't even read the silliness. I am trying to follow my own advice and not get sucked into the vortex. Wash, rinse, repeat. Peace. Wise words. Ignore the troll.
