The Cantor Art Gallery is located above the main entrance, and basically occupies the second floor between the central 'beehive' and the large windows above the main entrance. There will be a screen to minimize light damage to paintings and prints. The Luths seem to have made another generous gift to the college to have their names on the concert hall. The second floor in this photograph is the location of the Cantor Art Gallery.

There is a typo in the release. Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery Four nearly four decades, the Cantor Gallery has promoted and supported the intellectual and cultural life of the College through its exhibitions and acquisitions, both historical and contemporary. A custom-designed new location in the Prior Performing Arts Center includes a stunning display area, a workroom for presentation and preservation, and a studio space for displaying works in a seminar setting.

Below is the NYT article. As has been noted, the idea is that this space will be a gathering place for the upper campus. It will draw coffee and hang out customers away from Hogan, I suspect. The idea that the lobby is a gathering space reminds me of our local high school. When it was built twenty years ago, I was confused by the idea that when you walked seventy five feet in from the front door, you took three steps down and were in the eating space of the cafeteria (The food lines are behind a wall at the other end of the room.) The architects explained that the space would be used for the entire school day and not just at lunch. In fact, it is used by kids studying together after school and parent groups meeting at night. I think it is a design that will work well for HC.
Imagine stepping into a theater lobby and peering into the dressing rooms. You can do just that at the Prior Performing Arts Center at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., now that the $107 million building, which was completed last month, is welcoming students for the fall semester. (And don’t worry, the performers will be able to close a curtain for privacy.)
“The Beehive,” as the space is known, is no ordinary theater lobby. It is a grand central atrium with a cafe that will act as a hub for the performing arts, as well as for the larger Holy Cross campus. The atrium’s glass walls will give visitors a glimpse into the school’s inner workings, from classrooms to gallery and event spaces.
Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the Prior Performing Arts Center is organized in a cross shape (not a reference to the college or its Catholic affiliation), with four wings flanking the Beehive: a 400-seat proscenium-style wood-lined main theater; a 200-seat flexible black box theater; a wing of practice and production spaces; and the Cantor Art Gallery wing, which includes a media lab geared toward augmented reality, virtual reality and electronic music composition.
The goal, according to Charles Renfro, the project’s lead architect, was to make the building adaptable to spontaneous creative uses. “Many education spaces are very prescribed,” he said. “We wanted to provide a space so welcoming and flexible students would feel compelled to make it their own.”
Alluding to the red brick and limestone of Holy Cross’s 19th century Collegiate Gothic architecture, the center is clad in Cor-Ten steel and glass fiber-reinforced concrete. The building replaces part of a parking lot, and will serve as a central point for pedestrians on the campus. Students will enter the arts center from the building’s corners, which are planted with different landscapes, including a small amphitheater and a meditation garden.

What an incredible gift to HC by Cornelius Prior. Having this beautiful performing arts center (and home to the Cantor Gallery) underscores HC's status as an elite institution.

Not a fan of the exterior, but the inside is magnificent. The auditorium is amazing. Standing at the top and you can hear conversational level speech on stage- wonderful acoustics. The ballet studio has a large glass window view of the campus and miles beyond to the airport, clear as a bell yesterday. Thank you, Neil Prior.

Hope no one adapts and uses the old Brown Football jeer against us.
"What's the color of the side of your building? Brown, Brown, Brown!"
I am assuming that color blends in with the surrounding environment much more graciously in person than in photos.

I see that Emmy award winning alum Ann Dowd recently toured PPAC. Also, that the first play at PPAC will be Iphigenia. Off and running.

I saw Euripides’ Iphigenia in Aulis in the Greenwich Village Circle in the Square theater in 1967 with Irene Papas. Wonderful, timeless play. I would love to see it in the amazing auditorium in the Prior.

Is the famous, noted Broadway director, alum Bart Scher involved with the Prior? (He may have won a Tony.) I have no doubt overtures were made. But I don't know his response. Hope HC does not fail to miss an opportunity.

Hope HC does not fail to miss an opportunity. I believe has won one Tony and been nominated for numerous others. Several years ago he was interviewed by someone at HC about the theater so I think he would be amenable to promoting PPAC, but I think he is a very busy guy.

Hope HC does not fail to miss an opportunity. I met Bart Sher at a Seattle alumni event when he was the Director of the Intiman Theater in Seattle. He is a loyal alum, and I am sure he would be happy to do whatever.
