With this loss, I hope that people can see that the Patriot League stinks. We will never be able to recruit the players that we need to be a good team every year. It will be interesting to see how the basketball program will be once the season starts.

Just back from Fitton, and finished some grub. Here’s my take - ahead of reading everyone else’s comments:
The bad - Worst Chesney-led loss of his HC career. Hands down.
The good - The Chesney departure train is likely off the rails for the for the foreseeable future.
The good - The video board is terrific.
The bad - We could certainly have used a lot more replays - especially on questionable and reviewed calls.
The turning-point - One of the most elementary things in football is, when a punted ball is merely bouncing to a stop, GET THE HELL AWAY FROM IT!
Merrimack - That QB is talented. I haven’t seen his numbers, but I believe most of his incompletions were the fault of his receivers.
The big question - Should I rethink my planned trek to New Haven next weekend?

What’s Duff thinking?? Never remembered his teams stinking up the place like this. Hard to remember Duffner losses. There were only five.

It will be interesting to see how the basketball program will be once the season starts. The Patriot League did not play Merrimack today, only Holy Cross did and, yes, they came out flat and had one of their worst games in some time. There were too many mental errors for experienced players. HC is already able to recruit the players we need to have a good team every year. Whether or not we get the ones we want most is up to the coaches and not the league (unless you need a scapegoat). I am interested to see how Coach Chesney and his staff handle this loss and prepare the team for their next game at Yale. I am glad you are willing to wait for the season to actually start before judging this year's basketball team. I hope they build on their current two game win streak and that they continue to develop as they we doing throughout the second half of last (shortened) season. But what does that have to do with today's football game?

You guys complain too much. My Bison went off +30 against Villanova. After the 1st quarter, we're only down 28. If we play them even the rest of the way, we cover. 45-0 at the half. Nova’s good about calling off the dogs so it should narrow a bit.

HC could not have landed the Merrimack QB. We don't have graduate studies and I believe the PL doesn't allow grad students to play anyway.
So, plenty of strengths in the PL and at HC but no school gets every advantage.
It won't be too long before Merrimack fans start blaming the NEC for holding them back.

Defense on field way to long 37 minutes and offense can’t go 1-7 on 3rd down. It’s simple formula and not sure how they evaluate offensive efficiency today but should have put 35 or more on them easily.

Mercer scored as many points today on Alabama than we managed against Merrimack. Let that sink in.

Watching Monmouth vs Fordham, and reviewing our game today, I think those three teams are similar offensively in how they can attack us. Those QB's and line have the ability to move down the field and use their WR's, TE and RBs to split, and shred our defense -short, intermediate, and deep passes with a solid 1AA running game. Yale will probably be similar.
We have answers But my guess is it will come down to execution

A TOTAL AND COMPLETE MELTDOWN! I AM TOTALLY EMBARRASSED How was the tailgate and game day experience, 12? Getting into the premier lot was a complete #@*&$~! show. We were there at 9:55am and didn’t park until 10:30am due to the parking czar who couldn’t line up cars in a row to save his life. I was so happy to see RSIG was fired and a new security staff was put into place that absolutely left us alone for the duration of the tailgate, so I can’t complain. It was nice not to be “evacuated” from the baseball field. Too bad the game went they way that it did. If they can clean up the entry and parking lines, it’ll be perfect.

What makes this loss all the more disappointing is that it blunts momentum from the good feelings from last week's win, which was probably the program's most notable of this century (beating an FBS team on [sort of] national TV). Ranked in the top 25, with more attention and more excitement from the first true home crowd in 2 years and they see ... that?
Unquestionably, Merrimack is a much better team than posters suggested. The question is: Did HC come out flat, or are they really not that good (meaning, the FBS victory was a fluke)?
Time will tell. But I believe in Chesney. I think he'll have the team ready to go for next week. Ultimately, the Merrimack game won't matter much - it's all about the PL schedule. But they have to learn not to take any team for granted. If Chesney ever thinks the team is getting too big for their britches this season, he should show them this tape. Be humble. Keep working.

I saw Chesney's team come out flat against Bentley after clinching the conference title the week before....

Please hire Gordie Lockbaum as AD and combine with Nick Smith to run the athletic department.
Get someone to run the new scoreboard, no replays when needed for official reviews. Sound system needs to improve and how about giving other scores. Could we please go back to the old ticket system, instead of carrying paper copies - we would save a number of trees....
Merrimack lines controlled both sides of the ball today, complete domination. Excellent defensive and offensive coaching by their staff......could not understand not passing to the tight end by HC with so many defenders up close to the line of scrimmage. Usually 1 safety defender 10 yards off line and all other defenders no more than 4 yards off line. HC could not adjust.
Sluka tried to run too many times today and needs to not throw the football as hard as he does, so the receiver can catch it. Siderman threw a pretty good football today given a chance with 2 minutes left.
Looking forward to marked improvement vs. Yale next Saturday.

Very disappointing game; I thought Merrimack was playing into our hands when they started running the ball to play conservative......and then we couldn't stop the run! However.......I knew absolutely nothing about Merrimack outside of what I read on the board this week, and I suspect many of my fellow posters were in the same boat. I'll be interested in seeing how the rest of their season goes. I think it took them about 27 minutes of game time to figure out how to use the replay function of the scoreboard - couldn't they have had a dress rehearsal on Friday with some students playing a little touch football on the field or something? With CBC playing Siderman early in the UCONN game, I am a little puzzled why he didn't give him a shot a lot earlier in this game. Have to give that QB a ton of credit; he made some great throws while knowing he was going to get lit up (by the way, agree with dharry about needing to bring LBs to get a good rush is a problem). If UCONN had this kid they might actually be able to win a game this year. In the end, while it stunk to have this outcome after such a long absence of fans at Fitton, I think it's a little premature to go into panic mode. This game reminded me a lot of the Williams basketball game in the 03-04 season - we were all so fixated on "D-3" that we had a hard time admitting that Williams was absolutely the better team that night.....and yet, the program did not die (although some might disagree lol), and I don't think Ralph Willard's reputation was tarnished that much. Another test of character coming up.

And by the way, was it me or was the sound system less than adequate? We could not hear. And , isn’t point of the video board to show the actual replay? Thank you for reading.
