I've now gone from sad about the lack broadcasts for the play-offs to annoyed. I will not be watching the Sox tomorrow. Only on MLB network tomorrow and I don't have it For NFL network or even popular ESPN, the local markets broadcast the game. Not so for baseball. If you don't have a sports package, local fans will not be watching the game.  Post season is the time you bring in casual fans. Casual fans don't have MLB network Not sure it this info helps Free trial?

Red Sox win in the 13th. Rays used nine pitchers, they will be gassed for game four.

The Red Sox used 7 pitchers, some too long to throw tomorrow

Somehow I get the feeling that hchoops is not a Sox fan. And, sader1970, if I spent 5+ hours in a sports bar last night, I would be in no shape to be typing this AM.

Announcer says ground rule double rule (off of a player) will definitely be changed next year. But to what? How else could that 13th inning play be ruled?

Empty seats at Fenway today !! Yeah, it appeared that the higher priced club sections down the third base lines had a fair number of empty seats. I think those were going for over $200 on the Sox site. There are some seats available tonight in the $90 range in the grandstands.

Typical knee-jerk "they should change the rule" reaction. Have never seen the play happen before like it happened; perhaps something should be (if it isn't) in the rule that awards an extra base if the fielder deliberately caused the ball to go out (Renfroe did not do that; in fact, he tried to reach over and grab the ball before it went over).
Another odd play happened last night. White Sox had a runner on third with 0 or 1 out. Grounder to first. Throw home hit the batter/runner going to first base, ball rolled to backstop, runner safe at home. The guy was considerably inside the base line and more or less let the ball hit him (let's just say he could have avoided contact w/the ball).
Ruling- no penalty. Now, had the ball been a roller in front of home plate and the throw to first had hit the batter/runner, he would have been out because he was not in the runner's lane. But the runner's lane doesn't apply to a throw to another base.

Announcer says ground rule double rule (off of a player) will definitely be changed next year. But to what? How else could that 13th inning play be ruled? As in other instances, umpireâs discretion. They could change the rule, but would life be better if they did? Imagine if the rule is that the umpire shall determine how many bases each player would likely have achieved if the ball was not accidentally knocked into the stands. Now, everyone will have something to argue about--in particular about whether a runner would have scored from first on a hit that would likely have been a double. Would he have kept going home from third? Would the base coach have sent him? Does the umpire need to know the relative strengths of the arm of the outfielder and the relay man and whether the runner is slow? Does it matter how many outs there were and/or the score of the game? I think a boring rule like the current one probably works better.

The rule is the umpire's discretion if there was intent on the part of the fielder
On an MLB level, the rule is fine as is. Does anyone remember this happening before? Non issue. Lots of times these rules actually come into play more with little league or other little kids. Weird things just happen way more frequently with little kids
There are dozens of times every year in MLB where a ball bounces in to the stands and a runner who would have easily scored from first has to stay on third. It's just the way the ball bounces and is part of the game

With incredible 107 and 106 win seasons, I'm glad that Giants/Dodgers is going the full 5 games

Both teams and managers have proven their are the cream of the crop. Speaking of mediocrity, when will the Yanks can their incompetent manager and realize they have basically become the Cubs. Decently competitive, a compelling brand with unparalleled history, but lacking the front office and managerial wherewithal to compete with best of the MLB. The pinstripes scare no one. Fenway on the other hand....

Referring everyone back to the second post in this thread. Regarding the sign stealing imbroglio, you have to admit that banging on a trash can is innovative.

RedSox with another walk off win. Now a matchup between cheater players and a cheater coach. That will get some reactions. DAN SHAUGHNESSY In Red Sox-Astros matchup, itâs impossible to ignore both teamsâ scandalous recent history It wonât be a party starter at Fox Sports, Fenway Park, or Minute Maid Park, but itâs impossible to avoid the years-old cheating narrative in this 2021 American League Championship Series. Astros vs. Red Sox features those lyinâ, cheatinâ Despicable Me(s) from Houston â Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Alex Bregman & Co. â against the upstart Bostons, who are managed by Alex Cora, one of the few culprits of the 2017 Trash Can âStros who was punished for his role in the scheme. Itâs as if the Spygate Patriots faced the Deflategate Patriots in some computer-programmed, analytic-driven, virtual Super Bowl. Itâs where âBang the Drum Slowlyâ meets âRoundersâ at the intersection of âMollyâs Gameâ and âEight Men Out.â
