Throw Wednesday’s game away; the kids lost a captain and leader of the squad. They played feeling sorry for themselves and got it handed to them. CBC has been coaching a long time and knew how to get the kids back! Not so sure that's how it played out at all, based on this evening's wrap in the Telegram . According to Pat, team held a "players only" meeting on Thursday to work through things. Maybe need to give the players some (most?) of the credit for righting the ship today. Curious that didn't come up in the pre-game or post-game interviews with Carmody. www.telegram.com/news/20180210/mens-basketball---holy-cross-73-boston-university-62-crusaders-bounce-back-turn-back-terriers

I almost want to ignore the comment but I will accept the bait
Nothing to do with the lens, called objectivity and real expectations. If I recall correctly there were very few that thought this group of young men would win more than 10-12 games this year. And in the end they will meet expectations and give some promise to a brighter future.
We are a PL program, no matter how much that bothers most of us. We recruit and have many players in our major sports that are a step slower, a few inches smaller, a few pounds lighter than those that play in the bigger conferences. But these kids can all play at some level in college and want to give the school their best effort.
And btw PL coaching is probably at a much higher level than you want to accept.
if I am off base accept my apology.

I am not sure that anyone is satisfied with the won/loss record that seems to be your fixation. What others may look at is talent and how this team is developing as a unit under CBC. By looking only at numbers, and not people, that can be missed. The color of a lens does not matter. Apparently when some look at those numbers, they miss seeing a PL tournament title and an NCAA win. Perhaps they wear black lenses and just can't see those numbers.

"Curious that didn't come up in the pre-game or post-game interviews with Carmody."
Why would the coach bring up a players only meeting? No need that I can see.

Because one game makes a career at a school. Carmody has not done a good job at HC. Fact. An opinion is not a fact. But then, you knew that. Is his overall record and record in the PL opinion or fact?

It is not uncommon for coaches to have his/her captains call a players only team meeting after a difficult stretch

Proud of the guys today; great job! Pat really sharp, and they got a big boost from CN. And what did I tell you about AB! Loved how he didn't back down from Hankerson, and induced the technical. We made a new friend in our section, a gentleman who wasn't impressed with our support of the Saders. All in all, a great day! The gentleman that NAD refers to was sitting several seats over from CHC8485 and kept giving us the "evil eye"!!! When Hankerson was questioning the officials about a call against him yours truly vocalized "Hankerson, we'll give you a whistle next year"!. Apparently this sent this guy over the edge! ! After the game while walking out he stared back at our group with daggers in his eyes!!! oh well, we got out of Dodge safely!!! !

I’m not only looking at numbers, I’m also considering the following, among other things: 1) A wretched defensive scheme 2) An offense that cannot generate good shots against an average or better defense 3) An inability to recruit someone who can play in the paint (we’re totally screwed when Floyd graduates next year) 4) An inability to develop the roster with the lone exception of Floyd, who is a unicorn in terms of his skill set and athletic ability compared to anyone else we’ve brought in over the last 2.5 years 5) A total lack of emphasis on rebounding And perhaps most importantly: 6) The very real potential of a serious legal and NCAA investigation that could lead to Carmody recruits #2 and #3 being kicked off the team/out of school

Regarding defense, we should note that the HC defense is now rated at #3 in PL play per Ken Pomeroy's site--really have moved up a lot

KY, Thanks, that's not bad for a wretched defensive scheme and recruits who can't play in the paint.

As a point of reference:
PL teams Offensive Rating national ranks: 94 - 152 - 179 - 226 - 244 - 253 - 256 - 310 - 313 - 337
PL teams Defensive Rating national ranks: 147 - 166 - 216 - 254 - 264 - 267 - 274 - 276 - 284 - 320
2 teams in the top 50% for both offense and defense, and a whole lot of bad teams in each category.

The league is horrific right now in the two marquee sports of football and men's hoop....serious dilemma for the school....it relies on being associated with the PL for marketing/admissions but the league has destroyed any sort of branding for Holy Cross in hoop and football.

Our block % of 15.0 on defense in PL games would be good enough for 13th nationally for the full season. That is leading to having the 2nd best 2FG defense in conference games, and driving the ranking of being 3rd in the PL in defense. Floyd alone accounts for 62% of the team’s blocks. Remove Floyd from the defense, and we’re right back down towards the bottom of a bad league.

And lose Tom Brady and the Pats probably are a mediocre NFL team, right?

And lose Tom Brady and the Pats probably are a mediocre NFL team, right? Not as long as they still have Belichick and his system. Belichick lined up a replacement for Brady who is now the highest paid QB in the NFL.

Floyd has become a beast on the defensive end in PL play 40 of his 50 blocks on the season came in league play. He's making it virtually impossible for teams to score inside and covers up a lot of defensive deficiencies. Hoops have you seen a more dominant inside defender than Floyd has been, I've been watching HC. Basketball for almost 60 years and can't think of anyone.

I. Would say two guys who certainly did not have JF’s athleticism, but who had great timing and many blocked shots were Josh Sankes and Tim Clifford. If JF can continue this pace through this and next season, he should surpass both His intimidation factor is probably the best we have seen, certainly since Josh. Before blocks were kept, HC had few shot blocking front court players—maybe Gene Doyle. He also was very athletic with terrific timing. Chris Potter could also block shots , great timing

AB wouldn’t back down from Hankerson and his three toughest friends Approximately when in the game did this occur? I need to find this on the replay. A little bit more than 4:00 minutes left in the game. Here’s the archive video link. watchstadium.com/live/holy-cross-at-boston-university-4/

I can attest to Gene Doyle being a shot blocker but we don't have blocked shots stats for him or Tom Heinsohn sign or some other greats. However to date in this discussion we have not yet mentioned the most prolific shot blocker of the stats era
3.2 per 40 minutes by ?? 3.0 Tim Clifford 2.9 Josh Sankes 2.8 Jehyve Floyd

Watched about half the game on livestream today. Impossible to not be proud of the resilience of these guys coming off the Navy shellacking and with the dark cloud hanging over them with the suspensions. BU struggling of late but solid road win against a team that beat us by double digits at the Hart. Pat looks to be putting team on his back from a leadership standpoint.
We are 7-50 from 3 pt range in our last three games (about 13 percent) -- and have found a way to win 2 of those. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

BU has always been an atrocious athletic program with no support, regardless of its league affiliation at any given time. Exhibit A is a school of that size having to throw the towel in on its football program.
