Might security cams be placed on the Jo?... a major campus entrance/exit The Upper Campus Road was closed beyond the little circle where trucks turn to access the loading docks at Hogan. All of the traffic to the Upper Campus is now via City View St.

And you would know that how?
Can we assume you are tapping into the NSA spy satellites since the HC webcams that would show that are down?

Before the Jo webcam became offline last week, once repositioned to face the Hogan lot, you could see traffic entering from City View St. The construction crew over the last two weeks removed all of the trees and shrubbery in the Hogan Parking lot and the island in front of Hogan.
When the cam was still on line, you could see the curbs were also removed.

The visual satellites are operated by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). You can read a heavily redacted version of their budget request from about ten years ago here: fas.org/irp/nro/fy2014cbjb.pdfI will inquire about restoring the view for all.

Phreek-- When you get a few minutes could you out an end to the Russian hacking of our businesses ? you don't ask for much, do you? The Geneva Summit ended early because Vlad said he had to take an important phone call.. Now, check out The Jo webcam!

Great work, Phreek.
So based on this webcam view, we can assume that "The Jo" is going to be moved from the old Fieldhouse location next to PPAC and between Hogan and Luth? How will they do that? [no, I'm not serious, just that HC seems to have a tough time with technology and can't get both the webcams and the name/location of the webcam synced up.]

The PPAC (or PCPA) will open for Holy Cross in Jan-Feb 2022. (The costume shop is delayed as its size is being doubled given the upwelling of alumni interest and support.) Several months to fine tune the acoustics. Open to the public for performances in the fall of 2022. I just dropped off my old clothes.

All of the traffic to the Upper Campus is now via City View St. I think that this is temporary... City View is still a city street. The redo of the Hogan parking lot should be done by the opening of fall semester. The walk way from the lot into the center & turn around will be redone with new plantings. The adjacent memorial will be retained.

Of all the times I have walked the campus over 50 years, I do not recall seeing the memorial that was mentioned.

They owned all the property on either side and said it was safer this way than using the street as a vehicle cut through with all the students and staff crossing the street on foot. I don't think it would be possible to close City View because there are fewer egresses from the HC campus than WPI and in an emergency you want routes in and out.

Appears that construction staffing has increased significantly this week by DiMeo. At the 9:00 AM break, counted approximately 60 or more exiting the site for the coffee break.
There are also 4 or 5 working on the Hogan parking lot.
The upper campus is busy....

Tremendous video!!!!! This really gives you a good sense of the new facility. Great job by our tour guide. This building will be a real separator for HC

The tour guide had me at "Beehive Cafe" which would be a nice place to stop before or after games at the Hart or the playing fields behind the Luth.

From the Hogan parking lot webcam, one can see the formwork for a low wall just to the south of the entrance foyer to the PCPA. This wall probably marks the sidewalk between Luth and the PCPA. The area beyond the wall is an outdoor amphitheater. They have already tested showing movies in this area, --a lie-in instead of a drive-in. The side of the entrance foyer serves as the screen. The test apparently went very well, so several design changes were made to this space. I presume the movie(s) was digitally projected, so there is no reason why sports events could not also be screened. Don't know about the sound. Don't know the prone spectator capacity.
As for the lie-ins, I'll conclude with this quote from the last century: So I predict in the future that this area will simply be known as The Pit

That sounds in many ways like a rather attractive title. ...of course, at my age, lying down to watch a film is no problem...getting back up after the showing, that could be a problem of the first order.

New students will need a short handbook of terms for campus locations/sites:
"The Quad" "Easy Street" "The Hoval" "The Jo" "The Pit"
others?

I should send a note to Tracy Barlok suggesting that 'naming rights' to 'The Pit' be promoted as a potential class gift. Four drive-ins still operating in MA.* Would think they did quite well during COVID. * Date of the article in link below is unclear. www.driveinmovie.com/MA.htm

Why didn't you think of this before?!!!
And our Class 50th Reunion Gift went to 27 stinkin' scholarships! [I kid, I kid. Non-athletic schollies to students in financial need is MUCH more important than 'The Pit']
FWIW, I was pushing to replace the "Fr. K bell" as something tangible but outside of HC70, couldn't get any traction. The days are long gone when a Class told Holy Cross what their Class Gift was going to be (like the Linden Lane gates). Now you'd think you were negotiating a START Treaty.
