This thread gives me a chance to tell a story. I attended a reception on campus on the day that Jeff Wiley's name was to be added to the Ring of Honor. I had a chance to chat briefly with Jeff and told him the following story (which he enjoyed, and which, trusting in my memory, was absolutey true).
I told Jeff that I had a distinct recollection of a newspaper article regarding an upcoming Holy Cross game. I did not then, and still today do not, remember the opposing team or that team's coach. As I relayed to Jeff, the opposing coach was asked how he was preparing to deal with Gordy Lockbaum in the upcoming game, and the opposing coach responded (as I recall) pretty much as follows: "Well, Lockbaum is a great player and he will present some real challenges for our team. But, the Holy Cross player who really scares me -- is Jeff Wiley."

Also Glen Grieco was a dominant nose guard in the mud/late 60s Indeed! He was superb!

I have a very vivid memory of the license plate BC1.
But it's not a story I can tell right now.

Best chance -- perhaps the only chance. Fordham beats Lafayette and HC beats Georgetown. Or Lehigh beats Lafayette (and HC beats Georgetown)? That would work too, although I think it is less likfely than the scenario I presented.

And might I add SOV, winning the ST battle. In 2002, Ari long KR return for a TD and another that set-up a FG. Also two long runs on reverses/end arounds that led to points. Win ST’s and TO’s is a must this weekend. Won’t be a game w/o those two. If memory servers, Ari had like 330 all-purpose yards that day. Crazy memory -- I was sitting in my den listening to the 2002 HC-Army football game on the radio. It was an Army radio broadcast. Army scored a touchdown and took the lead (not sure of the score; may have been 17-14). I got up for a trip to the bathroom. I come back, and all of a sudden the radio announcer is giving the score with Holy Cross ahead (maybe 21-17). During my brief absence, Ari Confesor had run the kickoff back for a touchdown.

I recall that play in the Monmouth game. The ball was hiked to Pat Haughney in punt formation. Dobbs was in the backfield in a row of blockers to protect the punter. As the defenders swept past the blocker line, Haughney tossed the ball in a shot-put like motion to Dobbs. With the HC linemen leading the way, Dobbs had an easy run for a time until the Monmouth players stopped retreating to block for the punt returner and then were able to stop him. The 40+ yard gain essentially moved the ball from about the HC 35 to the Monmouth 25 (but this is just an approximation).

I agree with the apparent consensus that our 5th-year players have played a key role in our recent success. But there is, to a certain extent that is difficult to measure, also a downside. Younger players, particularly those in our most recent (and very successful) recruiting classes, have -- to a certain extent -- not had the opportunity to get in-game experience that woud be beneficial to their development. Yes, they do benefit from practicing with (and against) our older players and they get some semblance of what it takes to compete, but I wonder whether the lack of in-game experience now will slow their development and/or impact their performance when they become starters in future seasons.

I'm trying to be as cautious as possible here. This is based on my impressions and may be not entirely fair.
The Patrick School (according to Wikipedia, now located in Hillside, NJ) was formerly known as St. Patrick's High School of Elizabeth. It had a well-regarded and successful basketball program under the direction of Coach Kevin Boyle. When the powers that be decided to close St. Patrick's School, it transitioned to The Patrick School no longer connected to the parish or Archdiocese of Newark. According to Wikipedia, in January 2018, NBA star Kyrie Irving, an alumnus of St. Patrick, donated a new gym to The Patrick School. The common thinking (and I have no direct -- or indirect -- knowledge to refute or confirm) is that exists primarily (or perhaps, some might say, exclusively) for its basketball program.
