And Carmody is counting on that. Not sure which one(s) he thinks are going to be the second coming of Karl Charles but my money is on Butler.

The team has players who are: 6'10" 6' 9" 6' 8" 6' 7" 6' 6"HC lost players who were: 6"11" 6' 7" 6' 6" 6' 2" 6' 0" 5'10" How has the team become "undersized?" The 6'7" kid might play....the 6'6" kid starts.

Unlike last year, the reported OOC sked, save for maybe Umass and URI, looks rather unappealing. BUT, given how undersized and inexperienced this team appears, a one year pass on booking any 'name' guarantee games is understandable. Hope I'm wrong but unless one of the rookies really, really surprises it's gonna be a long year. "Surprise" depends on what one's expectations are. To me it will be no surprise if 2 or more of them become strong contributors as freshmen More

Charles and Benzan should start....that's a returning 17 ppg !! Beyond those 2 - as I see it - it's open try-outs amoung Floyd, LeSann, Zignorski and the rookies.
That's 6'6", 5"11" then 6"7", 6"4", 6"2" followed by the frosh.
Lastly, we have 1 wild card....a kid who hasn't played for a year in Perkins at 6'4".
As good as Carmody is he's got a man's work ahead of him finding someone who can score and anyone who can rebound.

PB, KC, & JF are a nice returning nucleus, but the remaining returning cast had played limited minutes last year. Ziggy and CLS showed promise at times, other times, not so much. MP reminded me a lot of a young Malcolm before his injuries, so he's a wild card. Out of necessity, some frosh will provide minutes, hopefully with some success. Undoubtedly this team will be much better come February than they were during 2017. By then I think we will all agree that they will be a year away from being a pretty good team!

By my count, Charles, Benzan, Floyd, Zignorski, and LeSann are the only guys on the roster who have seen meaningful college minutes. Alexander just finished a fine career after averaging about 6 points in 20 minutes as a freshman. It is rare for a freshman at this level and come close to double digit points. Hoping for a two freshmen to contribute to the level of a Charles or RJ Evans is a wicked big hope. The OOC might not seem too glamorous right now, but no OOC game can be taken for granted when the team is this inexperienced

The frosh will play big minutes imo, but none may be needed to average in double digits, if 3-4 are scoring, and esp if KC, PB and particularly, JF, significantly raise their ppg.

JF PB and KC are the worst returning nucleus in the PL. Don't know how anyone can say MP reminds him of Malcolm, MP hasn't played a meaningful minute of basketball in 3 years I hope he can contribute but he's truly an unknown providing he stays healthy. Agree with Hoops the frosh will play big minutes and must contribute significantly. I will hope for the best this year with an eye toward major improvement the following year.

Fwiw, top freshman scoring duos of the past 25 years, 10+ combined ppg . . . 98-99. Serravalle, Whearty - 20.1 99-00. Szatko, Wilson - 20.1 08-09. Evans, Brown - 19.2 97-98. Curry, Pegues - 14.7 15-16. Charles, Zignorski - 14.1 13-14. Alexander, Thompson - 13.7 03-04. Simmons, Thomas - 13.6

Last season we averaged 60ppg primarily because we scored >60 in 13 games; I think it is progress if we cut that in half

I will be the first to admit that I am biased against freshmen. No matter what the hype, I have low expectations. No matter how good the high school or prep school, it's not D-I ball. Two years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by Zignoski and ecstatic with Charles. That does not mean I think these guys will be stiffs. Look at Pat Benzan who had a big sophomore year after a fairly unremarkable freshman year
Based on that frame of reference, sure we might get a kid to score 10 a game, especially if pressed into big minutes. According to Worcester Gray, having two guys do it (or combine for 20) has happened three times in the last 25 years - and one of those duos were scholarship kids in a non scholarship league. Not the best odds to be hanging the hopes of the season on. With such a green team, things should get better as the season progresses, but I'm not seeing a lot of OOC games where HC will be favored

Some could argue we will be better due to addition by subtraction. I have an inkling 2017-18 will be better than last season.

I think KC's game will change a lot next season. I believe he will be asked to shoot and therefore score a lot more. The average for an HC player is typically 10 to 11 FGA per 40 minutes. Last season it was a very low 9.7/40. It was 10.6 the prior season. Last season the guys who shot "a lot" were, no surprise, Robt Champion at 14.2/40 and MA at 12.2/40. MH was 11.3. KC, after taking 10.5/40 as a freshman seemed extremely reluctant to shoot last season (or that's the role he was asked to play) as he took only 7.8 FGA per 40 minutes. I expect that he will take a lot more shots this coming season--maybe 12 or more per 40 minutes. He'll be a go-to guy. Basically, somebody has to take the shots that MA and RC were taking. I believe AB will be a very prolific shooter, but certainly we should look for KC to (A) play 32-33 minutes per game (played 28 as frosh and 31 last year) (B) shoot more frequently, and (C) score a lot more. I'll put the over/under at 14.5 points per game for KC in 2017-2018.

If you subscribe at all to Ken Pomeroy's algorithm, I give you this --
Each player has an offensive rating "ORtg" attached to them. The formula for this rating is as follows:
Offensive Rating = (Points Produced / Individual Possessions) x 100 Points can be produced through field goals, free throws, assists, and offensive rebounds.
Two of the three players who received the most minutes last season had an ORtg of 92.3 and 89.8. By comparison, Charles and Benzan had ratings of 108.0 and 105.7, respectively.
Addition by subtraction.
BTW, as far back as Pomeroy goes, the best season an HC player has had by this metric is Keith Simmons in 2005-06 (123.8).

One trend I want to see reversed, starting with this season, is the quality of play from first half (non conference) to the second half. Both years (with the exception of the March 2016 Magic), the team clearly played better in the first half. Made no sense to me then, and it still doesn't.
It SHOULD be addition by subtraction, just by virtue of the 6 new newcomers being recruited to play in Coach Carm's system. There's a real problem if it doesn't eventually turn out that way. I'm very excited about seeing the new guys play, and I've heard GREAT reports about them from various sources, but I want to someday see them win a PL crown before I just brush aside the guys that were instrumental in that last title.
One thing I like about the 144 teams in 144 days exercise is it reminds us how quickly the new season will be upon us. Cannot wait!

There is no precedent for an HC team to bring in 6 freshmen when only 3 returning players gave us significant minutes.
