13 assists, 15 turnovers. Quicker pace and new players?

The turnovers make me a bit nervous, but it is time for learning the new system and to work with new teammates. I would like to know what the coaches ches thought of this performance.

Tommy H when he coached the Celtics said at a clinic, if you commit to fast breaking, you have to accept turnovers

Once live stats worked, they worked quite well for me. I thought they refreshed quickly and going from one page to another was seemless using my iPad.

Matt Faw, surprisingly, went 0-4; all other players shot 50% or better on field goals

Glad we won but I draw exactly zero conclusions about the team/players from this win. Giving up 77 and the small rebound differential isn’t great but we will see what our new coach can do.

Left game with about 3 minutes left HC up 11. Interesting starting lineup as was noted previously. LeSann and Cpoeland dressed but didn't participate looked to be dealing with some type of injury. Man to man defense was terrible nobody able to stay in front of their man. Assumption got to rim at will but missed a number of bunnies due to lack of size. Don't know if they had a player over 6'6. Lowder is very skilled offensively but he was the worst defender on the floor. Assumption has a very clever point guard who went by Lowder consistently. Nelson actually took him out couple of times in 2nd half due to the poor defense. He's got to get way better on that end of the floor but is very good on offense. Pridgeon is a well built kid who looked like he belonged out there. Made a number of nice moves to the hoop only question is whether he'll be able to finish over bigger players. Rebounded pretty well didn't take a perimeter shot. Hargis looked good as well on offense same question did all his damage inside will he be able to do that against D-1 competition. Missed his only two perimeter shots. Niego got in early foul trouble and in general a quiet night for him. Butler played really well in 2nd half made a number of driving shots. Due to size advantage no real need to take a lot of perimeter shots. Faw played poorly in first half and didn't play in second half not sure whether an injury situation or coach's decision. Verbeek played well in second half can really shoot it but has no strength and I fear he'll get pushed all over the floor against bigger players. Reilly came in for Lowder for defensive purposes in 2nd half and played the Assumption point guard much tougher than Lowder. Didn't do much on offense either positively or negatively. Wade appears to be an excellent open shooter as he hit three of four from distance didn't put the ball on the floor much not sure if he can get his own shot. Yesterday played in the first half rather than Reilly and I don't think he took a shot seemed to handle the ball okay. In general my biggest concern was on the defensive end, rebounding seemed better but need to see how that goes against D-1 competition. Offensively I think they'll be okay. Nothing I saw tonight changed my opinion that this will in all likelihood be a tough season. Key will be development of the younger players with an eye toward the future.

Thanks for the detailed report. Faw's minutes really jumped out at me -- can't say for certain, but could be the cause of now having a coach who will require him to play defense and go beyond the 3-point line on offense. I am cautiously optimistic about the guard with the positive first game developments from the three frosh, but we're in deep trouble inside if we're going to be playing Niego and Verbeek at the 5.

Also attended. Agree pretty much across the board with possum's observations.
Hargis went to the floor a few times for loose balls, looked confident attacking the basket - the most pleasant surprise of the night. Pridgen's performance not so surprising - was our best defender, kept his man (soph Cal Connelly) scoreless, also looked best penetrating, established good rebounding position consistently. Lowder very good at the offensive end creating shots, especially on floaters and short jumpers, but truly awful defensively. Was a little surprised we didn't rebound better, especially on the offensive end. Faw is biggest concern for me at this point.

Glad we won but I draw exactly zero conclusions about the team/players from this win. Giving up 77 and the small rebound differential isn’t great but we will see what our new coach can do. Small differential, true...but HC came out with MORE rebounds than our opponent, a change from the usual of the last few seasons. That would seem top be moving in a good direction.

HC DReb%: 78.6% (33/42) AC DReb%: 84% (21/25) Loooong way to go to dig out of the defense and rebounding crater that this program was left in.

With team rebounds included, HC percentage of defensive rebounds was 33/44 = 75%. And Assumption's percent of defensive rebounds was 78%. So a small edge to Assumption, a team that was an average rebounding team in its D2 games last year.

What is a good rate of defensive rebounds ? 75% is a solid rate - but not so much against an undersized D2 team

What is a good rate of defensive rebounds ? 50th percentile in D1 last year was 71.7% HC was between 67%-68% each of the past three years for an average rank of 314 out of the 350 D1 teams (10th percentile). As a point of reference, RW’s HC teams finished ranked between 1-37 in the country 8 of 10 years.

All I will say is Rome wasn't built in a day.....defense was bad, but I'm sure they will be working a LOT on it every single day at practice.
Liking my guy Pridgen (ok, WooGray, OUR guy).
