When it comes to creepy mascots, Crucis, nobody beats your home town. Though I'm ashamed to admit, I find Gritty's creepiness oddly attractive.

I hope never to have a belly that shakes like Gritty or the Phanatic.
However a purple version of Gritty could change my mind regarding mascots. 🤣

I was always a Youppi fan. Glad the Canadiens pulled him off the unemployment line.

Goal number one for next season and beyond: close the bus station. All the player transitions are hopefully transitional for the program because they represent the negatives of big time BB with none of the positives. HC has to develop solid players and solid teams over four years to succeed from our perch in the PL. A recent article noted that the NCAA will be giving consideration to a proposal (already endorsed by the Big 10 and ACC) that would eliminate the “year in residency” for D1 football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s hockey and baseball transfers - allowing student-athletes immediate eligibility at a new school. Student-athletes would only be allowed one such transfer. The LAC could start to look like the Port Authority terminal!

It's not just about a guy in a foam costume on a sideline. You guys must be smarter than our marketing department (which I think is actually an empty room with two desks and a crumpled up piece of paper in a wire trash can). This is about brand visibility. It's about sales. "HC" isn't "cool." A sword wielding knight in a purple cape is pretty cool.

I have no interest in buying merchandise with the shield. Luckily I am married to someone who knows me well enough to have stockpiled the good stuff when they made the decision to abandon Crusader imagery.

Has the Crusader ship totally sailed?
Once Fr. B either retires or is pushed out, perhaps the new president could restore it. I'm sure the development office would be thrilled if that were to happen.

Pretty sure I previously posted that the chairman of the BoT had personally indicated to me that the entire Board was not in support of the loss of the Crusader and the matter could be brought back up in some indeterminate future. He assured me the name "Crusader" would not be jettisoned as long as he was chairman. I don't discount that he might have simply been trying to placate me.

If you were interviewing him after an auto accident would you have believed him?😋

Holy Cross is still the Crusaders. Logos change periodically. We had the profile of the knight on horse. Then it was a head on shot with just the upper part of the knight. Now it's a shield with HC. In this day and age, marketing people love to tinker with this sort of thing. Marketing people might even decide that some annoying styrofoam character running around at games makes families with little kids more likely to show up. In my opinion as long as we are still Crusader, there is a chance some sort of knight imagery will return

This was the President of the College and the BOT making a big public pronouncement about the knight imagery being inconsistent with our values as an institution but the name being okay because there are nice Crusaders too and we’re nice Crusaders.

Holy Cross is still the Crusaders. 50% the Crusaders, IMO. UNC are the Tarheels. Their logo is an interlocking NC Indiana are the Hoosiers. Their logo is an interlocking IU Yes, I cherrypicked examples of nicknames that are hard to depict in a logo, I was running a little late Monday night and was just pulling into the parking lot as WEEI went on the air. Dick Lutz used the work "Crusader" twice in his first sentence. Even without the imagery, in my opinion, we are still very much Crusaders. To make you feel better, I will make an effort on the 29th to yell "Crusaders" or the abbreviated "Saders " more during the game

"Crossmen" "Crosswomen" "The Cross"
The essence of HC is not some military figure from the past. It is THE CROSS. That's why my suggestion is so much more appropriate. The BoT's decision to keep "Crusaders" because we are the good Crusaders is ridiculous. A classic example of a solution in search of a justification.

I know. I suppose a lot comes down to whether the PTB sincerely believe there is something wrong with the Crusader, and are easing us into the total elimination, or if TPB were placating a small but very vocal minority by going with more neutral imagery.

UNC are the Tarheels. Their logo is an interlocking NC The Tarheels have a ram, whatever the hell his name in, that are on quite a few things. UNC also doesn't need as much brand help as HC does. Jordan made sure his logo was on their uniforms and not just the Nike swoosh. It's an association with cool that we won't ever touch.

Well this looks like an example that supports my frequently stated position that no matter what you put out there, there is someone who will find a way to be offended by it

It won't be long before the only mascots are fruits and vegetables. apparently not even fruits and vegetables are safe spaces anymore. an intellectual lightweight of some notoriety recently proclaimed cauliflower to be racist. "Virtue signaling" has become a competition among a certain set of people. Whatever issue or item arises, such as the vegetable you cite, there is a rush to see who can be the first to explain why it is racist, bigoted, homophobic, elitist, sexist, etc. Here's an example. The penny is a burden on our society as it costs more than one cent to mint one and, unlike when the corner grocer had a penny candy jar when I was a child, you can no longer buy anything with a penny. Without a penny, retailers would just round up or down to the nearest nickel for transactions. I recall a movement several years ago to get rid of the penny and it was opposed by a group who stated that rounding up or down would have a negative effect on lower economic groups. Insanity. Logic would tell you that unless that group had a tremendous number of 3 cent or 8 cent or 13 cent transactions, rounding up and rounding down would cancel out over the ,long run. I understand that the penny is going away in 2022--wait to see the controversy arise again.
