Good call, slipped my mind.
And this isn't even factoring in all of the players who Nelson inherited transferring. I'm willing to give him a pass on those guys, but if you were to include all of them...well...it ain't pretty how many players have walked out of the program.

The program is arguably in a worse spot now than when Nelson found it. This is fake news. As of right now, the roster has Gates (1 year), Bo (2 years), Louth (2-3 years), Dorsey (2-3 years), Kenny (3 years), Batchelder (4 years). There are also 4-5 scholarships to work with and a full spring recruiting period for high school kids (where there may be kids flying under the radar due to COVID) and a bountiful transfer portal. The pL is also moving into a down-cycle with Colgate & BU losing virtually everyone, and Bucknell & American needing new coaches before they can make a move. This is significantly better situation that what Nelson inherited in July 2019 where he had no scholarships/time to add to the roster, and an extremely limited number of legit D1 players taking up scholarships on the roster. Making a quick move on a guy like Tom Crean who can keep the remaining roster in tact and then find some nice pieces to bring in this spring would position us for a chance to win the pL next year. Even if we hired Rick Pitino in July 2019, you couldn't have said that was a possibility. It's time to move and have a fresh start, but let's at least try to be a little bit objective here?

Kind of a nitpick, but when people are piling on, I don't think our criticisms should be exaggerated. Green and Grandison were in the portal before Coach Nelson arrived. I also don't think I'd put Copeland on this list for being forced out of the sport by injury. Although Reilly is missing from this list

Going into year four of the Nelson regime, these are the six scholarship guys we are working with? He just had four recruits walk out on him in the span of two weeks. The program is rudderless and in shambles. The next coach has a bigger rebuild job than Nelson ever had.

Actually, seven scholarship players with Austin Lewis.

Nelson walked into a program that finished in last place in the pL lost its best player to graduation (Floyd), and had the next two best players “walk out on it” in the span of a couple weeks (Grandison & Green). The current roster, despite losing several pieces to the portal, brings back significantly more talent from a team that fared better in the pl and exponentially more open scholarship opportunity than what Nelson inherited in July 2019. These are just facts.

Not to nitpik, but I would say AB was at least as good as Green/Grandison.
I don't really care about cupboard comparisons - I just want someone to come in and get things moving in the right direction.

I would be very surprised if Gates comes back next year. And, if you’re Will Batchelder, aren’t you asking to be released from your LOI?

Maybe RW can sneak into KW’s piggy bank and steal some of his new Under Armour Maryland money to sweeten the pot for Crean to come to HC?

I will get lots of playing time to show other schools my potential and then enter the Portal after my Freshman year for a better program.

The fact that the current plan is for him to be here next year implies that he isn't graduating this Spring. How many colleges allow someone to transfer in as a senior and graduate? He has used his one free transfer. He has to sit a year. We're talking about giving him a two year scholarship tp play for one

Would you start Johnson over Green? That's one competition for PG we never saw work itself out. Lowder could back up Luc at shooting guard. I'd start Joe P. and Grandy. Who would be the fifth starter?

All true but he could also just move on with his life. I can't see a decision to move on with your life without a degree. Especially a free one You may be right but he can still get a degree even if he has to pay something for it. Coming back to this crapshow a long way from home and taking a physical beating for several months might not be at all appealing to him. Ideally, we get a new coach and he convinces him to stay.
