I went to my first game of the year yesterday so I parked on the top of the hill to see the new buildings. Overall, I think the campus is stunning and I walked around with my my son and grandson very proud of what HC has done. As far as the PPAC I think it's beautiful. It's bigger than I expected but I'm happy that HC has stretched its legs architecturally. What a great addition.

"stretched its legs architecturally"...a very apt description.

For the more construction savvy posters here, take a look at the PPAC webcam. There are 2 vertical pieces standing about 6' tall and maybe 8' wide sitting on one of the walkways.
Anyone know what they are? Almost looks like possible signs to be installed somewhere.

And they have arrived late, perhaps a delay in 'manufacturing the cut stone.

PP, any chance the Prior Center will be ready for second semester in 5 weeks? If not, when do you think it will open? When I was on campus a couple of weeks ago I looked inside and it looked like there is still a ton of work to be done.

When I was on campus a couple of weeks ago I looked inside and it looked like there is still a ton of work to be done. No. I know that several weeks ago, staff who will use the building were given tours, so they could determine where 'stuff' that would be moved to the PCPA would be placed. I think a question is whether the city would give an occupancy certificate for parts of a building, while other parts are still under construction. A possible 'certificate' issue with the PCPA may be its design, where the four 'wings' all radiate off the central core, the so-called beehive, and the beehive acts as the primary access to these 'wings'. The east side, which is not visible on the webcam, is where the loading dock is and where they are apparently bringing in materials and furnishings, etc. When there is little or no activity there, then I would say they are close to finishing. The concert hall was already scheduled to be the last to be completed, because of the acoustics tuning. This can take weeks. But I think you could receive a certificate of occupancy before the acoustics are fine-tuned.

At the HCAA dinner the Dean told me that it would be open for 'shake down' activity but no programming until the next academic year.

We haven't talked about this key project in months. Who has an update on its status?

We haven't talked about this key project in months. Who has an update on its status? It will be dedicated in December. My understanding is that it is not open for events during the three Reunion weekends. I have not heard whether it will be open for limited peeking during those weekends. I'm sure the college would love to at least give a peek. I would have a better sense of where the contractor is if there was a webcam on the east facade, where the loading dock is.

Numerous cars in the PCPA parking lot at 8 PM. My guess, either working late installing classroom furniture or starting to test and refine the acoustics.

The cars are parked there at 6:30 AM, so perhaps these are student cars. The north row of parking spaces with the white pickup truck is what can be seen on the webcam. This is the east facade of the PCPA. The loading dock is also visible. (The gray, level area that can be seen on the webcam is for an outdoor theater. There are no permanent seats yet., I was told these were value engineered out of the construction contract. The white portion of the facade can be used as a projection screen, and was apparently tested as such. I believe this outdoor theater was not part of the original design, but was added later.)

As I feared, the building is very unattractive (I typed and deleted some other adjectives), but let's hope it is a great performance venue.

Attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder. Having seen the outside perhaps a dozen times but not able to see inside, I am impressed but agree with KY not especially attractive.
But I also recognize that KY and I may be looking at this through 50+ year old eyes.
Are the Easy Street dorms attractive?

That opening view looks a bit like the front of a republic helmet from Star Wars.

Then again, you probably like Andy Warhol stuff too. I was told that Fauci's roommate at Holy Cross was another classics major from Regis HS -- Vito Acconci. Holy Cross considers Acconci to be the most renowned visual artist to have ever graduated from Holy Cross. Positing that Fauci is the most renowned physician to have graduated from Holy Cross, to have this pair be roommates during their Holy Cross years is quite remarkable. --------------------------------- As for the Prior Center, the webcam reveals students entering and leaving, so some of Prior appears to be open for classes.

I was told on Move-In Day that PPAC was not officially opened as they were still doing some inside work "but, if you happen to be on campus on a weekday, the doors are open and no one will stop you." That was Saturday and I did even try on Sunday when I was up there since, you know, Sunday is not a weekday. Paging 45 . . . . we need some inside pictures!

I did not realize (may have been stated a dozen times) thst the Cantor Art Gallery was moving to the PPAC. I think that’s a real positive-will likely give it greater exposure

The Cantor Art Gallery is located above the main entrance, and basically occupies the second floor between the central 'beehive' and the large windows above the main entrance. There will be a screen to minimize light damage to paintings and prints.
The Luths seem to have made another generous gift to the college to have their names on the concert hall.
