They were on the schedule nearly annually from the mid '70s through the early/mid '80s...a result of both our dabbling in joining the Yankee conference then, as well as us downgrading and joining 1-AA and dropping teams like Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple etc from the schedule during that era. When we joined the PL, it left the amount of OOC games at a minimum for historic Ivy rivals, UMass, BU etc...sort of squeezing URI off the schedule.I think it's more the other way around. While the PL schedule "only" allows for 5 OOC games per year, URI has been a member of the CAA (which was previously the A-10 and Yankee prior to that) with just 3 OOC opportunities available per season. URI plays 8 CAA games, an annual FBS guarantee game as well as the Governor's Cup against Brown every year. That leaves one game remaining, and with in-state Bryant having moved up I believed they've played them a handful of times. URI played a four-game series with Harvard that ended in 2019. When I was at Holy Cross, they had what I believe was a four-year "Rams v. Rams" series against Fordham. True today but I don't think Rhody was playing 8 Yankee/A-10 games in much of the mid/late '80s and 90s or playing FBS teams in that era either. Good game for us imo...local, solid level etc

Why haven’t we played URI more over the years? They were on the schedule nearly annually from the mid '70s through the early/mid '80s...a result of both our dabbling in joining the Yankee conference then, as well as us downgrading and joining 1-AA and dropping teams like Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple etc from the schedule during that era. This was a relatively down year fo QB's. Talen was deep & wide in other positions. Perry is less than an afterthought. FCS is largely a talent non-entity with few exceptions. There have been a fair amount of FCS QBs as starting QBs in the NFL the last 20 years or so. Top of my head, Romo and Garappolo both Eastern Ill., Kurt Warner Northern Iowa, Ryan Fitzpatrick Harvard and Carson Wentz ND State.

Brycen Goodine - Guy is local and can fill it up. HC needs a shooter. Its been a long time. A couple of big men would be nice! Goodine to Fairfield. Any idea if he can play next season? Second transfer etc

A few guys we played against and our own Benton Whitley amongst those 50.
I guess Perry (Brown QB) had a great East-West Shrine game and could go in the middle rounds. He would have been great in purple&white imo but blood is thickahh than watahh.

I got blank stares from Sgt Schultz's "I know nothing, nothing..." like 10 or so years ago from students in class.....sadly, there are countless TV catch phrases from the 20th C that are nearly completely lost to many people today. And now back to the 2023 recruiting thread....

A bit higher level than I would have thought he'd end up....don't know anything about them really....8-22, 3-11 in the WCC last season.

Popped up on my Facebook memories today....why does it seem (to me anyway) that that was like 2 or even 3 years ago now??? The covid years have warped what's left of my memory

I think Goodine would probably instantly be our best guard/wing...

Goodine started HS at my alma mater, Bishop Stang...they won a state title in his soph or jr year. Transferred to St Andrew's in RI. Started college at Syracuse, transferred to PC,,,,played well at times but ended up being buried on the Friar's bench. He would be a very good PL-level player imo. Not sure if there's any interest in either direction.

It will be interesting how this all plays out ovah the next decade or so. It seems like we (as in America) are headed for a "re-set" with regards to college athletics at the D1 level anyway. Strength coaches making 800K, head coaches being the highest paid state employee in many states, student-athletes getting thousands and more in NiL $$$, players hop-scotching all ovah the place and on and on it goes. I realize the $$$ these programs bring in on TV revenue and ticket/donor$ has largely led to this but is this the world schools like the Ivies, PL schools, BC, Duke, Northwestern, Stanford etc etc should really be a part of while purporting to be the finest universities in the country? By this, I'm not advocating HC go D3 or NESCAC etc.....it just seems like a breaking point is quickly nearing for schools who want to keep athletics somewhat in perspective and schools who want to go whole hog in with this new environment. BC's leading returning receiver gets to drive a 95K car around campus while he's still a player there. I'm thinking Gordie could have gotten free Coney Island Hot Dogs for life if the NiL existed then.

I have gone from being Spicoli when "Fast Times..." came out to now being Mr. Hand about 40 years later. I met Goddard once at a teacher's conference...he taught in Middleboro after retiring from acting...good guy.

This resignation by Wright really doesn't speak well for the overall "health" of college hoop today imo.
Unrelated issues to a degree, but this age of the portal, NiL etc is going to drive a stake in the heart (for fan support anyway) for mid-major college basketball.

Just me or does it seem like following HC hoop in this day and age of the transfer portal, NiL etc is a Sisyphean task???
Old grumpy guy here undoubtedly, but my passion (or lack thereof) for college basketball in general is severely waning these days.

Is the Merrimack QB back this year? Pretty sure he was a grad transfer last year but I have no idea with these covid rules these days.

Funny, I literally just read that too. I was talking about hitchhiking recently and how you very rarely see it done anymore. My Dad actually hitchhiked from Milton to Maryland sometimes in med school in the '50s. I hitchhiked from Worcester to Mattapoisett (forget why lol) once in the '80s. Also saw in the current HC mag that Prof. Kealey (History, Medieval was his specialty I believe) had passed on sadly as well. Quite a guy, actually left HC after about 20 years there to become ordained as a priest. Used to greet me with "Hello, scholar..." If he only knew

Barring injuries and other unforeseen issues....this looks to be the deepest, most talented HC football team since the Duffner late 80s teams.
That being said, all it takes is one "trip-up" at Hamilton or another PL game to bring us back down to earth. A win at Buffalo would be a very good cushion to get an at-large bid....
