is coming to town tomorrow (Wed).
For those travelling a little bit, it is going to snow most of the day tomorrow in Worcester but should be tapering off around gametime. We could see a little better than half a foot.
Thanks go out to the United States Military Academy for clarifying which army is coming to town. Just in case anyone thought it was the Red Army that used to do hockey barnstorming tours of the US back in the day.
Now that the thread is started, I will leave it to the regulars to provide opposition previews that we have come to expect

They average 77 per game, 10 3s, making 42% of 3 attempts And taking 40% of their shots from deep - the profile of teams that we haven't handled well all year. Critical test for the defense.

Massey makes the Cadets a 6 point favorite (70-64) and gives them a 71% chance for the win. (Sorry I am a bit behnd on posting - two deaths in friend's families with associated wakes and services).

Is Army in town today (Tuesday)? or do they bus in on game day? If they bus in game day, it could be a long ride looking at forecasts for the day...

I assumed teams travel the day before the game...could be wrong. I think either way they wouldn't have much time for classes. Maybe class time Wednesday morning, but would be tight.

This is D.1 guys, (or at least in name). When the trip is more than 2 1/.2 hours or so teams 'never' travel the day of the game and (when via bus) always return imme after the game. The team misses class the day of the game. There are no PL road games where we leave the day of the game.
You can be assured AWP left today after classes, and will be back for Thursday classes.
I'd say the longest 'same day' bus ride for us would be the 2 hours or so down to Fairfield, Ct. to play Sacred Heart

People going to this game tomorrow should be paid rather than vice versa......

Army would definitely be an overnight -- probably right that Fairfield/Sacred would be about the longest same day bus trip for a night game. However, if we were to play there on a Saturday at 1pm, they would leave the day before after classes.

My guess is HC would still bus for a day game there. Football bussed to Amherst for 1:00pm kickoffs there in 2007 and 2010.

Could someone verify this: I think we bussed up to the Dartmouth Football game last fall for the 7:00pm start!

No matter what time the kickoff, you're still only spending one night in a hotel -- team would bus home from Hanover after a night game, regardless. In theory, all that should happen is that the team gets to finish the day of classes Friday before bussing up late Friday. Could even do the walkthrough practice at home during late afternoon before leaving. Saturday would just be a longer day of meetings/meals, etc. Not sure if they would do a midday walkthrough at Dartmouth. But a bus ride up on a Saturday day of game seems like a recipe for failure.

Now that I think about it, a bus ride to a 7pm KO in Hanover might make some sense. Bus up there leaving late morning, walkthrough, meal, meetings, back to warming up/getting taped up, etc. This itinerary I could see keeping a team more locked in than waking up in a hotel at 8am with 11 hours to go until game time.

45, you may recall we discussed where to stay for the Dartmouth game and I had asked a member of the coaching staff for suggestions where to stay and was told where the team was going to stay (don 't recall where, but 95% sure they did not bus up and play the same day). Believe they headed back to Worcester immediately after the game. Now, if you are so inclined, you can regale the group about your breakfast the morning after.

Ah, the "infamous" breakfast in Hanover! Went to Lou's (didn't realize that one of our posters had this side gig in NH). TripAdvisor rates it #1 of 24 restaurants in Hanover. 30+ minute wait!
Once we were seated it seemed like there was only one waitress for the side we were seated on. Long story short, both of our orders got messed up ! My wife did not get exactly what she ordered and I had finished my plate when the bacon that should have come with it finally arrived (burnt to a crisp)! The excuse given was that some people (including the cook) did not show up for work and they were shorthanded! Smallest tip I ever left! Just under $30.00 for a bad experience! Over the years, have been to Dartmouth/Hanover twice and we lost both times! Hope Coach Chesney can turn our program around, otherwise we may never make that trip again! !

And that, my friend, is why I will never go to Hamilton for a Colgate game ever again. Wasn't a bad trip when I lived in in the Syracuse area but it has been a trail of tears for me over the years dating back to my days on the hill. I won't care if the program turns around and we are 35 point favorites, still won't go. Junior year, HC was heavy favorites (like 14 points) and a bunch of us decided at about 2:00 am to go to the game though we had no idea where Hamilton, NY was despite 3 of the 4 of us being New Yorkers (only later learning in life Hamilton is not "upstate NY" - it is "central New York") - but what did we know being "downstaters?" We went to our "money man" who promised to advance us the $$ for gas, tolls and tickets and off we went. Went Mass Pike and when we hit NYS Thruway, asked what the exit was for Colgate. Drove hours and counted many, many more cows than humans. Got to the game on time only to see the Crusaders lose the game - big. The trip back to Worcester felt like the longest trip I've ever made in my life and I've gone to Australia! Think when I lived in Syracuse that the Crusaders actually won some/most games which lulled me into a false sense of security. Now the trip from RI has been made numerous times and each and every time not one trip was rewarded with a win despite sometimes being favored or even when underdogs, much closer than 14 points dogs. Seen too many leads lost late in the game and 'gate running game grinding out the clock to seal the deal. And that, my friends, is why I have been harping for years for the Cross to get a big, powerful back to gain the necessary 4-5 yards to grind out a win when you are hanging onto a lead late in the game. PLEASE, Coach Chesney!!!!

It took at least 5 hours to get back from Colgate after losing in hoop there my senior year (and losing then was worse than now given the relative statures of the two programs). Worst bus trip evah.
And, yes around Sader 70s time HC had at least a 3 game win streak against The Orange. Syracuse only lost a handful of games at Manley Field House in the 70s and one of them was to HC.
I did see HC play football once there and HC won. 1990 I think, Andy Kerr Stadium was half torn down (and is pretty nice now) at the time and the field was a quagmire (thank goodness that place is now turf).

Some keys tonight:
1. Army plays at a very brisk pace (second only to Bucknell in the conference), while Holy Cross is one of the very slowest in the country (349th in possessions per game). Who will impose its preferred style on the other?
2. Army takes a high percentage of its shots from deep, and is ranked 5th nationally in 3FG%, the kind of team that has exposed our over-extended defense all year. Looked to me like Holy Cross was more conservative in the half-court for most of the BU game, though getting burned a number of times along the baseline. Will the team be prepared to "stay home" defensively and not create huge gaps around the arc where Army can snipe away?
3. One of the worst defensive rebounding teams in the country most of the season, Holy Cross has been one of the best over the course of the last three games, getting 77% of the available boards at the defensive end. In fact, the Crusaders have snared 70%+ in each of the last five contests - first time that's happened during Carmody's tenure here. Army is not especially good on the glass, so important that we continue to hit the boards hard to deny them extra scoring chances.

You noticed this improvement in defensive rebounding a few games ago and brought it to our attention. To what can we attribute the improvement: better boxing out, different defensive assignments, weaker opponents, Butler & Grandison playing more???

Hopefully staff is working to get guys to stay on the floor and not over react to ball fakes. So far this has been a huge problem leading to penetration and a breaking down of our defense. Hankerson did this at will last game leading to a number of easy opportunities near the basket.
