Jeff Goodman reporting that Nate intends to graduate and either 'grad transfer' for a 5th year elsewhere or pursue professional route. He'd definitely help someone next year at a higher level

I wish him well...and, as a Holy Cross fan, I am glad to see him move on.

Jeff Goodman reporting that Nate intends to graduate and either 'grad transfer' for a 5th year elsewhere or pursue professional route. He'd definitely help someone next year at a higher levelĀ Goodman is somehow reporting this as a scoop, although it has been known for close to a year. He has a fifth year of eligibility due to his freshman year injury, and the Bucknell administration will almost never approve a 5th year for an athlete. So for a long time, most people have known that he would be either going the graduate transfer route or going to Europe or possibly playing football. He has not decided yet.

Didnt Stephen Tyree get a 5th year?
IIRC he got injured again with his second career torn ACL as a fifth year senior and career ended that way.

Yes he did - and it took a full year for the Bucknell administration to sign off. Then he got a second torn ACL, which he rehabbed and returned to play after a month with a big brace on. Actually contributed in some games. As a soph - before the first ACL tear - Tyree led Bucknell in rebounds, assists, shooting pct, and won the PL DPOY. May be the only player in history in any D1 league to accomplish those four in the same season. Unfortunately he made things even harder for any future 5th year players, as he had opted to do a Masters program in Education - one of the few Masters programs available - but then he never finished the degree.

Any chance that Sestina might go down the road to Lehigh--pretty good grad school there....

Any chance that Sestina might go down the road to Lehigh--pretty good grad school there.... No, for a few reasons. First, PL bylaws don't allow schools to give scholarships to transfers from other PL schools. Second, if he decides to play a 5th year - which is not decided yet - he is looking to go to a higher level. Third, he has seen Dr. Reed's coaching for four years.

Yes, you are correct. I had looked a couple of years ago and failed to find anyone, other than Tyree, who had done that in a D1 league. Floyd might only be the 2nd. Nipped Green for the most HC assists, passing him in the last five weeks.

I recall posters criticizing Sestina being chosen as an All PL player in the preseason. They were wrong. He was very good in the PL.

I recall posters criticizing Sestina being chosen as an All PL player in the preseason. They were wrong. He was very good in the PL. I think he did about what was expected - which was very good. In PL play, he was 7th in scoring (16.0 ppg), 2nd in rebounding (8.6 rpg), 8th in FG pct (56%), 7th in FT pct (78%), 4th in blocks. Also hit 38% on threes but wasn't in the top ten. His numbers were just about the same in OOC play. Was 4th on the KenPom.com All-PL list. He played center almost exclusively due to Bucknell's lack of depth at that position, but I think he is better suited for PF. If he transfers, that will likely be his main position next year.

Hate to break it to you but.....even for Holy Cross players.....basketball matters. And it usually, not always, is more of a factor than academics.

There's a precedent for this potential move. The Kentucky Wildcats have got some great play this year from Reid Travis who played undergrad at Stanford and now is using up eligibility at UK. Like Travis, Sestina may want to move up both athletically and academically

Only place worse would be Iona!
------
I believe Kentucky never comes close to the 13 scholarship limit due to the number of freshmen & sophomores who jump to the NBA, so bringing in an experienced big to provide depth to the rotation would be very valuable for them.

Well, if Pitt was happy with Boykins the Panthers would be ecstatic with Sestina It would make sense in some ways. Pitt is only a couple of hours from Nate's home, and it has some pretty good grad programs - depending on what he's looking for. Also he would have a good chance to see regular minutes. His AAU team was based out of Pittsburgh.
