Hi guys - rarely posting, but regularly reading.
So question: HC was +2.5 v UConn and won by 10. HC was -27.5 v Merrimack and lost by 14.
Would that make UConn +54 vs Merrimack?

And by the way, was it me or was the sound system less than adequate? We could not hear. And , isn’t point of the video board to show the actual replay? Thank you for reading. I agree '80. To me, the PA's voice should be BOOMING. It was more like background noise, I thought. Not good when you don't have a paper program at the ready (by the way, to me this is really inconsiderate for visiting fans - are HC fans going to have to find the Yale website on their phones next week to get a bleeping program? I'll risk the wrath of my friend Crucis and say that not ALL change is either good or necessary). Another thing I didn't care for: much easier now (at least fewer steps required) to grab a beer than to get some food. They have a few food stands inside the gates to the baseball field; not really traditional grub though. Under the home stands, there were at at least 3-4 beer/wine stands - the food was relegated to the road right outside the fence. I was told you could walk out there through one of the gates, but after you needed to walk down back to the main entrance. All I wanted was a hot dog/pretzel/bottle of water. I ended up having to walk down to the far (endzone) end of the visitors side to find a hot dog. Maybe I missed something.

Sheesh.

As a friend of mine often says when things are going wrong and people are getting emotional, “I got two words for you: ‘Re Lax’ .”
I watched the entire game and have read all the comments. Everyone please calm down.
Was it a bittterly disappointing performance? Absolutely.
Does this team stink and its coach clueless? Absolutely NOT.
Can we all give this team a little verbal support? I think we will discover over the next few weeks that Merrimack is very talented and caught us on an off day.
Let’s turn the page.
My bet is that HC will bounce back next week and have a very competitive game with Yale and maybe even squeak out a win. Let’s see what happens. OK?
I think we have an outstanding coach in Chesney and he will find a way to get the kids UP for the next game and the rest of the season.
It was a bummer yesterday but it’s only Sept 12th. This team is going to give us all a lot of entertaining football before it’s all over.
So please. Just for now: “Re Lax”.

For the most part I agree I think we were unprepared as a team and staff for the QB and his ability to break down our defense. Our LBs are very good but when chasing WR's across and down the field, their ability to defend against the run or get to the QB is impacted. Their RBs feet and legs were in constant motion, like pistons, they had decent balance and frequently stayed upright long enough for their line to get an addition push for those extra yards, which madeit 2nd and 4/5, 3rd and 1/2. Our RB coach should use the film as a teaching moment on power running. BTW as I recałl We were in 2nd and 8, 3rd and 6/7??? Plenty of hard work ahead, but if it was easy there would be a ton of 11/12-0 teams. BTW Another nice win for FCS yesterday as Jacksonville St beat FSU, the same FSU team that lost in OT to Notre Dame

Tough ending for the FSU defensive backfield letting up a long TD as time expired. Maybe Lang will get some more run going forward.

Attendance 8211. Not bad for a pandemic with the game available on ESPN+. If the HC football fan universe has the same percentage of unvaccinated as the general population, it equates to closer to 12K if the not fully vaccinated plus two weeks weren't banned.

It used to be ridiculously loud a few years ago. What happened? Or was it the person doing the announcing that made it inaudible? Maybe a new guy? 2. Programs. Perhaps a germophobic move of some kind? Given someone needs a phone, perhaps put something attached to the ticket? Not that I want to spend a ballgame looking at my phone. 3. Replays. I think they are at the mercy of the telecast. I bet if the UConn game was home and CBSSN telecast it, the replays would have been more plentiful.

I ended up having to walk down to the far (endzone) end of the visitors side to find a hot dog. Maybe I missed something. Unfortunately, I was not physically present at Fitton yesterday, so I have to rely upon reports from friends who were on site. For many years, concessions at Fitton and Hart for the game was handled by Kimball Dining, several years ago, concessions were outsourced to vendors, whose quality and variety have been questionable at times. Wonder if the Fan Experience Representatives who often post on Crossports will provide feedback on Monday morning directly to the committees chairperson. It is necessary to correct this issue. However, in fairness, we are possibly seeing the results of health department restrictions regarding food handling as well labor shortage to handle the planned number of on site stations for food handling. Fitton needs a major overhaul regarding fixed concession stands as well as bathrooms. Regarding the video board and sound quality, before we place the blame entirely on HC Athletics, maybe some of the issues are a result of recent problems that Daktronics has had with their supply chain, as well they being able to provide the on site technical support and software needed to resolve the issues that came to light yesterday. I was pleased to see from my limited view at home, that in game statistics regarding each teams passing, rushing and total yards as well as Time of Possession was available. Let’s see what changes are made for game 2. Hope the Staff from Brookings, can make the trip east to correct the problems, as well as deliver and install the video boards for the Hart. I have no answer regarding programs not being available. I use to print the rosters at home before the game, but I gave that up as a waste of paper and ink, and have been relying on my electronic devices to get up to date roster and statistical data during the game. I am sure we all have more than several copies of past programs, sitting in a closet that need to now be recycled. As new media distribution channels become common place, think how tickets are now provided through PDF’s, “Game Day” programs in print may become a relic of the 20th century. Change is inevitable, for the good, the bad and the ugly. In many cases the “necessary” is well overdue. Inertia however is not acceptable for a viable entity.

I got the feeling the operator was trying to give us replays for much of the first half, but for whatever reason was unsuccessful. I say that because at least a few times you would see the word "replay" appear on the board, only to get the rotating screensaver type images (or whatever they are). I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall wherever the operator sits.

For the most part (ticketing, parking, not much hassling tailgating, beer lines etc) things went fairly smoothly for the group I went with yesterday. I ate at the tailgate so I'm not sure how well that went with the foodtrucks etc.
We got there relatively late so we stayed on Freshmen...not sure what the atmosphere was on the baseball field....seemed like a fair amount of people were still on the field during the first half. We didn't venture ovah there at half, so I'm not sure how the "no re-entry" played out.
The PA was awful...sat in Section 6 and could barely hear....it was MUCH better in the 70s and 80s when you could hear announcements, out of town scores etc very clearly.
No game programs is an issue....maybe (and probably) it's a function of my age....but I'm used to looking at rosters, info etc in a physical form, not on my phone.
Videoboard was nice but as others noted, very underutilized.
I expected a bunch of hiccups with all the new protocols etc but for the most part the game experience went fairly smoothly I thought. It was the play on the actual field that was the biggest disappointment.

Two comments of note: Why are there only speakers in one spot in the stadium? My answer was, “Good question. There used to be more.” At his freshman daughter’s Mass of the Holy Spirit (held on the field) he couldn’t believe that the grass wasn’t artificial turf. He made the same observation yesterday from the stands.

Affirmative action hires don’t usually go too well. 4-3 I can not let this statement stand, and not challenge your perspective for your opinion on hiring qualifications. Have you read ADMB, curriculum vitae? A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, from Northeastern, A Masters in Sports Management from West Virginia University, and an MBA from URI. A three time Academic All American and a three time all conference selection. Prior to HC, he was the senior financial and human resource officer at BC, an ACC, Power 5 institution, a senior administrator at PC, a Big East Institution, in charge of their athletics financial management, and he was an Associate Athletic Director for Finance at Brown University, an Ivy League Institution. I have seen some bizarre comments over the years on Crossports, but your comment has to be one of the more outrageous and biased comments I have read. Both ADNP, with his career at Pac12, Big 10 and Patriot League schools was an excellent hire, so is ADMB who has outstanding qualifications to be an Athletic Director at a D1 school. Your comment provides an insight into the glass ceiling that every person of color faces, no matter how well qualified when they are being interviewed for a leadership position in an organization. Personally, I am ashamed and embarrassed that you are a Holy Cross Alumnus. You have the opportunity to fully explain your comment before I can reconsider my last statement. goholycross.com/staff-directory/marcus-blossom/284 Crucis, I just addressed this head on in the thread “Coaching and culture 2002 v 2021”. I let the admins decide what’s next.

Remember the old sound system from the Hart. The one several of us told FADDR that we could not hear, and his reply was it was because where we were sitting. ☹️ Glad and that was fixed. I would suggest that everyone who had a problem hearing send a note to Steve Pizzi who is in charge of facilities, operations and events. goholycross.com/staff-directory/steve-pizzi/287

Thanks Midwest for the confirmation.
Bigotry should be challenged at every instance that it occurs. The statement made by your former teammate was egregious, particularly in light of the outstanding qualification to be a D1 AD by Marcus Blossom.
Let’s hope that the next HC AD has as strong a D1 ascending pedigree as a professional, in sports management, finance and planning at a series of P5, schools as ADMB and FADNP. Managing a successful D1 Athletic program in the 21st Century requires a different skill set than from years past.

The guy in question seems to only show up on football Saturdays and certainly has an agenda. No sense going into that. Thought it was more a Bob Chesney versus Tom Gilmore and scholarship players versus need based players of his era; not sure how Marcus Blossom figures into that. I made a remark about MB I regret making; truth-be-told, the only thing I'd hesitate about hiring him was how short a time he was the actual boss (here). And it had nothing to do with him getting hired ONLY because of his race.
