Remember Iona game a year earlier in New York earlier RP Jr had an incredible game and remember Valvano saying he was the best freshman he had ever seen. Hamilton and Vickers were also freshmen in that game. Hoops the 76-77 team won their first 9 games then got blasted by Florida do you recall who was on that Florida team?

Steve Burtt was on Pat Kennedy's Iona team around 82-84. I saw them beat HC in the then Centrum.

Thanks. Palma was probably on the Iona team that Ron Perry Jr. Played his final game against in Round One of the 1980 NCAA Tournament at the Providence Civic Center. By then, Iona was firmly established as an eastern power and I believe Iona won by double digits.

I may be wrong, hchoops is more expert on this, but my recollection was Ruland hailed from Brentwood H.S. where I would have gone if I went to public school. Of course, he is many years younger then I and I long since left LI, so I may be wrong.

Actually the '80 team hung tough with Iona that night...was in attendance and met the team post-game....lost 84-78...VERY good Iona team, beat eventual champs Louisville soundly earlier in the year....lost a close one to a Sleepy Floyd led GTown after they beat us.

Just out of curiosity, has HC ever picked up wins by having lost to a team that was later forced to forfeit???

Rhode Island, again without starters EC Matthews and Cyril Langevine, follows up its victory over Holy Cross by beating #20 Seton Hall 75-74 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thanksgiving. Weymouth, MA native Jared Terrell banks in the winner with 5.2 seconds left.

Since they beat us, I hope the home state Rams win the rest of their games. Go Rhody!!
