I believe your confusing UVA and UNC with Duke. Virginia played at Dartmouth as one of the Friel boys played for UVA. Of course Gerry Friel was the longtime basketball coach at UNH and the man for whom the court is named for. Dean Smith also brought his Tar Heels to Hanover to play Dartmouth. I stand corrected. For some reason I had Duke in my head. I had a similar thing in my head except it was Duke at BU for some New England kid. BU was pretty decent then (maybe a few NIT appearances) and Coach K liked the idea of going to the type of opponent they might catch in the first round

Boredom is voluntary. If your mind is so narrow that you chose to be bored, that up up to you. Why complain about your choice? Are you really going back to personal attacks? Be well.

Most of the campus is in Teaneck,NJ. Their gym is across a small footbridge into Hackensack. As to "beautiful"...it has some areas that are. Much like Worcester with far fewer factories.

I always find it fascinating that we have to figure out our home schedule by looking at opponents' away schedules. I am sure like others, I received my notification to renew my basketball season tickets without benefit of knowing who or when we would be playing (or even how many home games there will be). Anyone know if this is standard for other schools?

Anyone know if this is standard for other schools? Not sure it's standard, but there are many times when a school is not allowed to release its schedule until the majors it is playing release their schedules first. Or until a tournament releases its schedule. The big guys don't want people piecing together their whole schedule by looking at the mid-major schedules.

Teaneck has a lot of nice residential areas. I imagine Hackensack does as well, although I don't know it nearly as well.

I was referring to our home games. Don't see where we are playing any of the "big guys" at the Hart Center.

It may not be relevant this year, but If HC were in a tournament, there could be a game in the Hart. Many of the current MTE's are structured so that the midmajors have home games among each other, in addition to playing at one or two majors. That is believed to be the reason Bucknell cannot release its schedule. They have two games with midmajors as part of the Phil Knight 80 event (PK80), one of which is in Sojka. PK80 won't allow release until a certain date.

I stand corrected. For some reason I had Duke in my head. ACTP - you might be thinking of this: In the early 90's, Duke's Crawford Palmer (who was on at least one of their championship squads) transferred to Dartmouth. His brother Walter had played for the Big Green earlier. I remember a game at Hart later where students were taunting Palmer with chants of "Laettner's better!". When I was with UNH hoops, we hosted Florida when Bonner was on the team. Interesting you guys brought up Friel, we played them in a tourney at Furman and Gerry's other son was at Dartmouth while his youngest was a walk-on at UNH. Gerry was a class act and never complained about the challenges he faced at UNH.

No they played all of their games under Jeff Jackson at the Whit and played a good amount for Phil Rowe's early years.

I think, as HChoops says, that it is just that BC was desperate for games and Hartford will play the next two years at BC. Baker Jr. was a very lightly recruited player who only committed in early May. No reason to give him a home game or do a favor for his Dad before he's ever even suited up - especially given that he might not even be good enough to ever play. According to VC, Baker had only one other offer - Bryant.
An ACC team so desperate for games that they decide to go on the road to play a team that they usually pay to come to their house. I guess it's a possibility but there must be some reason BC is coming to Uhart. On the AE boards the same questing is being asked but no response yet from the Hawk fans.
I think it's likely that it will turn out to be a two-for-one, with Hartford playing at BC the next two years. In that sort of arrangement, BC doesn't have to pay any money to Hartford, having instead "paid" by giving them a good home game. That arrangement would save BC a lot of money, which isn't a bad thing for a program that doesn't draw well for most home games. BC's likely attendance for a home game with Hartford would be about 2500 - so they really couldn't afford to pay any normal guarantee without taking a loss. BC last year drew about 2100 for home games with Stony Brook and Towson. Can't fund a true buy game with those sort of numbers. [/quote] I don't know about Towson, but I went to the BC/Stony Brook game...remember the announced figure being around what you say it was...the actual attendance was far short of that. No one goes to BC games any more except to see their (major) opponents.

Always wore white suits, at least in the 70s.

Maybe if such people were at their games it would mean they were recruiting better basketball players. Just sayin'. Haven't heard anything bad about their players in a while...and very few of them can play in the ACC. The BC-philes think that with the new AD's basketball background coach Christian is a dead man walking.
