Another highlight reel, this one ten minutes long. Don't believe it's been posted elsewhere - if so, my bad.

Based on the highlights, he doesn't look like he'll be a volume scorer, but rather a guy that cleans up the boards, scores efficiently, and restores a little strength to the front line. Quite frankly, I'm excited that the other bigs will have a chance to compete with Gerrale on a daily basis. Not a single big could simulate his game in a practice this past season. Looking forward to the new front line that Nelson is building. It's gonna make a difference.

Thanks, WG Not previously posted many things to like, esp when playing comp like Butler, SMU and Mississippi State 1- using his substantial body, not his hands, to establish position in low 2- finishing with either hand 3- second effort on the offensive glass 4- dribble left, finish left 5- pretty quick release on his mid range J 6- fade away J 7- step back J 8- getting lower than his defender to receive a low post pass 9 cutting to the hoop without the ball, especially when his defender turns away from him to see the ball

Having a real “big” with bulk is a very nice change.

The only thing that makes me a little nervous about Gates after watching some of his high school games and some UNO is that he is regularly well behind the play at both ends and seems inconsistent in his effort going to the glass. Maybe that’s to be expected for a guy his size but seems like he could benefit from additional conditioning work in his off year. That said, he does appear to be in much better shape now than he was in high school so he’s apparently working at it. Some other guys like Humphrey and Townsel are reported to work very hard at both ends though I haven’t seen as much of them. We know Butler will set a good example in this regard.

looking at some of Gates' stats vs 2 of the stronger teams on his sched vs SMU, in 36 mins, he had 12 and 9, with 8-11 FT, and 4 assists vs Butler in 28 mins he had 7 and 7, 3-6 FG, 2 assists

I see in the Globe that James Karnik, who transferred from Lehigh to BC, just got his waiver to play. I'd love to see Gates in uniform this year.

Potentially great news indeed--he will be a great front court addition

So maybe will get Gerrale, but not Louth.

Haven’t followed all of the rules but I’d rather Gates sit out this year if playing would cost him a season at the back end. Not sure what this season will look like but we already know about the abridged schedule and even those could be cancelled at any moment.

If Louth cannot play more than 6 games, our front court would be much weaker without Gerrale. If Gerrale knows he could get an additional year, he could play this year and two more.

I can only see "possible good news." I see there is a tweet involved here as I create a reply to the message. Can someone please tell me what the tweet is. (I have been having this problem for the last 2-3 weeks).

The hoops oversight committee recommended that the NCAA allow all transfers be able to play this season. Will be proposed to D1 council by Dec 16

I see it as good news if Gates will still have two years of eligibility after this year, as the current team could certainly use another experienced post player. If he will only have one year left after this year I would rather have him sit out this abbreviated season and join a more experienced sophomore class next year for two full seasons.

I have no clue regarding his academic standing at HC. If all his credits transferred, will he finish his degree in 2 years? if so, how would he play in a 3rd season?

He, as most junior(left after 2 years) transfers before this recent time, would have to sit one, then play two. I think that was the original plan.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd burn a year of his eligibility on the current season.

If all transfers can play this year and he stays for the three years planned, he should be able to play for those three years if the PL agrees to the NCAA waiver for all players on this season’s rosters to play an additional year.

That is one huge if, imho. I wouldn't wager anything on the PL agreeing to the NCAA waiver relating to eligibility.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd burn a year of his eligibility on the current season. There is no eligibility burn this year. The entire season doesn’t count against anyone’s eligibility.
