RGS roster building is a personal choice, while you and I would not want a roster full of transfers and graduate students there is nothing wrong with Iona choosing this route. To suggest that because of this factor last nights matchup was some kind of mismatch is ludicrous. Yes we are young but that's a result of playing with two empty classes one Carmody's fault and one he had no control over. There is only one empty class - the seniors. Having multiple five year students is allowed (but not in the PL, of course - unless due to injury). Transfers are legal, but IMO are something like the one and done players that some of the Power 5 get regularly. Playing a team like that after exams, with only 2 full practices in over a week makes this a difficult game against a group of older, experienced layers who had prepared for and played a game only 2 days before. It was a matchup that clearly favored the Gaels. To think it did not is, indeed ludicrous.

BBC, You may get your wish. (PS: You seem to have forgotten to mention the PL championship and NCAA win yet again. Did you forget?)

That is more and more of a flukey outlier with each passing game. That Belfast Guinness must have been laced with some high octane Purple Kool-Aid!

I watched closely last night, and it seemed to me Iona was quicker, faster, and hit just about every open shot they took...They were never able to put HC away, the 'Saders hung around all night..I saw some positives, JF is showing signs of being a domnant 5..His 2 dunks and a few jump hooks are going to be tough to stop in the PL. He showed flashes of big rebounds, physical play the team needs...The freshmen are playing pretty solidly..AB and CN have come a long way since the opener.. Is this team going to challenge for the PL title this year? NO..but we all new that going in...I see the team progressing, it is better than it was at Sacred Heart and new players area stepping up their games.. X's and O's....I think the defense is a tough one to play well...I would love to see some M2M or zone press..I saw CN move in the match-up from the baseline to the wing, to the middle, to to the opposite corner in one possession! That's a lot of movement in 30 seconds of D..Iona moved the ball very well, made it tough on our defenders..On offense, I would love to see us push the ball a bit more, and take some early open shots..We do have some guys who can shoot it, so let them shoot it! Stevens was suited up last night, will we get to see him play soon? I heard conflicting reports on his health last night... Meant to post this earlier, but Stevens was suited up for the first time yesterday. He fully participated in warm-ups. Copeland and Powers came in with about 30 seconds to go, but Stevens did not

But it did happen so ignoring it does not make our argument stronger. Sad to say, I had only one Guinness. I prefer Hop House 13.

-The only two guys from the Soph & Junior classes who have made any type of significant contribution this year were recruited by the former coach More than a little harsh there. One of the juniors recruited by the current coach is the second leading scorer on the team and was also the game MVP for one of the few wins. I might have been hoping for more from him this season, but I don't think anyone could reasonably call that no type of significant contribution. There's another junior recruited by the current coach. Although many had the kid written off, he has still managed an HC player of the game (albeit in a losing effort), put away a game at the line vs UNH (after his teammates did their best to give it away by missing every front end of a one and one down the stretch), and was one of the few people last night consistently rotating to the wing in timely fashion. I suppose someone might dismiss this as "no type of significant contribution", but I wouldn't. Basically everyone one the team has had more than their share of minuses and this is as frustrating to me as the next guy. However it doesn't seem objective to exaggerate and claim that guys have contributed nothing

Fewer than 10 wins this year is a distinct possibility. What's the ceiling next year? 14. CBC should take BC with him on some recruiting trips.
Stevens must be in the dog house.

Stevens must be in the dog house. He was in a boot for the Assumption exhibition. Foot injury so he probably is nowhere near game aerobic shape. Supposedly no full team practice since UNH (when he wasn't in uniform) so he might not have been on the floor for a full team practice since the season started. Stevens MIGHT be in the doghouse. He might not be ready to jump into a game after the injury. He might not have developed beyond last year's role of last scholarship guy on bench. Could be a lot of reasons a guy who barely saw action last year got zero his first game in uniform this year. In a couple of weeks we might make more informed guesses, but it's almost impossible for an outsider to make anything more than a wild stab at the logic behind a single DNP-CD

And then what happens after we lose Floyd, our only inside player? The trajectory of the program is very alarming, and should be getting serious attention from ADNP now that the football search is done.

Heard he is not in the doghouse unless you consider not 100% healthy enough to play is in the doghouse.

Poor defense and we take too many shots as the clock shot is at 2 or 3 seconds left. You can't let the other team keep shooting open 3 point shots, you need to get in their face. My first thoughts exiting were 1) Basically slow rotations leaving wide open 3's 2) General lack of awareness of the shot clock. The fans were pretty good about counting it down and yet too many times there was no thought of shooting with 2 seconds left. -------------------------------------------------- On a totally unrelated note - I don't think I've said it lately, but thanks to bfoley82 for sharing your photos No problem....this year's mens schedule is very conflicting to me (aka money gigs trump all) so not sure about how many I will be at the rest of the year. I tend to be at more women's game for some unknown reason!

Iona played Rhode Island at the Ryan Center tonight very tough leading up until the middle of the 2nd half before URI turned up the defensive intensity. Rhody wins 80-74 playing five guards in the late stages of the game.
