This is just so interesting. A number of posters once said that Chesney was not the right guy to coach Holy Cross because he came from a lower division and would not be able to recruit (1) D-1 players and (2) at a "high academic" institution. Now we are hearing, from at least one poster (and I don't know where he stood on Chesney pre-HC) that Chesney may be able to recruit for other positions but is not good at recruiting quarterbacks. It just defies logic to me. Recruiting is based on salesmanship--the coach's ability to sell the recruit on the institution, the athletic program, and on the coach and his staff. I'll offer an analogy, comparing football recruiting to selling cars: Chesney is the top salesman at the car dealership but he's just not good at selling convertibles. He's great with SUV's and pickup trucks, and sedans, but his record with convertibles in the last three years is sub-optimal. Until he starts selling more convertibles I don't care how many other cars he sells, he's not a good salesman. What are the margins on convertibles vs the other models?

And how would you classify Hunter Helms, who verballed, and then became a PWO at Clemson? Looking at the 2020-21 Clemson roster, Helms is now classified as a redshirt freshman, and it would seem he now has a scollie.
Helms would be a junior this year at HC.
I happen to think the OC is a big factor when it comes to recruiting QBs, and I am pleased that the OC during BC's initial years is now elsewhere. And I believe Considine was a graduating senior at HC when he transferred.

Chesney has won without a franchise QB. The presumed football coaching G.O.A.T., Bill Belichick hasn't won without his Franchise QB. Three QBs who weren't destined to be the next Chuckin' Charlie Maloy have moved on without controversy and we have a new batch for Coach Chesney and staff to develop. I suspect that Coach has gotten the most out of the QB position that could be had and am looking forward to what the staff can do with hopefully better raw talent. — Key caveat: he has won IN THE PL without a QB. It’s time to start winning in OOC games against the next level of opponents and start doing more than being the last seed in the NCAA Tournament with a blow out first round game. I’ve gotta agree. PL is poor FCS football. Our sights are MUCH higher. We need a QB along the lines of a top CAA QB to get us there. Of course it is a very difficult challenge for us to land one - especially since one pipeline the CAA regularly taps (the schollie FBS QB kid buried on the depth chart) is apparently closed to us.

Of course, HC has had a quarterback every year. One of them was chosen second team all-league and one was PL rookie of the year. You are right, long-suffering, when you say that Cheney has not had a "franchise" quarterback. That is very different than saying HC has not had a quarterback (and, IMHO, it is far less insulting to the HC players who were our quarterbacks - and a tribute to the coaches who took two of them with, according to posts here, little talent and made them into all-stars). It seems that Coach Cheney has developed teams that do not rise or fall on one position alone, but who play as a team. That is different from many traditional models, but is it necessarily a problem? I would like to see a QB who is. a threat both passing and running, but if we win, that is still the goal, isn't it? Right now HC is blessed with good coaches and a lot of real talent. Why not just take a breath and enjoy?

Shoot, when the first game of 2020 (in 2021) finally happened, within 30 minutes there were demands that Deganhardt be benched and the offensive coordinator, who wasn't even present, be fired. I'm sure many cheered the decision to put the third guy in the SDSU game even though he got to start his first collegiate drive within his own 1 yard line.

Anyway - I'm starting to see the "Official Offer" tweets start to come out. Nassir Hill posted his yesterday. HC was down to the final two with Buffalo - then he posted offers from Elon and Campbell after that.
Would be a solid get for HC if they can land him. Onward and upward.

Does just “offer” imply walk on possibility/ definite and “Official Offer” mean full scholarship ?

I don't think official offer equates to a full scholarship in FCS, where there are many rostered players with partials.

Yes I would agree with Pakachoag Phreek. I would think an "Official Offer" letter would not be needed to be sent to a kid who's getting no scholarship money, but honestly not sure.

I believe this is just a function of the NCAA calendar and only being able to “officially” offer recruits after August 1st of their Senior year in high school.

Probably less than on an SUV or pick up truck. Perhaps Chesney finds bargains where they can be found and highly rated QBs don't go on sale often. It might be hard to get one with the currency you have to spend, a full ride to HC in the PL, and the dynamism and team spirit HC football can now offer is less of an attraction when highly rated QBs are getting the moon and the stars thrown at them. HC definitely will win with a team approach not a one man show.

Offer # 44 --
DB NAHAMANI HARRIS, 6-2, 185.
It appears he is from San Antonio, TX, but is doing a post-grad year at St. Thomas More in CT.
Other offers include Fordham, Lehigh, Bucknell, Liberty, UTSA, and several others. (Looks like he committed to UTSA last year but then de-committed and opted for a post-grad year.

I wonder if they'll make any updates to the ht/wt? Most of the players haven't had their weights updated since their NLI signing day.

Maybe there's an official weigh-in (& "measure-in") on the first or last day of camp?

The article is very complimentary to HC. I would think Penn would be the toughest competition for Holy Cross among the named schools. Perhaps Coach Chesney being a decisive person who is able to make a clear decision helped us win a recruiting battle against an Ivy League School.

It is unclear from the article whether he had any official offers from the schools mentioned The last line also says he is verbally committed to HC. It doesn't say he has been academically accepted at HC, never mind Penn. How does that work, does Admissions give the coaching staff a heads up about a recruit before a verbal commitment is accepted? Or is a verbal commitment not worth the paper it isn't written on?

1- Yes 2- Not necessarily. Verbal is not binding but most players abide by it with a written commit.

Very recently, there was a hoops recruit who said he was offered, and had a SAT <1000. Admissions would never have cleared him. The tweet was deleted almost as quickly as it was tweeted.
Ivy League schools will offer, contingent on a recruit being cleared by admissions. Past practice was for the school to send the recruit a likely [to be admitted] letter. Don't know if that practice continues.
