Caitlin Clark's counterpart in music for the past year or so is Taylor Swift. I admire the way Swift built her business and has kept her fans and how much joy they get from following her. I'll give Clark a couple of years to see if young girls are lining up at the turnstyles when her WNBA team comes to their region. Maybe it's not a fair comparison. The WNBA plays 40 games a year and Swift only tours once every few years. The idea of legions of young girl fans (and their families) jamming the turnstiles to watch women’s hoops has been the WNBA’s dream since it began. Somehow, despite some very popular college players, it hadn’t consistently materialized. Some poor choices and poor messaging by the WNBA accounts for a part of that. They need an appealing star and, with any luck, the leading pros in the WNBA can appreciate that they themselves will benefit from CC’s success - but I’m not so sure. Always thought WNBA playing in the spring/summer hurt their reach. I understand arena availability, tv windows, etc. There's something to be said that sports should be played in their seasons. It'll probably never happen but would like to see how the WNBA would do if they played during traditional basketball season.

People can continue with excuses or HC could just figure it out.
It's too bad. College hockey is really exciting.

A logical worry. Coach LaChapelle was extended on the women's side I believe. It would be a shame if there is not enough left to reward and extend Coach Riga. Change the budget😇✝️ We have the dollars they just need to make the right investments Success costs money. Winning costs money. From what I see and know it HC is more than happy with a MDC-style rink and a twenty win season here and there. Success has many definitions and standards. Just have to select which form of success you want.

Why would she leave HC? I thought the women were selecting a school not a sports franchise as seemingly do some of the men. She's a senior. Some would say it's been four years, time for her to go....

Midwest is right. The ivies have their own built in NIL. They also have their own rules that they play by every year. This is why they don’t compete in the FCS football playoffs. Why their basketball teams can beat teams like Auburn and Arizona. I say this because I have first hand knowledge. Many years ago during my playing days I was offered an “ Ivy League “ football scholarship. How? They don’t have scholarships. Okay but large endowment dollars and wealthy friends of the program have always been there to support the programs. Welcome to the world of Ivy League sports. Oh boy. One the Ivy League Fan Club wakes up they're going to love this.

This can get back to the discussion of the NIL which is great work by those involved.
But...
Anyone else notice that it's the same four defending the honourable traits that the Ivy League holds?
Those that know, know the Ivies play at a great advantage. Those that don't pretend it's 1965 and Doonesbury is scoring TDs for Yale.
Oh and by the way....the Ivy League schools could care less about the PL. This admiration is Pearl Street.....one way.

The top 4/5 Ivy football programs have offered their best players $20-25k summer internships for years which consist of showing up to a corporate office for a few hours a week. Call that what you will. They don’t pay $ to their best players in the same way they happen to have ~70-80 Scholi equivalents despite being “non scholarship football” and don’t play in the football postseason cause it would interfere with academics and finals. All a bunch of BS optics. There are many on this board that will think everything you just typed is hogwash. That the precious Ivies would never play loose with the rules. Thank you for further enlightening those that need it.

Before the Luth HC players were forced to go to pro days at Harvard, BC, UConn, etc.
Now they come to Worcester. Facilities matter.

Sure, getting a championship back-to-back and going to the NCAA two straight years is embarrassing to the PL. In what world is that? When your back to back champ gets a play in game and your 'peer' league gets two in and a 12 seed for their second place team... if I'm the PL I'm embarrassed by the lack of respect. You're getting paired with a .500 team that got waxed in it's conference championship.

Second place Ivy gets a 12.... Back to back PL champ gets a play in game.
Sorry but the league should be embarrassed.
Good luck to the Crusaders.

The more Eastern FCS schools the better. The subdivision has been trending West for too long. It'll take time but need more competitive teams this way.

Let me tell you two Ivy stories. 1} Several years ago I heard a recruiter from an Ivy school quoted as saying with a wink to the father of a kid they were recruiting for football: "In the Ivies there are no athletic scholarships. Any scholarship is based on NEED only. And, if you are 6'6" 285, we NEED you." 2) A local 6'9" hooper bounced around to three different high schools. Some of movement was athletic based, much of it was because he was such a weak student. Several mid majors were interested in him. In the Spring of his senior year I ran into his mom at a HS playoff game and asked where her son was going to college. The response? "Harvard. How funny is that?" He was on the team for two years but logged few minutes and quit as a junior. But he actually graduated. The Ivies overall have pretty high standards for athletes but there are loads of exceptions to the rule. Those on this board who believe in the 'purity' of Ivy athletics, unicorns and leprechauns will chastise you for this post.

No one has every said H and Y weren't generous. I vigorously applaud schools that give outstanding financial aid. More should blow the dust off their checkbooks and follow HYP's lead. But when it comes to football ask any football coach that competes against the Ivies about their equivalency situation. It's well-above even FBS levels. They're a non-factor and basically invisible nationally in football so they just get away with it. The second the Ivy League says we're in on the FCS playoffs the CAA and western schools will demand the books be opened. If HC offers a full ride and Harvard wants that player most times than not the Johnnies will find a way to sweeten the pot. People can believe what they want about the 'purity' of the Ivy model but the Ivy model is to stockpile talent and win one game a year. Who from those leagues would do the demanding and who would they make the demand to, and why would any entity be authorized to release proprietary information and why would any league deserve expanded access beyond what NCAA rules require just because they are butt hurt? Don't mean to pile on but we compete strongly and fairly with the IL, more competitively than with PL weak sisters like Lafayette, er, uh, except last season.🙂 So we really can't fix something that isn't broken. I respect FCS coaches who work their butts off and knowledgeable fans like you but at a certain point it's just common sense that the Ivies and Service Academies don't need to give athletic scholarships because of their unique status and they compete above board under existing regulations. You can believe what you'd like. FCS coaches know darn well that the equivalencies at HYP are way, way, way above NCAA limits. That's fair? If you have the chance to talk with coaches they'll tell you they are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to recruiting against HYP. When it comes to the rest of the PL and the Ivies, I don't care. On the field HC has had much better coaching and that makes a huge difference.

I would say with a decent amount of confidence that when a Harvard coach enters a home they use the word 'scholarship' and not 'grant'. When you don't want to follow the rules you call things by different names as a technicality. Harvard and Yale FB must have horrific compliance records with the NCAA since they are not following the rules. In reality America's great Universities like the Ivies, MIT, Stanford etc., should generate national pride because they are the best in the world and they are in the USA. They may put up with a little plagiarism but I doubt they would tolerate persistent widespread rules violations in athletics. I think H&Y are generous to a fault to all students. No good deed goes unpunished. No one has every said H and Y weren't generous. I vigorously applaud schools that give outstanding financial aid. More should blow the dust off their checkbooks and follow HYP's lead. But when it comes to football ask any football coach that competes against the Ivies about their equivalency situation. You are so naive. I call a package that reduces out of pocket expenses from 60 K to 1.8 K a SCHOLARSHIP. Not naive at all. I have shared many times on this board that I am aware of the Ivies offering aid to athletes in the form of grants. My point here is if they change course and openly offer athletic scholarships, their programs will become even more appealing to student athletes. I would say with a decent amount of confidence that when a Harvard coach enters a home they use the word 'scholarship' and not 'grant'. When you don't want to follow the rules you call things by different names as a technicality.

Five Worcester area teams are in the State semifinals; Worcester North and South, Wachusett, West Boylston and Millbury. North (boys) and Wachusett (girls) in Div. 1. South (girls) in Div. 2. This has never happened before. Catholic Memorial will face Franklin in the semis. They defeated B.C. High. North Semi is at UMass Boston on Wednesday. Definitely some good high school ball being played in the Worcester area. North should repeat as champs Wachusett girls are always a wago with the potential to be undefeated state champs Millbury boys have IMO one of the best coaches in the state in Jimmy Donnelly. Best of luck to all.

Since Larry Lucchino ceased being a majority owner in December when the WooSox were sold, the new owners, a NY company, may not be much interested in the trouble and expense of hosting one football game a year. And with Luuchino out of the picture, there no longer is an association with HC, and the EBW Classic. Larry may no longer be majority owner but he is FAR from out of the picture. He probably owns more of the team now then he did before.

If I'm Dartmouth I'd cut Men's Basketball immediately after the season.
Not worth the impending headache for a team no one cares about.

How much do former players get involved in recruiting at their alma maters? Will our current NFL players and future NFL players assist with recruiting at all? Ever see the 30 for 30 on Marcus Dupree? Barry Switzer sent Billy Sims to Dupree's high school. Happens all the time.

I was told a pot of gold awaited HC in the BE. I glanced at the endowments of the current BE members. No pot of god. It seems there is no great financial reward with the BE. Also, HC would never be competitive in that league. Size & academic, & over emphasis rule it out. There is a pot of bad basketball, lack of respect and crappy attendance at the end of the PL rainbow.

Fr. Brooks predicted that big time college sports would be a cesspool. No wonder there are so many mid 20 year olds( at least men) playing this season. Hard to find a job outside of the NBA that would pay what some NILs are paying, College sports always has been and always will have a 'cesspool' element to it. Only difference now is it's out in the open. Please stop claiming Brooks was some visionary when it came to athletics.

There always has been good D3 hoops in the city. Woo State is new to the mix. Not exactly, the Woo State women won the D3 National Championship in 1980; defeating Wisconsin Lacrosse in Spokane. Talking the men. WPI, Clark, Nichols (throw them in because they're in the area, and now Woo State have all consistently good programs. Some bumps along the way but the bigger picture is of success.
