I guess at 3.5 behind in the wild card race, the White Sox are technically a contender, but at 3 games under .500, I am unconvinced How this may affect .Declan’s possible call up, I do not know.

Its a new world. Very soon MLB and NFL will be like the NBA where being relatively close to .500 makes you a playoff contender. Long gone are the days of winning 103 games and going home.

Covid positive callups are another way to get a cup of coffee in the bigs. Or, in the case of the Royals, a trip to Toronto with a bunch of unvaxed players on your roster.

Are they still forcing players to test regularly or is it voluntary at this point?
Haven't heard much about positive tests in sports lately. Hopefully this BA5 uptick coming doesn't change that, but it probably will if players still testing often.

Novak Djokovic won't be allowed to compete in the US Open all in the name of public health and safety...or something like that.

Mets pitcher Chris Bassit recently returned from sitting out due to a positive test. I believe he tested himself.

The MLB draft is this weekend - you often see trades of draft picks and minor leaguers are thrown into deals as extra pieces. You never know what teams have had an eye on Declan

Cronin didn't fare well last night - 1/3 IP, 3 BB, 3 H, 3 ER. Now 1-2, 7.11 ERA, 18.5 R/9 at Charlotte.

Two bad outings and 5 or so good outings for Cronin. If he only had good outings in AAA, he’d be in the MLB. Still plenty of time to put up some more good outings. He’s only been in AAA for a few weeks. Hopefully the recent blowup doesn’t get him demoted.

^ AA is where the majority of MLB are, not AAA I think that is true of top prospects. For guys hoping to get a call up when the big club needs an arm, those guys tend to come from AAA.

AAA guys are a stop gap for an emergency call up. They are not the guys for the long-haul.

Cronin has been in 11 games for Charlotte with an 0-0 record and 4.50 ERA. His peripherals (WHIP, K rate) are not great but he has two holds and has held the opponent scoreless in 9 of 11 outings. Hopefully he will continue to improve at the AAA level and get a shot at MLB in the next few years.

And I would imagine Declan knows that. The very very low wages gotta get old even when chasing the dream. It would be no surprise to hear he shuts it down at the end of next year if he hasn’t been called up to the bigs. (NB: AAA pays about 700 per week for 5-ish months per season (a grand total of 15k annually) and that is substantially more than AA and A. The new agreement apparently gives some sort of very (very) minimal housing to minor leaguers for those 5-ish months per year. MLB gets away with these horrible wages by classifying their minor leaguers as “seasonal” and as “trainees”. The minor league salaries associated with those 7-year minor league contracts generally startle baseball fans. Yes, there are high draft bonus babies and other rare exceptions to this general description. )

It's all pretty laughable at this point as it couldn't be clearer that being vaccinated and boosted doesn't do anything to prevent the transmission of this virus. Back to baseball, it'll be interesting to see what happens if the Blue Jays make the playoffs.

Back to baseball, it'll be interesting to see what happens if the Blue Jays make the playoffs. I am not even discussing that part...the rules are the same in the USA and Canada. You can't enter the country as a foreigner without being vaccinated. It is only being brought up when American citizens are heading to Canada yet there is the same exact thing going on with Djokovic.

Two nights ago, Cronin threw 1 and 1/3 innings giving up only one hit.
In his last 5 and 2/3 innings, he's given up five hits, no walks, and struck out four.
His WHIP (1.50) and opponent's batting average (.306) need to come down if he's going to advance to the big club.
