Perhaps the Staff has already won a few of those battles. We outrecruited three MAC teams, three PL competitors, and Vermont (among others) for Judson Martindale. Like five hundred lawyers at the bottom of the ocean, that was a good start. Jumping in with a winning offer to Mike Rabinovich after he got ones in quick succession from Lehigh, AU, BU, and Brown was impressive, too.
I can remember several losses but no recruiting victories by either of Nelson's predecessors vs. Penn, and only one vs. Yale - Tyrone Cohen, which doesn't exactly merit a W. Beating them out (along with W&M, which has also been chasing Johnson) would be a step up - beating out Xavier, GW, and George Mason is a much taller order.

I'm thinking that a winning program (starting 21-22), and personal success for Martindale and Rabinovich, could help us with future recruits from Worcester Academy which appears to be very fertile territory....

I think the entire area represented by the New England Prep School Athletic Conference has become a very fertile area for b-ball talent.

Here's a seven-minute clip from a Long Island Lutheran game last December. Klaczek is #23 in white.

Speaking of the NEPSAC, Robbie Stankard, a 6’8” forward from Philips Exeter, has committed to Columbia per NERR. Five of NERR’s top fifty 2021s have announced commitments. Four are headed to the Ivies.

I saw him once in person when he played a lot and a few TV games when he played little against fellow nationally ranked teams. He plays like a skilled European big. He was always a 4th or 5th option in their offense with 2 highly ranked teammates. This season he will be more featured though probably not the primary scorer. Hard to tell his rebounding skills since one of his ranked teammates was a very strong rebounder.

According to NERR, we are one of 7-8 schools showing interest in Matt Constant, a 6’2” point guard from St. Andrews in RI.

Billups, a 6-4 SG (some sources say 6-6), has an offer from, you know - and eight other schools, including Siena, Bucknell, Niagara, and Brown.

George Smith, a good southpaw CG from Brooks, committed to Penn today. Had been holding out some hope HC was still in the running, but our winless streak vs. the Quackers rolls on.
